  • In this new series, I walk through my struggling calathea collection, plant-by- plant, to assess what's wrong and what I can do to help improve the health of each one. I'm continuing this series with my Calathea Picturata 'Crimson'. Hang out with me while I figure out what's happening with the plant and do what I can to help it get better.

We certainly appreciate the "real world" calathea content! It's so helpful to see other hobby-ist's challenges with these gorgeous plants and learning from each other's experiences. Thanks for the time and effort you put into filming your plant care!!

Hey Addy Beez, Missed you. My Calathea collection looks like your Picturata. Of my 4 Calathea's 3 are really struggling. I moved them to a window with less sunlight and they became even worse so I brought them back to the original window. They don't even do their heliotropic movement anymore. Not sure what that's about. They are still in the original plant pot and soil I bought them in from last year. I guess looking at your video, I will make a batch of soil and observe how they improve. I hope you are able to post more videos. I really like your cool, calm demeanor and how you explain every facet so thoroughly. Great video, Thanks again !

Hi Addy. No dramas, my 13 Calatheas have always been angels, as befits prayer plants! I just thought you might like my recipe for the potting mix I’ve used every repot since I got into Bonsais in January.

Oops! 1third plain shredded coir 1third non-clumping cat litter 1 third medium grade orchid bark. I use a Very weak all purpose liquid feed every watering just like my Bonsais. Bon appetite! God bless your endeavours 🙏✝️ ✌️🇺🇦✌️

Hello, try using pots with a drainage hole so that water does not accumulate at the bottom of the pot

This pot has a drainage hole. This poor thing just went through it.

I was just watching 2 of your vids from 2020, and am wondering if you are still doing the Neem Oil 'soil drench'??

I am! I have started using a soil drench on some of my plants and not others and so far the ones I use it on seem to have less of a problem. It doesn't fully prevent spider mites on the plants I'm using it on but the infections have less of a foothold and are much easier to manage.

that's the mean-girl calathea. lol it's not you or your soil or your plant room because my crimson looks the same way yours does. it just refuses to do anything but sit there and be disagreeable. i wouldn't buy it again--too much drama.
