Congrats Rick on completing the set. Enjoyed hearing about your journey through it all. I learn so much from you about building the set as I’m taking some of your tips and experiences on my 56’. Appreciate you sharing and looking forward to what’s next for you.

Hey Rick, I enjoyed seeing you complete this journey. What an incredible set you have assembled that will bring you joy for many years to come. It is strange in someways that you finally completed it because you have been working on this set as long as I have known you. I appreciate you covering some of the statistics from the set to include the grade breakout and number of HOFers. Seeing the two display cases at the end really captures the beauty of the set. You can see all the different colors, backgrounds and poses. There honestly isn't a bad looking card in the set.
It was nice hearing your thoughts on the other sets you have built. You have an amazing collection with complete sets of 41 PlayBall, 53 Topps, 57 Topps and soon to be 63 Topps. Not to mention all your Dodger and HOFer cards.
    On to the next challenge...

Ahhh Terry, I still remember the day I told you I had won 27 cards in an auction. That was crazy!!!
The picture of the display cases just doesn't do it justice compared to seeing it in person, but yeah they look nice in pictures. All those colors!! I have too many cards!! I appreciate you always being there on my journey, Terry. Especially the night you explained to me about pop reports, Was so eye opening. Have a good week!

Enjoyed the completion of your set video Rick! It's a great feeling to complete one. 1941 Play ball is a heck of an accomplishment, and I hope to join you in completing it someday!

Congrats Rick! Interesting last card, not one I would have suspected. I never noticed there were no Cubs in the set. Very interesting! I enjoyed hearing what you learned from building the set. I was a history guy in school too and I couldn't agree more about one of the fun things about set building is learning about the players. Take care, Rick.

Thank you, Chris! I honestly thought Ted Williams was going to be the last card, not George Case! US History was my favorite. Always appreciate you watching, my friend!

First of all, congrats on finishing the Play Ball set, Rick. I love the closing photo of them all in your two cases on the wall...they fit really well. I've pretty much given up on the idea of trying for a set, and maybe even player runs (for the most part) because there are so many cards that I want and so few years left to collect...and of course, I have no patience LOL. Anyway, really enjoyed your recap and explanation of why you chose the set and why you didn't chose some ot the others. Thanks for sharing this my friend.

Mike, thanks so much. Its so funny that since since fits perfectly into 2 x 36 Pennzoni display cases. I got lucky there. Could you imagine if the set was like 75 cards? HAHAHA.
I love sets, but I get what you mean about so many cards. You could just be walking down an aisle and some guy is selling something like a 1933 Goudey Lefty Grove or 34 Goudey Errnie Lombardi and you just say I WANT THAT CARD!!!
I will be making a video eventually showing all the cards from the set with music from that era, so you'll be hearing from me for advice!!

Congratulations on your accomplishment, Rick. What a great set to complete. Another tidbit on George Case. He played in Lou Gehrig's final game in 1939. Started in CF, went 0-4, but knocked in the Senators' first run with a sacrifice fly in a come from behind 3-2 victory over the Yankees. Lou never played again. Since George completed your PB set, thought you might want an extra factoid in case someone asked! Great comments on the fact about WWII and these ballplayers.

Thanks Rob. This is another things I like about talking about players from the past because sometimes I've never heard of a player, but someone else will chime in and provide me some great info. I still can't believe this guy raced Jesse Owens. hahaha.

I'm rather glad that Case card was last, because it opened the door to such fascinating exploration of MLB history during that era. For sure for several decades the factors of base stealing and speed declined in MLB, to be revived so forcefully by Mr. Wills. I certainly enjoyed your systems analysis of the 1941 Play Ball set - composition, technical details, the eventual transition to Bowman - and your journey in building it, with sidelights of the PSA grades. So few content creators seem willing to go into that depth, and yet this is what collecting has traditionally been about. The anecdote about the absence of Cubs made me laugh. It's interesting to me that in the years before World War II, the number of baseball cards in each major set seemed to be declining, even though we weren't in the war yet.

Michael, this was a fun set to work on indeed. I really learned a lot and I consider myself an experienced collector, but I realized I still have a lot to learn. I miss the stolen base. I grew up with Wills, Brock, Morgan, Lopes, Rickey and Coleman. A lot's changed since that time. Funny note regarding the Cubs, they do not appear in 1939 Play Ball set as well and for 1940, the only Cubs that appear are the retired HOF players that were featured.
I appreciate your kind words. Makes me happy to see people are watching. Take care!

Congratulations on the completion of another set! I'm building the 52 Topps set myself and I'm currently 189 on the registry with an average of a PSA 6. l'm also on the West Coast and live in Riverside county. I'm looking to start my first vintage raw set and store them in a binder. I think it would be cool to collect our sets together and share the victories with each other. I know you don't know me, but let me know if you're interested. Thanks for all the entertainment. Love the channel!

Thank you so much for your comment! Man, you're building a 1952 set. I am looking you up on the set registry. That's going to be an incredible set to work on. I take it you still need Mantle and Mathews?
What part of Riverside Country are you in? My sister is in Menifee. What set were you thinking of starting? If I can offer you any advice, my email is in my bio. Look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for looking me up. My set name is The Rivers Collection and I’m 189 on the 52 basic. Yes, I still need Mantle and Mathews.
I live in Eastvale. I also have a sister that lives in Menifee. I was thinking about 1960 or 1962 Topps. Thank you for the offer of advice!

Congrats on being so high on the PSA registry for your ’41 Play Ball set. What a great set to collect. Any set I have built, it always seemed like there were one or two cards (usually commons) that were sooo difficult to find in the right condition at the right price. Part of the fun! Your comment on those above you on the registry, it amazes me as to the high grade sets that some collectors have. There are really some fantastic collections out there! Here’s a question for you, did you buy any of the cards ungraded and then send them in yourself for grading?

    • @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector
      @RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector Před 4 měsíci

Mitch, you asked a great question which I addressed fully in the video I just released this afternoon. I DID buy all the cards in a PSA slab. I got lucky there.
Yeah, there is always 1-2 cards that can be stubborn, I am currently experiencing this with the 1963 Topps Tom Tresh. I can find him easy enough, but I am wanting to find the card cheaper.
I was amazed that I was 23 in the Set Registry. That just shows some guys have some SERIOUS stuff in their collections. hahaha
      Thanks for watching!
