  • If you want to play Victoria 3 with more historical color and flavor, start with how you yourself play the game. In this video, I cover historical justifications and motivations for imperialism and how, as a player, I try to limit myself even when the game mechanics are giving me a free hand to do certain things. It's all about having the right philosophy when playing.

About dyes. The synthetic refinery tech is not that deep into the tech tree and is one you can quite easily snatch up quite early. It makes a lot of sense for germany because you have good access to sulphur.

Hi; just came across your channel while looking for Victoria 3 content and enjoying your (what the kids might call) "roleplaying" approach to the game - painting the map is fine, but I much prefer to try and play "reasonable". Looking forward to your take on the 1.7 patch with all the economical changes that it will bring. 🙂

Thanks a lot! And I have heard things about the 1.7 patch that have huge exploits only judicious roleplay will keep us from bending history with! :-D

The unlimited naval range is one of the things that I'm kind of disappointed about with the game right now. If I'm not mistaken, one of the big reasons for the American expansion into the Pacific was to use the islands as strategic coaling stations for trade with China. I wish that could be better simulated

That might be something that calls for a logistics mechanic in the game, not sure how it could be modded in. But, yes, we need all the great powers to be fuming over coaling stations!

Good video. I would argue that you aren't paranoid if "they" (the AI nations) are really trying to get you. In that case paranoia becomes foresight and planning which you clearly demonstrate in this and previous videos.

What if others also want a piece of Suez, like the British and French.

Then they'll have to get in line. When I'm done with it, I'll let them have a turn. If they're nice. And they have bigger armies than me.

A better last P instead of paranoia could be 'Projection'

It would be better... but my latest playthrough was 100% paranoia-driven once I got to the world stage! :-)
