The 70s had a lot of awesome cards and legends! To me each decade has their legends and stories to tell! Thats the beauty of the game as a whole! Every player, Every story and every legendary moment in the entire history of the game! Thanks for sharing!

My goodness we had the same childhood Rick! We sent a friend to our local candy store on a recon mission to see if the new cards were out yet. He would pedal back and yell "they're out!" Picture 20 bikes racing to the store to get first dibs( after our recon friend of course) My summer days were spent playing pickup baseball with buddies, then home for lunch and This week in baseball, then back to playing ball. Nights were spent trading that days purchases. Many sets were completed! The best part of the summer was the All Star game, it was must see TV. Wasn't our childhood the greatest? Thanks for the memories Rick.

Mark, my group was nowhere near as smart as yours. We had no recon man. At least you did! I think in 1973 I was on my own collecting wise. In 1974, I had friends who I went to the store with. I wish I could have seen the sprint of 20 bikes. Now I would think of the poor store owner's face when you all shows up. HAHAHA! It was a great era to be a kid for sure!
This Week in Baseball was the only way we could even watch video back then. I used to love that show. You are so right about the All Star Game. I used to love the player introductions and how excited I would get when a Dodger player was announced. I wouldn't miss that game for anything back then. Now I never watch. Too high production for me.
Loved your comments. Brought a smile to my face that someone understood that era. Thanks for watching!

Enjoyed as always Rick. Enjoyed hearing all about your trip down memory lane, really awesome. Crazy how we all identify with the “best era” I enjoyed the 90s as I was born in 86. 90s were my 70s for you it’s when I fell in love with the game and the rest is history. Looking forward to seeing the next few videos on the 70s. Hope you are having a good weekend.

I would love to hear people's experiences from their respective decades, because yeah, everyone's decade is the best. The 90's had a lot of wax. How did you decide what to buy? So many choices. I was buying hockey in the 90s and even that sport had a lot of cards. Thanks for watching, Mike!

Loved this video Rick! Nothing like seeing the cards that planted your seeds as a sports fan and a collector. So many thoughts are running through my head. I remember when guys would get traded and you wanted to see their cards on their new team. I can relate to what you said about Jim Wynn. In football it was worse, you had to wait a year to get cards of rookies. I remember George Rogers and Marcus Allen having big rookie years and waiting for their cards. Same with Marino and Dickerson. There are numerous others.
I love the 74 set design and photography. It is a time capsule to the era. Those of us who grew up with those types of photos I think appreciate them.
You’re right about the 72 Carew and Garvey being big cards. Nice you got the 72 Ryan. I don’t remember when I first saw the 72 Traded cards but I liked the look of them. I still want to add the Morgan.
I hope you have a great weekend Rick. I am at my oldest son’s tournament and this video was a great way to start the day. I enjoyed hearing the memories.
    Have a great weekend.

Thanks Terry! Looking at my 70s cards is definitely a look into my past. So many memories of players and cards that I bought in those days. I never understood the football issue until you just brought it up. How awful it was to wait a full year for a RC.
The 74 set is nice. I really think it's a great set. 1972 to this day I view as a beast. I don't know how I ever completed that set. I wouldn't want to do it again with all those semi-high and high numbers. I can't imagine the cost now. I wonder how much the Morgan will set you back?
Always appreciate the kind words. I hope your son does well this weekend! Happy Fathers Day to you!

Hi Rick, our childhood memories are so similar my friend. I used to buy my cards at Lee's Liquors on Valley Blvd. in Alhambra, Thrifty or the local toy store in Glendora! The Orioles were really awesome in the early 70s. I am a big fan of the 1970 Topps set, I remember Rico Carty and Tony C. when he played for the Angels! I remember the 71 division race and reading the LA Times that said something like it over the Dodgers finish one game back. I remember when the Dodgers traded for the Toy Cannon Jimmy Wynn and the monster year he had in 74. Great stuff, really enjoyed this stroll down memory lane!

Steve, I always forget the Glendora part of your life. I was there yesterday visiting my mom. I wonder what happened to the local toy store you mentioned?
71 I barely remember, but what I do, was an incredible memory. I'd like to do more research on where particular Dodgers/Giants series where Giants reliever Jerry Johnson actually tried to start a fight with the umps and and had to be wrestled to the ground my his own teammates! Those were the days!
You're right, we had the same memories and they were the best of times. Give me 30 cents and I'll come back with a candy bar, a coke and a pack of cards for you. HAHAHA. Thanks for watching, Steve!

I think the 80s are awesome for similar reasons. Great memories of cards as a kid. Great showcase and cool to hear about your collecting history.

Isn't it neat that we can all identify with our respective decades? Card collecting was the best in those era's. The excitement of opening packs....nothing like. it. Thanks for watching, Mark!

  • @storiesincardboard9420

The 70’s were great! I started watching sports in the 70’s but didn’t start collecting until 1980 so it was fun when I would find cards from the 70’s and get some of the “old” cards. Take care, Rick.

CHRIS! I remember in the late 70s/early 80's if we saw cards from the 50's, we thought they were ancient. In reality they were only 20-30 years. Now 20-30 years gets me in the 1994-2004 range. Just doesn't sound the same! Thanks for watching, my friend!

  • @mikethesportshistorycollec1947

Hi Rick, lovin those 70's cards. Rico Carty had such a great 1970 season. Most people probably don't even remember him, which is a shame since he had a .299 lifetime average. Heck of a hitter. Catfish, well what can you say about him...definitely one of my all time favorite p;layers and a player I PC. Love that 74 card of his. Have a great weekend my friend.

Thanks Mike. By the time I saw Rico play, he was now on the Rangers. Would love to have seen him play. Catfish was a great pitcher. The A's had a great rotation back then. Have a great weekend too!
