What a great sports card haul and update! It's always fun to see the recent pickups and hear about what's been going on in the sports world. Those 1963 Topps cards are looking better and better each year - such classic designs. Sounds like you got some real steals on those All Star Cards auctions too with the Matthews, Ford and Mantle/Richardson/Maris card. Filling sets is so satisfying and it's great to see the Dodgers team set progressing. Thanks for the info on where you get the dividers too - always curious about collection organization techniques.
It was also interesting to get your perspective on the current MLB winter meetings and the chasing of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshi Yamamoto. Free agency is always such an exciting time and it will be fascinating to see where those big names land. The Rams playoff push is looking promising too - always good when the local teams are winning. The NBA play-in tournament is a neat idea to spice things up, even if the format takes some getting used to. And hockey is starting to heat up as well as we head into the holidays.
I also appreciate you taking the time to acknowledge Pearl Harbor Day during the video. As you said, it doesn't get discussed as much nowadays unfortunately but it's still an important part of our history. Wonder how card designs and subject matter have changed over the years in regard to commemorating major historical events.
It's always fun when you share your sports fandom through the lens of the hobby too. Collecting helps bring that passion to life in a visual, tangible way. Thanks for keeping us updated on your regular quests - both large and small - to grow those team sets and player collections. Would be great if you ever do that potential third card room video as well. Until then, enjoy the upcoming games and holiday season! Look forward to seeing what else may be showing up in future videos. Keep up the great work!
Good advance on the ‘63 set and last cards to complete the Hockey set! You are making great progress without having to spend a fortune. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing your awesome collection with us!
It only took me 30 years to finish that hickey set. HAHAHA. That set was a big deal when it came out. I am getting closer in 1963, I'll finish it sometime next year. Thanks for watching!
Hey Rick. Thanks for showing us some cards! The 63s look great. That set really comes through when you find nice copies. Nice Jagr card. I can't get enough of that hair from that time in his career. Beautiful pink and blue on the NBA cards. Hope all is well!
I was a big Jarg fan, Sammy. That guy is still playing in Europe and scoring goals. He's a machine. Love the 63's and I cannot believe I am buying basketball cards, but they are great. Thanks so much for watching!
Hey Rick! Nice of you to recognize it is Pearl Harbor Day. Thanks for sharing where you got your dividers from and how you make your labels. You have a nice and neat setup. A good number of Yankees in tonight's offering. I am glad to see the Bomber's Best, Mathews and Ford on your video. You did well with those! I am with you on unmarked checklist. I have the same in all my sets. Johnny Blanchard was one of the 7 Yankees to hit over 20 HRs in 1961. The other team prior to the 90s to do it was a mid sixties Twins team. Maybe 64? That is so impressive considering how few of players hit 20 home runs in those days compared to the 90s and beyond.
Nice McMillan card. The Lakers team set will look fantastic displayed together.
You're close to knocking the 61 All Star set off. Sharp looking Brooks card. Do you plan display the whole set in one of your cases?
Terry, I got super lucky with those 1963 graded cards. I was way off on Blanchard. I totally thought he never played behind Elston and Yogi. Everyone but me knows who he is except me!
Lakers are coming together. Regarding the 1961 All-Star's in a case, I am kind of at a crossroads when it comes to displaying. I may start rotating new cards on every quarter starting in 2024, so those 61's could end up intergraded with the other cards, but I may just keep them all together in a case too. You will finely be the first to know.
Thanks for watching!
Been looking for a good label maker. Thanks for the info on the Brother P-Touch. Great cards, and by the way, Blanchard actually caught quite a bit and played several games in the 1960 and 61 world series hitting for .455 and .400. I've seen a few interviews of him and he always had some great Mantle stories. LOL
It's a very good labelmaker, Mike. I highly recommend it. I was way off on Blanchard. I totally thought he never played behind Elston and Yogi. I always love me a good Mickey Mantle story.
Great pickups Rick! love the 71-72 McMillian and West cards! McMillian was a huge part of that championship team. That 61 Robinson all-star card is sweet, love that subset! Thanks for sharing!
That was the first Lakers team I ever saw. Oh and how I hated Lew Alcindor back then. I can't believe a few years later, he'd be my hero. I love that 61 All-Star subset. My favorite subset of all. Thanks for watching!
@@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector I was the same way with Alcindor, I was a little too young to remember him at UCLA, hated him when he played for the Bucks and like you loved him as a Laker... that is why we are called fans!🙂
Thanks for remembering Pearl Harbor. Four family members in the generation before me served in World War II, all came back alive, thank God. I think I was the last (substitute) teacher to show a clip of FDR's speech in class. Actually, John Blanchard did get into some season games for the Yanks. He backed up Berra and Howard. That Star Receivers card is one of Topps' best combos ever. And the 1961 all-star subset is probably their best looking of all time. Are you going to collect any color variations for the 1963 checklists? You are smart to be buying cards in this down market.
Michael, we don't hear much about Pearl Harbor with each year that passes, so I thought it was a good idea to acknowledge that day. I'm glad your family came back safe.
I was way off on Blanchard. I totally thought he never played behind Elston and Yogi.
Love the 1961 All-Star set. I probably won't collect the 1963 color variations for the Checklists. I do have Series 1 in both variations, but unless they drop on my lap, I don't myself doing it. Some times I have my master set cap on, so you never know.
Thanks for watching!
Nice progress on the 63 set. Those are some good ones. 👍 I'm loving that lakers team set you're building.
Loving the Lakers too. 1963 is a nice set. Do you own that one?
@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector nope. Just the red Sox and some hall of famers I liked.
Yeah boy
Thank you!
I think it was Pancho Herrera.
THAT GUY! I can never remember his name. Thanks.
