  • I have never been good at styling my houseplants-- and I am trying to change that this week. We've been moving furniture around lately to create a better flow in our house. One of the changes left an empty corner of my living room with a west-facing window so I'm taking the opportunity to get some practice at styling my houseplants.

It looks great, you did a great job. The pot your ficus is so pretty it seems a shame to hide it. I would have set that on the floor and either put another tall plant in the basket or used the basket somewhere else.

I agree! Unfortunately, my dogs would likely try to take a bite of it if it was on the floor. However, once it gets a bit taller--that will be less of an issue. I can't wait!

@@AddyBeez I hear you re dogs! I have to have everything on high tables or shelving otherwise one good whack of a tail will destroy pretty much any plant! 😕

I have a south facing window in my bedroom. Would I be able to keep my calatheas in front of that window if there are shear curtains over the window?

Hi, Lisa. I keep calatheas in my plant room by a south-facing window with sheer curtains right now. In the summer, I do move them back a bit if I notice their leaves starting to curl (trying to protect the leaf surface from the direct heat). The sun tracks further south in the summer where I am so the light is too intense a lot of the time once summer rolls around. And we get about 290-300 days of sunshine per year so it is a lot of light! If you notice any burns on the leaves or any curling, you'll probably want to pull them back. Hope this helps!

@@AddyBeez Thank you for replying. Yes it helps. I am new to calatheas and I am trying to figure out just how close to the window they can be or where the placement in my room should be. Thanks so much. I enjoy all your videos!
