Hi Rick. Loved your collecting journey. Laughed out loud about the "if I had my childhood cards". As I remember it, I had all the Ruth's and Gehrig's and every other HOF'er in gem mint 10 condition. LOL. That 1950 Rizzuto is a beauty...congrats on that great pickup. Have a great weekend my friend.

Hi Mike! Yeah, we all had Ruth's and Willie Mays RC's. UGH!!! I did keep about 100 cards from my original collection in a binder. A lot of the HOF cards are VG at the best. Thanks for the Rizzuto. Have a wonderful Memorial Day and thank you for your service.

Enjoyed hearing about your collecting journey Rick! Those 1950 bowman’s are beauties. That rizzuto is one of my favorites. Enjoyed as always. Hope you have a nice Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks Mike. The Rizzuto is a good example of me buying a card cause someone on CZcams (I think it was Don-Field of Dreams) and I said, wow I really want that card. I hope you have a nice long weekend!

Enjoyed hearing about your journey Rick. I remember moving on from cards as a teenager to buy a car and records. Sweet 1950 Bowman’s those are such great looking cards! I am a fan of the 1968 game cards,
My favorite concert of all-time Pearl Jam opened up for the Stones at the Oakland colosseum.

Steve, you saw PJ open for The Stones? That's AMAZING! I wish I had been there. Bonnie Raitt opened for them at Dodger Stadium the one time I saw them. Was very excited to see Mick Jagger in person.
Remember back then, our parents made us buy are own cars? That meant I had to work. Working, music and girls really ended my first chapter of card collecting. I am glad we decided to come back though for another chapter.
      Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your story Rick. I agree about keeping up with the Jones’s. For me it’s been hard not to get sucked into the other CZcamsrs and their amazing collection and not get envious. My first card purchase back collecting is the 50 bowman Doby. I wanted someone who was under appreciated and to me the 50 bowman looks like a visual definition of vintage. Hope to spot you at a local show here in SoCal. Cheers

Keeping up with the Jones can be an issue. I stay in my lane, but if you do collect, eventually you'll have to buy some big cards. I have just learned to plan ahead and if I buy a huge card, I can't buy another one for at least 3-4 months.
I want a 1950 Bowman Doby, that's great you have one (I only have the 51).
Look for me at the next local show. Would love to talk!

Thanks for sharing your collecting journey. Mine is similar in some ways. Wish I wouldn’t have stopped years ago, but like you, cars and girls become priority 😅 I’m glad to be back now and it sounds like you are as well. Great video!

Those damn cars and girls ruined it all! hahaha. At least for me that happened when I was young and not when I was a lot older and forced to sell stuff. Thanks for watching!

  • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648

Hi Rick , you did end up picking up the 50 Bowman Rizzuto. I know you were mulling it over. Nice looking card. Good to see the Crosetti too. I think he has the most World Series with 17. That counts as a coach and player.
It was interesting to hear your collecting journey. I laugh at those who say if I still had my cards. They all have 52 Topps Mantle cards too . Haha. You’re right they likely would have been beat up unless it was towards the end of their collecting. It surprises me how many nice vintage cards made it. There were no great ways to preserve them.
Nice 50 Bowman additions to the set you’re not building. Those cards are pieces of art. They make it tempting to want to build the set. One of the guys I work with is married to Sibby Sisti’s granddaughter.
No, Roger Maris doesn’t have a bad card. Nice 68!

      Hi Terry!
I have it a day after we spoke and decided to buy it. If I buy the Berra and Williams, I'll start a set officially. hahaha!
Yeah, that whole "if I still had my cards" thing to me is ridiculous. We just abused those cards. You're right, maybe if we were a little older, it would have been a different story. I failed to mention of my original collection, I did keep about 100 cards in a. binder so I still have those. My 1974 Willie McCovey Washington National card is G-VG at best but displayed proudly in my 1974 Topps set. Same with the 1965 Kaline and Clemente. I don't want upgrades for those cards. These are the cards I had when I was a child and they're important to me.
How interesting your coworker is married to Sisto's granddaughter! Any stories there.
Yeah, Maris cards just look great. I want that 58 now! Thanks for watching, Terry!

Great point on how so many great vintage cards made it. Heck my mom bought me my first cards probably in 1990 or 91 and when I got back into collecting she brought some of them over and they were just thrown in a white plastic box lol. Now with how I store cards and what my son sees on YT the first thing he does is sleeve the one he thinks are the best haha.
