A,great set. Your right collect what you like. I love vintage because of the history of the players. Today's players will accomplish. Thanks😊

Bob, we have to collect what we like or we wouldn't be doing it. I'd hate to see someone trying to do what I do because it might not suit them. I see collectors who are like me, but they focus on a different team and it's still an incredible collection to look at. I appreciate you watching!

2nd video like - A great collection is unique to each individual collector. That's part of what makes it fun, you can personalize your collection for your own enjoyment. You ended the video with a lot of great cards there. Loved that Bob Friend. Thanks for sharing

When I look at my collection, I want to see baseball history as if I was watching Ken Burns baseball, or I want to see my childhood...or I want to see something that I just really like looking at. It's kinda like listening to music. Different music for different moods. Love your thought process on collecting and curating your collection. Well done Rick.

Thanks Mike. I know I want to see my childhood first and then I want to see what my childhood could only dream of next. When I see your card room and a lot of other card rooms, I say man they did it differently than I did, but it's still brilliant. That's the beauty of collecting.

Hey Rick! What a great question. I definitely think you have a great collection and I think we can all appreciate others collections because we are collectors. I think what makes a great collection is if you can step back take a look at it and it makes you happy and has meaning to you is kinda what makes a collection great.
I can’t wait for this podcast there are many CZcamsrs I follow that teach me so many different things.
For what’s it’s worth YOU, Terry TJMAC and Eric Card closet just to name a few great collectors with many more years experience than myself are always in my head when looking at my vintage cards and team sets as well as building out my team sets.
As someone that’s newer to team collecting and working on Pirates, Steelers and Penguins I would very much like to be part of the podcast as a guest to discuss why I do it and what it means to me to collect those specific teams!
Great topic and looking forward to the future stuff you’re working on!

Hi Mike. Thanks for all your kind words. A great collection is so subjective and I am my own worst critic that's for sure. I see other collections and go WOW and then I see mine and go eh. hahaha.
Terry and Eric are two of my favorite collectors. I think Eric and I are a lot alike. Terry is in a different world cause he has so many graded cards from three different sports. He's also been buying graded cards a lot longer than most of us. The man has great stuff. I appreciate you putting me in the same sentence as those two.
If I get off my rear and get this podcast going, you will have to join me one day. What do you say??

Yeah, I think we all have different levels or types of greatness. I think if a collector makes an effort and has a plan, a collection will be great. Love the 61's. If I start this podcast I definitely want YOU on it. Thanks for watching!

Great conversation. For my collection it is a growing and changing personality. What I mean about that statement is, sometimes a card just speaks to me or I'm bitten by The nostalgia bug and I have to obtain it even though I have a mission for my PC. My collection never gets boring or stagnant.
Great video that makes you think. Cheers.

A great card collection can be one card or a million cards or somewhere in between, but most importantly, the cards you collect and care for are special to you, for your own personal reasons and personal enjoyment.

Interesting question Rick. I believe that the term "Great" is relative to a person's point of view. That being said, I believe you have a great collection. Congrats on completing the 1941 PB set.

Thanks Tim. I agree that it's relative to the person's point of view. Of course, I am my own harshest critic. Appreciate your kid words!

  • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648

Hi Rick! As we texted the other night, a good question to ponder. Of course, it is subjective but it is fun to exchange thoughts on what constitutes a great collection to you.
I don’t believe it has to be reflective of all eras, the greatest players or the most valuable cards. If you’re a dealer buying collections then I imagine the latter would definitely apply. They are typically going to look at a collection being great based on value. As a collector, I don’t look at it that way. It is complicated. I saw a great collection of T206s as a kid that an elderly gentleman was given by his father after he passed. The man’s father was the original owner. They were glued to a tool box but still nice cards. In my view, that is a great collection because it had value, meaning and a fantastic story. The same would not be true if the man inherited 88 Topps baseball. Haha.
    It is an interesting topic.
Congrats on completing the 61 All Stars. That is a beautiful subset. The newspaper design captures a period when newspapers were still the way most people consumed sports information.
    Thanks for sharing.

It's a damn good question and I have plenty more, Terry. LOL. I think too much about these things.
That's a great analogy about the all eras if you're a dealer. I do feel it's important for them to sell cards from all eras to attract a wider audience. Not as much us. I still like having cards from different era's so I can learn about these guys I have only heard of through books or baseball announcers. Of course I have learned a lot about players I have never heard of and I think that's the funnest part of being a collector.
Those T206 cards you saw would have been amazing to see. Did it influence you in any way? 88 Topps baseball....sigh
Those 61's are my favorite of subsets along with the 1975 MVP cards. Thanks for watching. I know we'll talk soon!

I have similar views on what’s “the big story” you are trying to tell with your collection. What’s the purpose?
I see mine as a museum to the history of the game, so a heavy focus on HOFers and vintage- but with the milestone clubs and other historically significant people as well (think Johnny Vander Meer or Fernando Valenzuela for instance).
    Great topic for discussion Rick!

What would make my collection great, is getting back all the cards I sold thirty to forty years ago.
