    Hi Rick, as we texted, this is a good idea for a video. You selected a memorable card for 400. Not only a legendary player but also a card from one of the sets you’re building. It’s funny the 57 Snider was your first graded card. The 57 Snider was my third. They are the same grade and look similar. Your first ever Mickey Mantle card is the first base Mantle I owned as a kid. That’s funny. I like the look of the Shantz card. It is a shade of blue you don’t see a lot on MLB uniforms. Nice to see that beautiful 57 Robinson again. Was happy to see you acquire that one to complete your set. This video did a great job representing who you are a collector and some of the incredible sets you have put together. To have a 41 PlayBall, 53 Topps and 57 Topps set to go along with your 60s and 70s sets is impressive. We didn’t even get into your vast Dodgers card collection. Have a great Sunday.

      Hi Terry! Snider was your third? haha. How old were you when you got the 65 Mantle? I was surprised my first Mantle was not the 1964 Topps Giants card, but for some reason I never bought it. Love the Brooks! I am really happy I worked on that 1957 set, Its a good looking set. Ashish sold me that card. Was sorry to hear what happened to him this weekend at Dallas. He's a nice guy. Sometimes on purpose I try not to show a Dodger card and after I read your comment, I said wow, I didn't show a Dodger card. Then I forgot I showed the 55 Koufax for the umpteenth time. hahahah. 55 vs 63 Koufax for my favorite. Thank you for watching, Terry!

  • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648

    Hi Rick! Congratulations on completing the 1963 Topps set! It was great to share in part of your journey as you assembled such a beautiful set. It looks amazing in the binder with all those vibrant colors on display. I do wonder whether Topps should have used team logos instead of the second black-and-white image. While I think I prefer the logos, the dual photos are a nice touch and were a first since Topps adopted the standard card format. I hadn't seen the '63 Topps Dean Chance before. I really like the photo choice, and the rookie trophy makes it stand out. The '63 Koufax is my favorite card of his, and it might have been the first one I picked up when I got back into collecting as an adult. Do you find the set extra special since the Dodgers won the World Series that year? I tend to think about what was happening at the time when I look at my sets. You got a great deal on the Clemente to finish the set. I don't think that’s settling at all. By the way, you were close about the store near me-it's Dave and Adam's Card World.

    • @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector
      @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector Před 10 dny

      Thanks Terry! 1963 is a great set. I like the logos on the card, but I also like the photos. I kinda wish the smaller images had been nicer so I know where you're coming from on using the logos instead. IMO 1963 set is the second nicest design of the 60s after 1965. Dean Chance was roomed on the road with Bo Belinksky as they were unseperable in the early days of the Angels. Angel management felt if they were roomed together, they'd one have one "problem room" as opposed to two. hahaha. The guy was a very good pitcher early in his career. Regarding the Dodgers being special, The Koufax is my favorite of his is my favorite for the reasons you mentioned. NL MVP, Cy Young Award, WS MVP, Set the strikeout record for one WS game. Love the Drysdale and Alston cards. Love the WS cards for the 1964 set. The Dodger cards were special back then for me. Dave and Adam's, I looked them up after we spoke and realized I had bookmarked them ages ago. I found the card but took too long thinking about it. At least I know now that I can look them up for other cards. They don't charge sales tax. So happy the 63 set is done. On to 1968! Have a good week, Terry!

    It's an elegant coincidence that the last card in the set, Johnny Temple, is also Johnny's last Topps card as an active major leaguer. I agree with you that often, a raw card of a superstar will sell for more than a mid-grade version, based on hope and speculation, on the part of both buyer and seller. Some Mets fans may also be buying 537 for Al Weis. Stargell played for so long that his nickname morphed from "Kid" to "Pops."

    • @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector
      @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector Před 12 dny

      Yeah, there is always some strange card that no one can ever find. I remember 1973 was a Cardinals player was a guy named Bob Fenwick. He was a major issue to find. Damn, Mets fans are also buying the Rose? That for me was the one major issue of building team sets. The infamous RC of some other guy!

  • @michaelyoung7974
    @michaelyoung7974 Před 12 dny

    I appreciate you noting the series by the actual printing numbers rather than the phantom checklist groupings for which Topps was so notorious in those days. I have an idea why they did that, but that's a subject for a separate discussion. I always associate 1963 with that magnificent Dodgers blanking of the Yanks in the Series. I agree with you about the appeal of combo cards such as Series Foes, and I also feel Topps should have run more with that. Of course, the first one in that vein -- 1958 with Aaron and Mantle -- is a hobby avatar. That Big Three card brings to mind how many teams went with essentially three-man rotations back then. The conventional hobby wisdom used to be that the semi-highs were scarcer than the highs, but I believe that's evened out in later years, with each series being equally scarce.

    • @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector
      @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector Před 12 dny

      I am still extremely confused by the entire series number situation. In 1961, the high numbers are 523-589, but series 7 is 507-589. Shouldn't that make 507-522 high numbers? It's never acknowledged in card land. Combo cards are so cool. Even if they're players I don't know, I still enjoy them. The one thing I failed to mention was that it wasn't really an issue buying the highs or semi high's. It not like 1961, 66 or 67 which are famous for being expensive. Thanks for watching!

    • @michaelyoung7974
      @michaelyoung7974 Před 12 dny

      From 1958-1966, Topps' checklist series rarely aligned with their printing series. (I'm not sure about the later 1960s.) I've only read one really incisive article about this. My own opinion is this: Except for the high series, each series was released with the checklist for the next series also included. But only a portion of the cards in that succeeding series were actually available the way Topps printed the sheets. This most likely whetted the kids' appetites for what was coming up and kept them buying.

The Orioles were really awesome in the early 70s. I am a big fan of the 1970 Topps set, I remember Rico Carty and Tony C. when he played for the Angels! I remember the 71 division race and reading the LA Times that said something like it over the Dodgers finish one game back. I remember when guys would get traded and you wanted to see their cards on their new team. I can relate to what you said about Jim Wynn. In football it was worse, you had to wait a year to get cards of rookies. I remember George Rogers and Marcus Allen having big rookie years and waiting for their cards. Same with Marino and Dickerson. There are numerous others. I love the 74 set design and photography. It is a time capsule to the era. Those of us who grew up with those types of photos I think appreciate them. You’re right about the 72 Carew and Garvey being big cards. Nice you got the 72 Ryan. Hi Rick, lovin those 70's cards. Rico Carty had such a great 1970 season. Most people probably don't even remember him, which is a shame since he had a .299 lifetime average. Heck of a hitter. Catfish, well what can you say about him...definitely one of my all time favorite p;layers and a player I PC. Love that 74 card of his. Have a great weekend my friend.

      Thanks Mike. By the time I saw Rico play, he was now on the Rangers. Would love to have seen him play. Catfish was a great pitcher. The A's had a great rotation back then. Have a great weekend too!

    Hi Rick, Awww...the anatomy of a deal. Well done. It looks and sounds like you had a fun show. Congrats on the '50 Bowman Yogi. That is my favorite card of his, and you got a nice one. You probably saw the Fain on my channel. It is one of my favorite cards, and I profiled it with a Sport Magazine I have with him on the cover. I believe he is the only two-time batting champion to have a career average under .300. Check out how cool the A's uniform looks on the Pete Suder. I didn't realize they had yellow in their uniform back then. The Kozar is a beautiful card too. Nice Garcia rookie as well. He may be one of the 10 best pitchers of the 1950s. It's hard for him to set himself apart when you pitched with Wynn, Lemon, Feller, and then Score. You're making nice progress on your '61 high numbers. That Diamond Stars Ferrell is a beauty. You will get the '63 Clemente when the time is right. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Terry. A deal that took awhile to complete, but I was in no hurry. I was happy with the deal I made. In this case, it was the bigger the better, The Yogi is a great card. I'll never get his RC, but this one is good for me. Yeah, that was you and the Fain. It's a great card. Yeah, the A's had some nice uni's back then. I even like their last uniform in 62 before the green and yellow came around. Looking at a Clemente now, If it's still available in a week, maybe I'll get it. Thanks for watching, Terry!

    Hey Rick! Mike here. It was great talking to you again buddy! You have a great memory. I did in fact get a 1958 Ernie Banks in a PSA6 and a Morgan rookie in an SGC7. I got those from Paul of Starxcards out of Longmont CO. He had some beautiful stuff. Also got from him a 1965 Stargell in a CGC8.5 and a 1965 Frank Robinson in a CGC7 with razor sharp corners. Also got a raw 1965 Aaron that I think will grade a 6 or 7, and a raw 1959 Campy Symbol of Courage card that was basically a throw in on the deal. Could have stayed at his table all day (and just about did!). Paul is a great guy. Also picked up a couple of sweet cards from Bob Krawetz from The Ninth Inning out of St. Paul MN. Got a gorgeous 1963 Mays in an SGC6.5 and a 1965 Mantle Clutch WS Homer card in an SGC7. Likewise Bob had an awesome inventory of stuff. I loved Levan’s cards too but his marked prices seemed a bit steep and wasn’t ready to do the negotiation dance until I saw the rest of the dealers and by the time I made it back there I was out of ammo. Congrats on the Yogi pickup. It’s a great card. Hope to run into you again at the Burbank Show in Anaheim. I might try to make it back to Long Beach again in September too.

      Mike, we completed the deal on Yogi a little after you left. I was happy with it. You SCORED yesterday. You walked out of there with some great stuff. That's right, The Mays and Mantle WS card from Bob. That was deal I couldn't remember. I need to meetup with Paul. He and his wife had a nice table of cards. Look for me in Burbank. I think that's my next local show. I went to Newport today for about a half hour. I don't think you would have cared for it compared to Long Beach. Talk soon!

    The Yogi is beautiful, congrats on adding it into your collection Rick! Love the managers dream with Clemente of course. I keep rooting for you to get your 63 haha. When your videos come out no joke I say I hope he got the Clemente! 😂 really enjoy hearing your approach and recaps at the shows. We are a lot like. I’m scared to spend money just the way I’ve always been when I need to make a bigger purchase it takes me forever to do it as I think through everything, I guess that’s a good thing. Enjoyed as always. Have a good weekend.

      Thanks Mike. That Managers Dream card, I was working on the 1968 set as a kid. Got maybe 75% of the set completed back then but I knew I'd have to buy that Clemente card and it was expensive in my 15 year old brain. Happy I finally got one. I could have had a Clemente video about a week ago but I took too long in making a decision and someone bought it. UGH!! Soon! I am going to tag you when I do buy one. hahaha. Yeah, spending money at shows. Some people easily throw down several hundred dollar bills on the table, walk away and then do the same thing at another table. I buy several big cards a year and when I do, I really sit there and have to think about it. In this case, I had been thinking about the card a few weeks, but I still wanted to wait another week. Then he showed me the 50 bowman cards he had just bought and I think maybe we can make a bigger deal. That really helped. You know card collecting is a crazy world! Thank you so much for watching. I hope you're having a good Saturday and still laughing that your Pirates made my Dodgers look bad this week.

      Haha I can’t believe Jones shut them out the way he did. Buccos have some talent just need more haha! Glad the bigger deal worked out. I’m saving a little by little each money putting away for a Clemente rookie. I may be sick to my stomach when I part with that kinda money but will also be floating on cloud 9. It’s always a catch 22.

  • @thedrewavintagelegacy6455

    Love it. Patience is key. Years ago I was way too impatient and ended up spending too much for cards. I literally waited two years looking for the 55 Jackie Robinson that fit all my criteria.

      Drew, I was thinking of your comment from my last video "any day at a card show is a good day" and I totally agree. I didn't feel like buying a lot of cards so I just sat at Levon's table for a couple of hours and eventually we were able to create a deal. Was fun! That Jackie of yours is SWEET!
