  • Hang out while I unbox and pot my new calathea: the Louisae, Vandenheckei, and Ecuadoriana. Also, I'll show you where they're going to live. I give a quick tour of my plant room, which is currently filled with more than 25 calathea, post-humidity issues.

I actually think the Ecuadoriana looks very similar to the Warscewiczii! They both have that deeper green, super velvety looking foliage😍 STUNNING

I have what I’m pretty sure is a calathea Maui queen that gets crispy leaf tips no matter what. I give it distilled water just like my others, it’s in an organic African violet mix like the others, and gets organic espoma fertilizer diluted by half. It’s currently sitting out on an east facing porch and is still getting the crispy leaves. Humidity is definitely not the issue as where I live in Atlanta gets tropical conditions from the beginning of May until early October. I think some calathea just crisp no matter what lmao

I think there has been none stop debate about the difference between albertii, louisae and Misto. They are very similar and needs flowers to confirm.

I don't bother covering the holes in nursery pots unless they are weirdly big for some reason. I was always taught to do it in larger outdoor pots but some of their holes are really big and the soil gets washed out otherwise.

Beautiful collection! I’m constantly running my humidifier, but my room is fairly large and since it’s warm out our AC kicks on so it’s a real struggle to keep the levels where I want them to be. I’m always over 50 but I’m beginning to wonder if just inconsistent humidity can cause the crispy tips too. Some days I can keep the levels much higher so I’m thinking the drop to 50 may be an issue. I’d probably need to run two humidifiers to keep it more consistent and my family already protests at my crazy plant lady ways. lol I’d LOVE to hear about your White Star. I’m literally dying for one, but can’t find them in my area, and online is super expensive. It’s GORGEOUS! I recently acquired a Cora but it didn’t ship well and I’ve struggled with it browning up a lot. Did you mention how far back yours are form your windows in the plant room? I have mine pulled in about 2-4 feet from a north facing window but I’ve considered moving some of them a bit closer because they aren’t growing as much as I’d like. New subscriber here, thanks for the great content! Oh yeah! I’d also love a video on Calathea pruning, I can’t figure out where to clip so I don’t stunt new growth? I appreciated your tip about the horizontal growth. 🙌🏻

As always, thank you! I hope these words of appreciation and the likes and subscribe and follow in all your social media are enough to push you in putting out more contents especially for Calatheas. I have decided that I will be a calathea/stromanthe/maranta kind of plant parent Seeing your collection is inspiring.
I guess I like to see Calathea Talk sort of. Individually talking about the features, care tips, propagation, and, challenges. And since it is from your experience, you may arrange them from "friend to diva" if that makes sense. I keep seeing 'Diva' as like the highest difficulty for Majestica or Whitefusion (and I have both), while Roseopicta doesn't get much of that 'diva' attribute. Or it could just be ranking from metrics that you put up. It could be a series or just a 5-min calathea feature.
In short, let's keeping talking about Calatheas :)

Haha! Yes, let me know how they do in the nursery pots! They look stunning in the Ikea planters. And that's probably the best looking Fusion White that I've seen!! Do the root systems on the calathea mature and expand quickly? How would you compare them to say a philodendron, which can outgrow it's pot in a few months. Oh and your little kitty is too cute showing off her summer cut :-)

I saw these on etsy and thought they were super expensive 😂. Btw email ecuagenera USA for some rare calathea. I got a magnifica, veitchiana, grey feather undulata and a picturata from them.

Wonder why you would call your Crimson -Picturata 'Crimson'? Thought it would be Roseopicta 'Crimson'. I know only Picturata 'Argentea" and Picturata 'Van-den-heckei'
