Actually i failed at every calathea i took care of. I am saddened by the fact that i just can't seem to raise them properly. 😢

How many times a day is the diffuser running? Does it run off and on by itself or do you have to start it every so often?

I've had a few of those some easier some advanced (medallion, picturata crimson, dottie and zebrina) but all of them died. My musaica is around 6 years old. And even though we had our ups and downs it outlived all of them and it's doing pretty good. Currently it is sprouting 7 new leaves and I'm soo proud of it! (It's one of the first plants that I ever purchased)

Calathea are beautiful indoor plants with absolutely gorgeous leaves I have 3 medallion velvet and pinstripe and they are doing really well.

I didn’t put perlite into the potting soil 😮 it’s already in shock so I’m afraid to do anything else yet.

How much of an impact would you say 4-6 hours of air conditioning could have on a musaica?

I've had mi calathea for a gud 8 yrs and suddenly it's blooming a cute green flower 🤩 actually 2 r blooming. I have nvr seen ths b4! Ahmazing!

Thank you. A really helpful video that gives me some hope. I bought a calathea for the beauty of the green and purple leaves and had No Idea how much effort they require. I will repot this afternoon with new soil for better drainage and keep my fingers crossed.

Worm castings, while often marketed as a fertilizer, are more accurately classified as a soil amendment. They are deficient in nitrogen and other essential plant nutrients, and therefore do not meet the criteria to be considered a fertilizer. Despite this, companies are permitted to label worm castings as a fertilizer, leading to confusion.

Brown leaf tips on calatheas can also be caused by a lack of humidity. I eliminated pests and the risk of pests, as well as root rot entirely by ditching the usual potting soil and using an aroid "soilless" potting mix which drains extremely well, and decomposes slowly. There is no need to aerate the soil as the aroid mix does this naturally. The brand I bought is Molly's. It contains "over 20 organic and mineral ingredients, including coir fiber, calcitic and dolomitic limestone, coarse horticultural perlite, expanded clay, worm castings, orchid bark, coir chips, Bacillus pumilus, horticultural charcoal, Rhizophagus irregularis, and naturally-occurring micronutrients are mixed together to achieve proper pH balance." In the two years I've used it, my plants have never been healthier and I haven't had one gnat or other pest.

So, orbifolia was not included in this list? Did I miss it, did the name change ?

I just got a tricolor ginger. Can I propagate it like variegated ginger? Should I plant in ground? I live in houston

Ty now I understand. I rescued one from a local hardware store recently. It was in a plastic pot with drainage holes. But the plastic pot was in a snug fitting, beautiful, clay pot. So there was no way for it to drain. I’m praying I can save it. Thanks again.

Thank you! Your video is very informative! I have 2 types of calathea plants that need lots of TLC and after watching your video, I have hope that they will survive! I had one in the past that grew by its own mystical, magical self... and then I moved it from its spot.... big mistake! I have not had any luck since then keeping new plants alive, so I gave up. After more than 10 years I bought the 2 that I have now (and being I have no green thumb and can kill plastic plants) they both took a turn for the worst. After your video today, I learned I was trimming the brown damaged areas back too much and causing new damage instead. After watching how to care for them I can't wait to them flourish into big, beautiful plants like I had before! Thank you for your lovely video on how to love and care for calatheas!

The only indoor plant that I give worm castings is the calathea in every spring and every time a week after I put down the worm castings it starts to triple the foliage and blooming. It’s automatic they love it

I thought this was a easy plant when I bought my plant she was healthy I moved and man she is not happy brown leaves I cut the leaves and I'm not giving up 😢

Every home has different light, air, humidity. Everyone has different watering habits. So everyone needs to know what works for them. If 100% perlite if what your house needs, do it. I’ve realised there is no right or wrong potting mix which works for everyone. I recently went for 100% perlite because I was tired of trying several things. Seems to have worked. Drama queen seems happy.

Hello, just came across your channel; thank you for this helpful information. I just repotted my Calathea 3 days ago and it’s doing fairly well but I have one leaf that started to curl up the next day. I turned the humidifier back on and later that evening the leaf started to open back up. Then again, this morning I saw that it started curling up again. It’s just the one leaf that’s located at the bottom. A few others towards the bottom are droopy but not curling at all. I’ve not had any leaves droop before nor curl up before the repot. They’ve always laid down at night but then stand up so nicely during the day at some point. I hope he’ll be okay.

Every week I water with diluted cool black coffee,wipe every leaf

I bought one that has the perfect soil. I believe it is Coco coir. It is one of the few plants I left and didn't repot. It is thriving

I've had a Rattlesnake Calathea for a week now and it's already driving me crazy lol. Took mines outside as well and the leaves curled with in minutes. Hope I can save it.

I have quite a few plants I don’t have drainage holes for or I have purposely kept the hole plugged. I do it for plants that need to keep some of that humidity level going because my apartment is rather dry and I don’t see humidifiers working in my plant spaces (they share their space near computers, books, etc). However never a store not having them in nursery pots that’s just a crime!!! Ahh

I had edges of my collision leaves were turning black and black at base. I took the plant out of the soil, thoroughly washed off the roots. Spraying them very vigorously with 3% peroxide andcut away all of the rot. Replaced the soil into a well cleaned new pot. And treated uninfected leafs with a mix of half a teaspoon baking soda and One teaspoon salt , spraying each leaf once a week for four weeks To prevent any fungus or disease from growing back and spraying base with peroxide also weekly. I now have a healthy plant again😊😊
