    Hey Rick! Some fantastic memories that you had of Bill Walton. I get the whole point of FOMO and cards shows. Especially when I see others that attended and all the things they picked up. Enjoy hearing your recaps of the shows. Enjoyed the showcase of some randoms and the stories behind them. Can’t believe you got the killebrew for 10 lol. Have a good week Rick!

      Yeah, I was a big Bill Walton fan. I think we could all learn from him. I shouldn't have FOMO but I do. Need to fix that! I got lucky on the Killebrew. hahahaha, Thanks for watching!

    Addendum: I was also at the game in Chicago when Frank Thomas' number was retired. The Big Hurt is quite a good speaker. So I've been all over the place, and you really got the wheels of my memory humming with this video.

      I would like to have seen Frank Thomas play everyday. He was a great player. I interned for the Angels in college and we used to wonder who would win if Thomas and Juan Gonzalez faced off. These were the things young adults discussed during a game. hahaha! I appreciate you watching!

    Good to hear you honor Bill Walton, Rick. I was a freshman at UCLA when Bill was a senior. I was in my dorm room on that fateful Saturday when ND ended the Bruins' 88 game winning streak. I saw Bill many times on campus riding his bike (talk about a high seat post to fit his 6'11" frame). John Wooden was such a positive influence on Bill and all the players (and students too). Pretty cool times in Westwood.

      Hi Rob: How cool that was that you saw Bill on his bike at school. It sounds like he never went ANYWHERE without his bike! I think John Wooden was the only man who could keep Bill in line (Same with Kareem). They both seemed to adore the man.
      We need a UCLA video from you. Would love to see it!

    Because of your video, I think I’m going to swing by the Newport Beach show next Saturday. I’ve been a Dodgers fan since 1965. I enjoy your videos. Nice cards.

    I went to the PS show last year and there were only a few pokemon tables. This year, it blew up. I remember hearing from attendees last year that there wasn't enough variety, this year killed that outlook. I found a vintage vendor there from Hemet by the name of Bob who worked out some great deals with me. I live in the area, next time the show comes around, I'll meet up with you!

    Oh man, I was so bummed out when I heard about Bill's passing. Such a great player. I recently saw a 4 part documentary on him on ESPN where he basically blamed Coach Wooden for that loss to Notre Dame...seems Greg Lee was in Wooden's dog house and didn't play much. As for Palm Springs...I just can't get myself to drive all that way for a couple of cards. If it was a show the size of the Burbank show, then maybe. Still looked like fun. Have a great week my friend.

      Mike, I saw that documentary once and I need to see it again. By 1974 there definitely were issues at UCLA and I think it was because Greg Lee was getting high? I could be wrong there.
      I used to say if I ever met him, I'd tell him how traumatic that loss in 1974 was. I didn't know until his passing that he was still upset they lost that game and the two games against Oregon (the infamous Lost Weekend). It was quite an era back then. Bill just made me laugh in his later years and he loved so much good music and that will be my memory of him.
      Yeah, I don't think I'll be driving to Palm Springs for that. I wish San Diego had a show like Burbank! Thanks for watching!

    Hi Rick, I also cried when UCLA lost that game! In the early 70s UCLA basketball and USC football were both so huge!
    Love the pickups, a Killebrew and a Mathews for $20…yes please!
    Love that 55 Kaline!

      I kept waiting for the officials to blow the whistle and say let's do this over again and then UCLA would win. I think I had been watching way too much of the Roller Derby back then and it was influencing me. hahahaha.
      Got very lucky on the Matthews and Killebrew. Thanks for watching!

    I was at the game when Notre Dame beat UCLA 87-82. It was complete pandemonium. I was one of the guys carrying Austin Carr on our shoulders. Those were the days long before cell phones or the internet, so the long-distance phone lines were choked; you couldn't get a line out for a couple hours.

      @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector  Před měsícem

      You're an Irish alum? I think that game was the first streak Notre Dame broke. I think UCLA had Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe. I bet that was pandemonium. Notre Dame had UCLA's number back then. What a memory for you!

      @michaelyoung7974 Před měsícem

      Yeah, I went to ND. Those were very different days. We always had St. Mary's across the highway, but then Notre Dame began admitting women directly, and that was a game-changer. The first Mexican-American girl I ever dated went to ND.

    I need to upgrade that collins. Mine is wrinkled. Did you know walton was sick? He was a fantastic story teller of ucla and coach wooden. Looks like some nice vintage at the show. You should come to the omaha show in July.

      Eric, do you have the 33 Collins? I did not know Walton was sick and its sounds like a lot of people (including Kareem) didn't know. Loved listening to him. He was crazy. Tell me more about this show in Omaha?

      @@the_card_closet how is the vintage in Omaha? Here is my email: rickac99@yahoo.com

    Hi Rick!
    As we texted, I enjoyed hearing your recollections of Bill Walton. Yeah, it must have been weird seeing UCLA lose, considering all you knew from them was winning. It’s kind of like the night Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson. I remember my dad switching back and forth between the fight and the NBA Slam Dunk Competition. It was surreal seeing Tyson on the ground reaching for his mouthpiece. Walton has a "what if" quality about him as an NBA player, having missed several seasons due to injuries. I have a lot of respect for how he reinvented himself as a 6th man with the Celtics. Maybe the best big man passer of all time.
    Nice mix of cards at the end. I enjoyed hearing the stories behind each of them. That is what it's all about. What moved you to add the card, and how does it fit within your collection? Everything doesn't have to be carefully planned, but what drew you to the card? I like Ernie Banks's entire run. Some don’t like the '61 and '65 cards, but I think they are both nice looking. I especially like the profile on the '65. My favorite is either his '59 or '67. I just love the '67 design, and there you have Mr. Cub with that beaming smile. The '89 Upper Deck captures a moment that you can’t forget where you were when it happened. I was in my room watching it on my black and white TV. I was rooting for the A's and was devastated.
    Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Terry:
      I remember when Tyson fell. It was odd. I used to say if I had met Bill Walton, I was going to tell him how traumatized that loss made me. Little did I realize when I saw his ESPN documentary that he still had major issues with that game. I think UCLA didn't score for like the last four minutes. Just a crazy game,
      There is a side of me that wonders if I have a story for every card I've bought? I doubt it, but I still wonder. hahaha.
      I am a HUGE fan of the 1965 card and I hear a lot of people talk trash about that card. I love the 67 card and design. Don't get me excited or I'll start building a 1967 set!!
      Thanks for watching, I look forward to your next video.

    Rick, I saw you at the show and I meant to say hi but I was in the middle of negotiating. I remember you mentioning that you're collecting the '68 Topps game set. Are you missing Claude Osteen by chance?

      Bummer I missed you! Next show hopefully. I have the Osteen. I need some of the bigger names like Ryan, Bench, Mantle and five others. Almost there.
