It's really easy to get rid of the hard water stains on the makoyana, just put a tablespoon of lemon juice in a bowl of filtered water and use it to wipe off the leaf with a soft rag, something like a cut up tshirt or recieving blanket will do. The lemon juice is acidic and will break down the hard water whereas regular water won't do anything to the hard water spots! I learned this when I recieved a baby rubber tree in the mail covered in hard water spots. I tried it and it worked like a charm!!!

I started collecting plants since last year and I have 10 calatheas, two new comming soon including the Cora one and I simply love them. I think they are my fav plants because of their foliage and surprisingly they do so well for me. Some I got in good condition and some were also beat up a lot and recover in my home. I am patient and plan to keep them for a long time anyway.

I have 15 calatheas and I strive to have every single one! So glad I found your channel because not many people talk much about calatheas.

I love them, too! 😊 I don't know how many kinds I have but I agree--I want them all. I think now I am realizing that I may have to "make" the space for them with grow lights but I think it will be worth it! 😉

I now have my third Calathea because the first two I think I killed. This one I’m struggling with because I left the moss in it that came in it and it held on to too much water. I have cut away so many leaves on it and also trimmed leaves that had brown crusty leaves, so even though it’s much thinner it looks healthier. This last one I ordered by mail, but my next one I’m going to get at a nursery. I want more than one because first of all I love them, and then I’ve learned that they love being grouped with other Calatheas. I hope I can keep these living and thriving.

I love calatheas, too. Are you using distilled water on them?

Addy Beez I am giving her distilled water. Even though she is thinner because I cut away some leaves, and trimmed some, she has gotten more dry crusty edges, but she is still hanging on and moving all day long. She also bloomed a new leaf too. I will hang in there with her as long as she will hang in there with me. I can’t wait to get another one to keep her company. Thank you so much for all your help.

I just got my first calathea a few days ago despite being a newbie to plants. It’s by far my favourite out of my new plants so I’m really glad I came across your channel. I’m determined not to let my jungle velvet die on me!

Hi Addy! Do you have any tips on how to treat bacterial infections? I bought a baby plug Royal Standard on Etsy and someone has pointed out to me that it looks like its beginning to show possible signs of a bacterial infection 😢

I can’t have calatheas at my house. They all die. But your collection looks amazing.

Calatheas are beatuiful and so difficult. One minute--they look great. The next? On the brink of death.

Hi, Jackie! 😊 They are VERY similar. The Illustris has lime green variegation where the Cora has an almost white/cream variegation instead. Both of the younger leaves produce a bit of pink on the leaf surface but that usually fades quite a bit as the leaf gets older.

Hi, Babette. I get a lot of my calatheas from Etsy sellers but I have also used direct retail web sites like planterina.com and it has worked pretty well for me so far!

Thank you! I finally got rid of the sinus infection. I don't actually know how many calatheas I have right now, as I am usually in the process of killing one somewhere... I repotted my warscewiczii and it will probably never forgive me, so. Hope you're doing well! 😊
