Great info. I am your Argentinian version. Smalll tip: switch your title. Let me lead is not about stopping small battalions from leading battles, it's to allow your ruler to take over relevant IG if monarchy or similar. Wish it worked like you said it did though 😆😆😆
That's right! I can forget at times what my own mods are doing, when they work in the background like that. Thank you for correcting my mistake!
Personally O like it more when colonization on the map is more about drawing lines. The idea that it's rugged and not build up is better represented by the infrastructure and buildings.
I would love to see a mechanic for staking claims, then colonizing where the claims are. I envision the mechanic would also have a means of resolving conflicting claims through payoffs or intimidation, or where they can lead to war, but give everyone an 11th hour option to back down before the guns fire.
14:30 Reduced GPU usage means inefficiencies, I don’t see how a decrease in GPU usage in the new patch is good?
No reduced GPU usage means it runs more effectively
Reduced GPU is bad if it means more CPU use. But *both* are reduced, so that's good - more efficiency with both and my fans run more quietly! :-)
Playing as Russia rn Britain and I have fought so many inconclusive wars that France was left alone to grow its GDP to more than Russia or Britain combined 😭
Peace is great for growth, for sure.
For me industry realism + political and economic changes make the game a bit unplayable on minor nations You need to build additional finance sector buildings, which increase a probability of crisis, but you do not have a lot of resources for this etc.
On the other hand, the 19th century was one of increased economic turmoil for smaller nations, one reason many sought debt relief from larger ones.
You should try Morgenröte, adds so much!
I would like to, but it looks like it would have conflicts with many of my other mods.
@@An_Economist_Plays Yeah, probably, but for itself it is a lot of fun! For me it filled out the gaps that I felt like vic was missing, without going to far away from the core gameplay
I don't know if you need to know this but I'm so glad to see someone that won't just go on an unnecessary conquest spree
It's the main reason why I love the game! War is secondary in my games.

I'm looking forward to the America run, seeing the economic shenanigans you get up to in it.
Indeed. I plan that to be next.
Glad to see another France run! I hope you did some reading on the July Monarchy.
Oh I did, but I am also having to do lots of reading on the history of industrialization, fascinating stuff going on with that area in this run!
15:15 It would be cool if you turn Egypt into some kind of crown colony of France. Like how Victoria was empress of India, whoever rules over France could also be Sultan of Egypt
That would be more possible with a sovereign empire bloc, which allows members to become protectorates after 5 years. The other chance would be if there was a revolt and one side or the other in the revolt allowed a wargoal of making it a subject. I'm choosing to go the latter route.
Fuck yeah! just bought Victoria 3 and found out about the whole investment thing. Your videos convinced me to buy it as you described a wonderful way to have an empire without having to conquer one I dont have iron as netherlands but the Somali states have plenty! and after being kicked out of Africa multiple times (I decided a war with brittain over the gold coast was reallllllly not worth it) investing in iron mines there to get the iron in my market seemed like a wonderful way to get it without having to make colonies and potentially pissing off the Brits or french.
The latest DLC/update has totally put the game into a zone where it needs to be. After this, I'll work on some mods for adding flavor in the Balkans and other areas.

In 1990s there was a joke in Eastern Erope about emigrating to the USA to find work. - What is "best job" in English? - Asbest job. At the time, many buildings in the USA were stripping Asbestos insulation and paid well for the work.
Wear enough protective gear, and it's rewarding work. Seriously. I think some of the best jobs are the dirtiest jobs.
Of course, "protective gear" wasn't much of a thing at the time. Thank goodness for OSHA.
@@ExpedientFalcon The problem with post-communist countries is, that anything that protects workers is considered evil and antifreedom.
So when are you're gonna turn Bonapartiste? Also if you wanna play a culture focused game, i can recommend the Mod "Morgenröte" which includes many mechanics for that and making imo great use to the character system of Victoria 3 which can be lackluster at times.
I'll have to take a look at that separately, as I've got the mods locked in for this run. I'll have to play and film like mad for the next few days so I can finish it... and then start trying new mods! :-)

@@An_Economist_Plays your talk in this episode on the power of the church and how in history the post villa/zapata revolution cracked down on the church inspired a peasant resistance against the government. Was very cool
Did you play Victoria Tweaks Mod? Your opinion on this, would you add to your list after the update? Thank you.
I have not used that one, as it seems to be a bit too overarching, even though it's light fixes for the most part. It requires a number of patches to work and I'd rather try smaller-scoped mods that I can turn off temporarily while awaiting a fix after an update than have one big one that puts my whole game on pause while it gets updated.
Great overview! And a facsinating channel at that. An interesting situation you have noticed at 14:51: meat becoming more expensive on the Brazilian market as a predicted effect of exporting said meat to them. You were surprised, but isn't that a situation sometimes described in real economics? If so, could you please explain what would one call it and how it may be theorized? Also it is interesting if the game has the capacity to actually simulate some other outlier situations like that one. Thank you!
That would be induced demand, where demand goes up because a good is more readily available than before. It could be because their standard of living increased and that triggered a demand for more meat. Not sure which is at play in the game, but one could easily be going hand-in-hand with the other.
Does the load order matter ?
For the PEC, Realistic Industry - compatch comes after those two, and I load towards the end. Great Revision I load also either last or almost last.

@@An_Economist_Plays but terrain is is still a factor in battle I presume?
Oh yes. The mod in question is graphics-only.
France still does this today with West Africa. It's kept a majority of it's African empire after WWII by economic, banking and credit means. Of course that is finally falling apart now but this approach is now commonplace in many ways by other powers.
Indeed it is. And that will be the focus of my next Let's Play series.
@@An_Economist_Plays can’t wait to watch!!!
You know we're just here for the glimpse of shoulder and potential for exposed ankles in the thumbnail.
That's what sells, these days. The raw sexuality of exposed ankles.
The trade power block needs to be nerfed asap. With 25% advance tech bonus for either trade or war you can puppet basically the entire world extremely easily with any major power. You can also go for policing which makes bureaucracy a non issue. I do really like the capitalism buffs, however communist regimes need to be nerfed since any top down system is inherently inefficient. Its like that old roman tale of hadrian threatening to kill any shop owner who raised prices during a recession. And yet they all still did.
I do believe some additional tuning fixes are on the way for 1.7.4. We saw some good nerfs in 1.7.3, so they're on the right track, I think. And 1.8 is going to be another tuning and performance update, like 1.6, so I expect it'll be even smoother then.
How long should powers like France and USA wait to form a bloc? It hampers building a formal empire in the beginning as infamy decay from running excess diplomacy is strong and it would likely be hard to generate mandate until you have some automatic members.
At the same time, it just rips off the bandage at the start, deals with all the pain up front. In my next video, I do some aggressive bloc-building as France and show why it makes good sense to form a bloc from the beginning with France. For the USA, it may be best to wait until it's got some strength so it can work at reducing infamy after taking the Mexican North and making it the USA's Southwest. There's also a question about it joining the UK's bloc and then getting strong enough to challenge it for leadership...
What would be a good power bloc type for a México or Spain run?
Mexico has a lot of laws to pass to get to where it needs to be - I would try ideological union. In the game, the AI has Spain go with religious or trade when it forms, I think either of those make sense, but trade only if it's able to start industrializing.
23:34 is the quietest yell I’ve ever heard. Great video!

Hey man, thanks a lot for all the useful information. I've got a question, are you planning to do a detailed tutorial for Vic3, covering how to industrialise, increase GDP, build up the industry without bankrupting the country and such? Since the game has changed a lot.. I like the way you explain things plainly and give examples, that's also how I teach.. it'd be nice to see you making a good in depth beginner friendly tutorial for the new patch :)
It does look like 1.7 makes so many changes, *I* would benefit from doing a tutorial!

@@An_Economist_Plays you're a star! Great news for all of us !
I thoroughly enjoy your content, particularly the expertise you bring to gaming, akin to The Civil Engineer who creates city-building videos. Having followed your channel for a few weeks now, I find myself sometimes struggling to discern the specific focus of each video. Would it be feasible to consider numbering your videos as episodes? This approach would provide clarity, allowing viewers to easily track, for instance, the progression of the France playthrough across its five episodes. Thank you for your efforts, and please keep up the excellent work.
I do have them ordered in their playlists, which I have maintained that way. Putting episode numbers on videos is something that turns away new viewers once the number is greater than one. Having said that, that statement has the most impact shortly after a video release. Going back to older videos and making series/episode notes shouldn't impact views, so that's something I can work on.
