DANIELSON, SANDIN PELLIKKA, & PLAYOFF WHAT-IFS - Winged Wheel Podcast - May 1st, 2024
Just because the season is over doesn't mean Red Wings fans aren't excited about hockey, thanks to the likes of Nate Danielson and Axel Sandin Pellikka.
Tune in as we start by discussing Nate Danielson's offensive increase as he moved from the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Portland Winterhawks, whether he can make the Detroit Red Wings next season, his future as a potential 2C alongside Dylan Larkin, how he'd fit with players like Lucas Raymond or Alex DeBrincat, & more (4:45). After that, Axel Sandin Pellikka's celebrations as Skelleftea won the SHL title, his future as a high-end right-handed defenseman to support Moritz Seider on that side, what his timeline is to land in Detroit based on what Steve Yzerman said, & more (14:30).
Next, an update on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including Detroit's Wild Card race rivals all failing miserably, how the LCA would've done with playoff hockey, what's next for the Rangers, Hurricanes, Bruins, Leafs, Panthers, Golden Knights, Stars, Avalanche, Oilers, Kings, Canucks, and Predators (21:30), PLUS discussion on Vegas' LTIR salary cap drama (50:00).
Finally, our 2024 NHL Draft Prospect Profile on Russian star Ivan Demidov (56:45) & lots more before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:01:55) - enjoy!

RED WINGS MIDSEASON RECAP ft. Max Bultman (BEAT TAMPA) - Winged Wheel Podcast - Jan. 21st, 2024
I think we have good Drfensive prospects and we have good prospects who can play and need the Experience and see what happens.
I would love to see the Wings play GR and see what prospects are ready in a 3 out of 5 game series. Don’t matter who wins only how the players play against a NHL roster.
I am not going to dog the Leafs because they are I the playoffs and Detroit is not.
Petry is going to lose them most important game
If Defense is a concern for the forward position then Kane should be called out as well as the younger players because it’s a hypocritical decision to call out a player and not a player who is older.
I have a feeling we have young Kane in Nate
Veleno should be traded he is not good enough. 20 something points for a season he was in the top six and didn’t get any real value from it. He should be gone, Ras should have been another year in the CHL rather than being Rushed because he seems to have not learned anything.
They need to play the young players who can play and not worry about the playoffs and get some experience and let them play and get better and then get in the playoffs and make it happen longer than they will if they sign vets who are going to make the playoffs harder for the team when the young players are trying to get experience and they miss out because SY is not doing himself any favors by holding back certain players that need to be played because he thinks vets will get them there and it didn’t happen last season
I have seen players who were better in the NHL than they were in the AHL and great players in the AHL who have struggled in the NHL. Pretty much strange.
SY was saying that he would do a bridge with Raymond and then he showed up and he doesn’t want to do a bridge and don’t want to lose him.
Kane could ask for 3 years and get injured this season coming and he would be on LTIr is that worth it like Datsyuk i can see holding him for the last season rather than getting Nielsen
“Big game James” had me dying 😂😂😂
Oh the troughs…
Kane is a lot of offense to lose yes, but he's also a blackhole defensively and a light breeze knocks him off pucks. I think he is being HIGHLY over valued because of who he is and what he has done which is deserved, but a lot of his downside is getting ignored because he grossly overperformed our offensive expectations. Burger, Mazur, Kasper, and Danielson are the players we can use combined to overcome and surpass the absence of a patty kane. I could be dead wrong and he could have been that wind in our sails, but I doubt it.
That's 4 players you are talking about to replace the offense from Kane and his 1 roster spot though. I think they do need to start working some of these guys in to the roster but I'll be shocked if more than 2 of those guys are on the team next year, especially with Johansson being another rookie on the back end that is no longer waiver exempt and needs a spot.
The way you don't box out upcoming prospects on the roster is to move out 3-4 rostered players (i.e. Copp, Veleno, Fabbri and/or Berggren). Replace those spots with one qualified trade candidate (i.e. Ericksson Ek), one free agent (i.e. Marchessault) and 2 prospects (i.e. between Danielson, Mazur, Kasper). For my part, I would like to see Danielson and Mazur make the team and leave Kasper in GR to run a full season as their 1C. Danielson's hockey IQ will likely be his difference maker. As for Mazur, bring the grit.
What does shrink the game mean
I remember draft day last year clearly. I remember when Danielson was selected, the WWP reacted as though the oxygen had been sucked out of the room. My, what a difference a year makes.
I also wasn't very high on the pick the moment it was made. At 9, I wanted any of Moore, Benson, Yager, Dvorsky or ASP. ASP was a no-brainer at 17, still can't believe he fell that far, but I wouldn't have minded Perreault at that spot either. Crazy he fell to 23 as well.
Not all of us. 😉
@@WingedWheelPodcastthis is true. However, I think it is safe to say that your co hosts were less than thrilled with the Danielson pick.
10 points in the last 3 games for Danielson
The Winnipeg Jets are currently suffering from the Curse of the Atlanta Thrashers.
Brad the human bobblehead! 😂
No, we would have done better than the Capitals. They are so bad lol. I am soooo tired of the prospect talk. There is little to no guarantee they’ll be any good in the pros.
Or…. Boston chokes twice after being up 3-1. Please!
Im not exactly floridas #1 fan, but i dont think theres anything stopping them this year. Theyre bullies and i kinda love it. Id rather detroit be more on the bully end like FLA, BOS, OTT, but as it stands were definitely not
Its starting to get hard to be excited about prospects, knowing we likely wont see them as early as some of these kids on other teams. That aside, I am beyond excited for what this team looks like with Razor, Nate, Larkin, Cat, ASP, and Buchelnikov. Talk about FIRE POWER
God did this age awful
I know that this is not a popular opinion, but I do not want to see any russians on this team until russia as a country changes. And no, this is not "politics". This is many of these hockey plaeyrs actually vocally and actively supporting the regime and the war. I used to respect Ovechkin as a player until I found out that he licks putin´s a$# eveey chance he gets. Again, this is not politics--people are dying as a result of an unjust war that regime started. Playing in the NHL is a privilege. The league should shut the door to players from a pariah country which throwns international law to the toilet and is proud of it. Most other sports fedearions and leagues have done that already. NHL must follow--it will not lose that much money.
This is a political comment, and who cares, it's a sports game full of mercenaries, just like any other league. Now keep buying merchandise and attend those games!
Thanks for reminding everyone 3 times that your political argument wasn't political. Be sure to speak for everyone who disagrees with you next, that's usually the move.
@@drugsmadilla i dont expect you to understand. This is too complicated for you, apparently. War and killing of civillians is not politics. And, if Yserman fills the roster with Russisns, i will stop buying merchandize and attending games. A small gesture, I know.
@@brandonchalloner9218 your sarcasm is misplaced. I know I’m not going to convince anyone. But being a hockey multimillionaire or fan does not exempt anyone from being a decent human being. But that is too difficult to grasp, I guess.
@@pz29 looks like I'm psychic. Thank you for doing exactly as I said and subsequently putting words in the mouths of those you disagree with. I must have missed the part where anyone argued about money or sport in the first place. I guess I should start with the premise that to disagree with me must mean one is lower than a 'decent human being'. Is my sarcasm better guided now? You're doing great.
Went to the Griffins game tonight. After a decent first period, in the dying seconds the Ice Hogs converted on the PP. From there, it was all downhill. A lack of effort, competing for loose pucks, poor passing, and a few goals that im sure Cossa wants to have back dominated the rest of the game. Need a big bounce back Friday. On the upside, I did Catch a shirt during the T shirt toss. Solid episode as usual boys. LGRW 🐙 🏒 🤘
How did Russian factor play out last draft? 3 in first 12, so forget about Russian factor. We have only 1 ,% to draft at 5 . Let's hope Lindstrom still available
Sorry dude we’re not drafting at 5
Michkov slid to 7 to the Flyers. Top two or three player on talent or could argue that.
@@user-rw9rs6di9n that was because they weren’t sure if he’d even end up playing and he went seven well most likely be 15
Speaking of development.. What's up with Big Elmer Soderblom? He made the team the previous year, and he scored a wicked goal against Montreal. Then he didn't fit due to tie goes to the veteran issue. Then I hear Cleary say he's got an effort issue sometimes on the Red & White Authority last year(I believe 🤔). And I can't stand the guy, but I've got Mike Babcock's, "You gotta be an 'everydayer'" saying stuck in my head when I think of that. Is his attitude/effort improving or has he kinda stalled in his development?
I think his issue is his defense and body development. He needs to add more mass to his body without sacrificing his skating He is not skilled enough to play on the top 6, but maybe become something on the bottom 6. He is always a longshot to making it since he is a very late round draft pick He has some flashes but not consistent enough. And he is not doing that well in the AHL either which does not help his case Personally I think he might spend another year in the AHL and then head back to Sweden. Especially when more younger draft picks are arriving in the AHL.
@nickfury8973 I tell ya what though, the last play I saw him make, he tried to flip the puck over the defender and go around..... almost made it but didn't. If he would've, it would've been all over highlights and he mightve had a better chance to stay up. Instead it was a giveaway lol.....
Okayyyy gents!! Great pod and a strange but nice time!
So many good young studs on this griffins team, can’t wait to see them play Friday
That's pretty cool you're out that way. Considering we're all waiting to see these guys come up, it'd be pretty cool to see em all beforehand. For all ya know, it could be basically a future all star team
Danielson has two more assist so far tonight as well.. He's gonna be a stud!
Ended the night with 4pts (1G, 3A)
He looked so damn good in preseason last year it feels like there's no way he won't get the raymond treatment
Double OT winner from Yzerman vs St Louis was in 96' , i believe.
In Detroit.. CZcams the clip if ya have to and watch the crowd at the Joe rock as Gary Thorne goes off
what was that audio @ 22:13?
Wow brad and I agree for once that this year . Must be the end of the world 😂 trading up this season 110% if I’m wings gm. Should be the Last chance to add a top end prospect in the draft for a while . No dmen though we need to add an elite forward
Why’s there prospect profiles 😂like your sits around watching games of these kids
Im always curious about player psychology when it comes to success or lack of. For example the Leafs in the playoffs. I think Detroit has some of that lack of mental discipline as well because a lot of years they refuse to get physical, stand up and be a woe is me team that's not fair. It's just not starting to slowly go away but I can still see exists at times and I've never understood why but it's so damn weird when non physical talent hinders teams/players.
Watch this be our moment to win the draft lottery. I'd be happy as hell to draft 5th. Also, Winnipeg's GM is on record saying they're never going to "rebuild".
Seider goes for 8x7
8x9 or more
@@Tyler-ml6ipThe Hanifin deal really helped Steve Yzerman. Seider will be 8x8 tops, likely 7.5mil
@@marvikor Owen Power got 9
Nope. You don't bridge talent like those two. Raymond has shown growth in leadership this past year. Seider is Seider.
If they get called Mammoths, they should immediately sign fat phil kessel
When you are still a young player all that matters is your salary. But you say that the cup matters.
Andrew Gibson had very good points actually Brad considering he was behind Karki and Kirill and never played on the power play the team had to many offensive defensman so they made him become a stay at home d man
How does Squirely Dan say "Utah Mamoths" lol
If you are Raymond and Seider why on earth would you sign a long term deal after this collapse. Team has no heart and is unwatchable. Fire Yzerman and Lalonde.
I have never seen Labatt at a hoedown
Brad hates Gibson almost as much as Cleveland
Yzerman should trade a #1 center. Whatever it takes. This team can't win without it.
Anyone else here think the wings likely wouldve done more damage to NYR than the caps did? I really dont think theyd have swept us 😂
They would have murdered us. We didn’t deserve to make it, we suck.
Give Mo and Ray matching 8x8 deals.
