  • It's the early 1900s, and I want to have a great war... except... I can't... Not like we did in Victoria 2. Still, I try to have the greatest war possible and get some kicks while I'm at it!
    Cool new mod:

    I keep my mod list in the #victoria3 channel on my Discord, I'll be updating it soon to include this one.

    great video. really enjoyable to hear you talk about the state of great wars and what you want to see. Fully agree as well on the national movements. it should be in there.

      The latest 1.7 dev diary hints at adding wargoals via events... if I read that correctly... that would be outstanding to see.

    I was very pleased to hear you say that you are looking for a new challenge with a smaller country. I really enjoyed a recent game I played and thought it would be interesting to see how you played the same start. So here's the challenge:
    Start as Hudson's Bay Company and become a great power. Have the largest economy in the world (ideally before the end of the 19th century). Accomplish this goal primarily by becoming the best country in the world to live in and not by rampant imperialism. Liberalize your laws and the world will come to you. Welcome vast waves of immigrants. As the true home of the free, claim the Statue of Liberty as your own (they should start the war for you). Etc.
    I had a great time playing Hudson's Bay this way so I hope you give it a try. It should also make an interesting contrast to your future USA run.

      I am actually considering something similar, but as Mexico. I've written a history of Mexico, so I have much to offer - as well as to guide me - in playing that nation.

      @@An_Economist_Plays Mexico would be interesting and I'm sure you could teach us the viewers a lot about Mexican history (something I have limited knowledge of). I would not call Mexico a small country though, it dwarfs HBC in GDP and population.
      I'm not sure how easily Mexico can become the most desirable immigration target in the world. California is great but most of Mexico lacks arable land. USA and Brazil will likely draw almost all the mass migration away from you. To stop the USA from doing this you'll want to take the Statue of Liberty away from them, but NY is a long way from the Rio Grande (and yet so close to Ontario where I live).
      I'm sure it will be interesting whatever you choose to play so I look forward to the next series.

      @ThomasDega My goals are survival, independence, and the rights of man. Then people in general, once we get the women's suffrage movement! 😁

      @@An_Economist_Plays Hmm, France had "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité", your goals for Mexico seem to lack the equality part. An interesting video might be to contrast the American view of freedom and equality vs other views.
      For example does equal access to education and health care mean it is provided by the state (public) or that you are free to purchase as much education and health care as you can afford? How does this difference impact SOL, GDP growth, immigration, radicalism, etc. How free are you if you can't afford these things?

    So what would the foreign policy of France in this version be would they focus on more French control over Central Europe between Prussia and the austrian-hungarian empire or keep dismantling the Russian empire or dealing with the Italian peninsula

    • @An_Economist_Plays
      @An_Economist_Plays  Před 2 měsíci +1

      With Russia getting knocked out of Great Power range, consolidation of Germany and Austria would be in order, to seal up that part of the continent. If they appealed to the UK for aid, then that would likely kick off a global war. Without Russia to backstop France on the continent, victory over Germany and Austria would be quick... and a massive number of Chinese batallions would pour into India...

      Diplomacy is what I want for 1.8. Adding nations to wars and adding goals to ongoing wars are two key areas for better historicity.

    Victoria 3 is so fucking babby mode arcade mana game compared to Victoria 2 with HPM mod lol

    • @An_Economist_Plays
      @An_Economist_Plays  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I'll respectfully disagree. There are mechanical improvements in it that not only go beyond the previous game, but they allow modders to go beyond HPM. I'm in the 1920s and the global economy is working. Victoria 2 would have global coal and iron shortages crippling everyone.
