  • After starting a game of Civ 1 and then another of Civ 6 and realizing I was having fun in BOTH games, I asked myself, "Which one is more fun and why?" And the answer to that question points the way towards some expectations we can have for Civ 7.

I grew up playing Civilization I back in the 90's. I would really like to have the "We Love the President" celebration, zooming to the cities to see details of it (with images like in Alpha Centauri), that catchy 90's computer music in the case of city displeasement or loving parade, and the council like we had in Civ 2. This last one could be improved with AI, so it would feel like we really deal with advisors and they could provide real advise based on our current game, while they conflict among each other for our attention and GDP.
Also, what I miss the most is adjusting the percentage of the GDP destined to education/science, taxes and entertainment, here there is room for improvement.
The Wall Street of Civ 3 that provides interest based on the amount of your treasure was also very nice.
It is very interesting to see an economist who loves Civilization :)

It's a great series, I loved the Civ before I got into the Economics. :-) And, yes! The advisors! Lots of lolz with them!

Civilization adjuster would be nice as you said. If you don't like let's say religion, just switch focus to something else, maybe with a penalty but let's give a choice. Earlier civ games had the issues that everyone were identical, now everything is unique - but that also kills it for me a bit. Victory condition is a one thing, but civs speciality is something else. + bring back more 'spicy' leaders (looking at you civ 1) ;)

I love Old World - the narrative events are so much fun and enhance the game. I wish more Civ people would give that a go.

Indeed. Then I'd have more reason to play it for my channel. All about the views! :-)

I think dynamic rulers would be an interesting and ambitious move for the series, but it would very interesting if the espionage system incorporated assassination plots against your rulers. I can see a system where if you are civically more “liberal,” then elections are triggered, whereas if you’re more authoritarian and influenced by the soft power of a non-authoritarian civ, then the basis of your regime is more prone to collapse; I.e color revolutions, etc. That could be an interesting late game addition as you segue into the Atomic Era.

Sort of like having Victoria 3 - style Interest Groups? I like that thought! Go rolling on to the finish and, uh-oh, there's a large part of your population that wants you to do something differently... and if it's a 50/50 split, which way do you lead your people?

@@An_Economist_Plays Yes, that would be a very interesting concept either in the game or for a mod. Loving your videos as usual, sir.

It took me a good 3 years to fully embrace civ 6 after making the transition from civ 5, and I am really enjoying 6 to this day. Looking forward to civ 7, My prediction is it drops in January 2025

Jan 2025 would be great, but I'm thinking October so as to be positioned for holiday release.

    1. Get rid of constant game lags when playing online.
    2. Ranked lobby
    3. Lobby pick/ban system
    4. Proper turn timer
    5. Anti cheat or at least a report system since civ5 lobby is flooded with cheaters atm

Indeed! If Civ 7's biggest feature was fixes for multiplayer, that alone would be huge enough.
