  • For the people to rise, the old elites must accept their new place in the order of things. No longer as overlords, but as servants. We close the chapter on Mexico's age of caudillos and look forward to a brighter future.

    Hello sir. I am new to this channel, and I have been thoroughly enjoying your playthroughs of Victoria 3. You are much more reserved and jollyier than most other Vicky 3 players I have seen. Thank you!

    the fact that i learned about convergence theory in my macro econ class and now im seeing it take place in your game with you catching up to the major powers GDP and GDP/ capita due to them stagnating and you booming is very interesting

      A large part of that is the massive series of wars that engulfed the other powers, similar to how the USA emerged at the top of the ladder after WW1

    The problem with mass conscription is the -5% morale loss, i still don't think it is the best solution, usually I prefer the National Militia, or
    Professional Army

      When Great Wars become a thing in Victoria 3, mass conscription will be nearly mandatory for any nation wanting to survive one. Sheer weight of numbers will overcome a -5% morale loss, especially if they're using machine guns, gas, and flamethrowers.

    I'm in IT, specifically programming, so I don't have to wait on server installs, but I do have to wait forever on compilation and CI. Fun times.

      I hear ya, man. I had one incident after a hack where I was rebuilding the email server while the lead dev had to re-code and compile a new front end. We were both there all night and the next day.

    Does the US not have any claims on your territories other than Alaska? Do they not have a major alliance or defense pact? Usually they are much more aggressive.
    A change in army model is overdue for a nation with the 4th largest GDP. Doubling your standing army will bring you even with the US and actually reduce the odds of them starting a war. In addition, other nations will make more generous offers to sway you in their plays.
    The US will still likely declare a play for Alaska, and that's when you take all the splits states from them. And liberate New Africa and/or New England, etc.
    But I guess you've already played through this game so I'll see what you actually did soon enough.

    • @An_Economist_Plays
      @An_Economist_Plays  Před měsícem

      They totally have claims on other states, but it's the purchase of Alaska event that keeps firing that's cratering the relationship. At present, I've got a trade deal and a defensive alliance with the USA, which is keeping the relationship going long enough for me to take action.
      And yes, Episode 9 is in the can and will be released soon. :-D

      @@An_Economist_Plays Having a defensive alliance with a nation that has multiple claims on your territory may be possible in Victoria 3 but doesn't seem realistic in this context. Would Mexicans willing fight to protect the US? Can the US be trusted to protect Mexico in this scenario? I think not.
