Hey Rick! Mike here. It was great talking to you again buddy! You have a great memory. I did in fact get a 1958 Ernie Banks in a PSA6 and a Morgan rookie in an SGC7. I got those from Paul of Starxcards out of Longmont CO. He had some beautiful stuff. Also got from him a 1965 Stargell in a CGC8.5 and a 1965 Frank Robinson in a CGC7 with razor sharp corners. Also got a raw 1965 Aaron that I think will grade a 6 or 7, and a raw 1959 Campy Symbol of Courage card that was basically a throw in on the deal. Could have stayed at his table all day (and just about did!). Paul is a great guy. Also picked up a couple of sweet cards from Bob Krawetz from The Ninth Inning out of St. Paul MN. Got a gorgeous 1963 Mays in an SGC6.5 and a 1965 Mantle Clutch WS Homer card in an SGC7. Likewise Bob had an awesome inventory of stuff. I loved Levan’s cards too but his marked prices seemed a bit steep and wasn’t ready to do the negotiation dance until I saw the rest of the dealers and by the time I made it back there I was out of ammo. Congrats on the Yogi pickup. It’s a great card. Hope to run into you again at the Burbank Show in Anaheim. I might try to make it back to Long Beach again in September too.

Mike, we completed the deal on Yogi a little after you left. I was happy with it. You SCORED yesterday. You walked out of there with some great stuff. That's right, The Mays and Mantle WS card from Bob. That was deal I couldn't remember. I need to meetup with Paul. He and his wife had a nice table of cards.
Look for me in Burbank. I think that's my next local show. I went to Newport today for about a half hour. I don't think you would have cared for it compared to Long Beach. Talk soon!

Love it. Patience is key. Years ago I was way too impatient and ended up spending too much for cards. I literally waited two years looking for the 55 Jackie Robinson that fit all my criteria.

Drew, I was thinking of your comment from my last video "any day at a card show is a good day" and I totally agree. I didn't feel like buying a lot of cards so I just sat at Levon's table for a couple of hours and eventually we were able to create a deal. Was fun! That Jackie of yours is SWEET! You have a keen eye. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

  • @mikethesportshistorycollec1947

Great recap of the show, Rick. Love the Berra, but also have a lot of those other Bowman's you got, on my want list, but from 1951 and 52. Funny, I was just looking at the Ferris Fain and Mike Garcia earlier today. Never knew that Garcia was from San Gabriel. Have a great weekend.

Thanks Mike. I know this is far for you, but I think you'd like this show. I didn't know Garcia was from San Gabriel until I looked him up one day on Wikipedia. Had a nice career. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

    Hi Rick,
Awww...the anatomy of a deal. Well done. It looks and sounds like you had a fun show. Congrats on the '50 Bowman Yogi. That is my favorite card of his, and you got a nice one. You probably saw the Fain on my channel. It is one of my favorite cards, and I profiled it with a Sport Magazine I have with him on the cover. I believe he is the only two-time batting champion to have a career average under .300. Check out how cool the A's uniform looks on the Pete Suder. I didn't realize they had yellow in their uniform back then. The Kozar is a beautiful card too. Nice Garcia rookie as well. He may be one of the 10 best pitchers of the 1950s. It's hard for him to set himself apart when you pitched with Wynn, Lemon, Feller, and then Score.
You're making nice progress on your '61 high numbers. That Diamond Stars Ferrell is a beauty.
You will get the '63 Clemente when the time is right.
    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Terry. A deal that took awhile to complete, but I was in no hurry. I was happy with the deal I made. In this case, it was the bigger the better, The Yogi is a great card. I'll never get his RC, but this one is good for me.
Yeah, that was you and the Fain. It's a great card. Yeah, the A's had some nice uni's back then. I even like their last uniform in 62 before the green and yellow came around. Looking at a Clemente now, If it's still available in a week, maybe I'll get it.
      Thanks for watching, Terry!

      I’m currently building it. I’m at 153/252 = 60.7%, with 22 cards incoming.
I don’t have a card that’s worth more than $100 left to go though- I’ve got Jackie, Ted, Yogi, etc. from this one!

The Yogi is beautiful, congrats on adding it into your collection Rick! Love the managers dream with Clemente of course. I keep rooting for you to get your 63 haha. When your videos come out no joke I say I hope he got the Clemente! 😂 really enjoy hearing your approach and recaps at the shows. We are a lot like. I’m scared to spend money just the way I’ve always been when I need to make a bigger purchase it takes me forever to do it as I think through everything, I guess that’s a good thing. Enjoyed as always. Have a good weekend.

Thanks Mike. That Managers Dream card, I was working on the 1968 set as a kid. Got maybe 75% of the set completed back then but I knew I'd have to buy that Clemente card and it was expensive in my 15 year old brain. Happy I finally got one.
I could have had a Clemente video about a week ago but I took too long in making a decision and someone bought it. UGH!! Soon! I am going to tag you when I do buy one. hahaha.
Yeah, spending money at shows. Some people easily throw down several hundred dollar bills on the table, walk away and then do the same thing at another table. I buy several big cards a year and when I do, I really sit there and have to think about it. In this case, I had been thinking about the card a few weeks, but I still wanted to wait another week. Then he showed me the 50 bowman cards he had just bought and I think maybe we can make a bigger deal. That really helped. You know card collecting is a crazy world!
Thank you so much for watching. I hope you're having a good Saturday and still laughing that your Pirates made my Dodgers look bad this week.

Haha I can’t believe Jones shut them out the way he did. Buccos have some talent just need more haha!
Glad the bigger deal worked out. I’m saving a little by little each money putting away for a Clemente rookie. I may be sick to my stomach when I part with that kinda money but will also be floating on cloud 9. It’s always a catch 22.
