Boy, Travis looked to be on pace for the HOF before his service in the war. I wonder if his exposure to frost bite or maybe something else derailed his career. He was still fairly young when he got back. Now I want to read more about him. Beautiful background on that card. The end is near.

Hi Terry, yeah Cecil Travis basically missed four seasons cause of the war. God only knows what his stats would have looked like had he not been in the war. I wonder about the frost bite too. Yeah, it's a nice card. This set doesn't have many (or any) bad ones.
      Thanks for watching!

Patience was certainly the key here. I'd forgotten what a top-notch player Travis was. He certainly started out young in the majors. I'm enthusiastic about this series of videos and hope you find another card soon.

Cecil Travis is an interesting player. I think the war affected many players. What they saw and went through would crush most people. To me it is without a doubt the greatest generation. Travis lived long enough too that he signed a ton of autographs. He was very gracious to the fans that requested his autograph.
I would have never guessed this would be one of the last to finish the set. There are lots of sneaky tough cards out there. Congrats Rick. I’m on pins and needles as you try to nail down the last two!

Chris, I did not know about the autographs. That was great of him. One of my biggest takeaways of this set is how many guys had their lives changed forever because of WWII. I try and remember that when I start feeling sorry for myself about life every so often. Thanks for watching!

Beautiful card Rick. Travis is such an interesting story. He's definitely one of the players that was on his way to a hall of fame career, but had it taken away by WW2. You're absolutely correct that he was never the same once he got back. Very cool that you're down to 2 cards. Congrats.

Mike, crazy that he missed almost four seasons due to the war. I am sure I wouldn't have been the same in any way, shape or form would I be. I mean he was at the Battle of the Bulge. He definitely came home a different man. Would love to learn more about him. See you on Friday!

Rick, thanks for sharing the update!
I'm currently, slowly but surely, collecting the 1957 Topps Brooklyn Dodgers set. Like you, I'm getting them all in PSA slabs, to put them on the registry.
When you were collecting the 1950's sets, did you get them all in PSA slabs or did you collect many of them raw?

      Hi David:
This will most likely be my only set that is all graded. My other sets, including the 50's are about 5% graded, 95% ungraded.
That 1957 Topps Dodger set will be a beauty. Please keep me updated on your progress.
      Thanks for watching!
