    You could literally see Raymond do things, certain movements, etc, on the ice that Kane regularly does. It was noticeable that he took things from Kane and implemented them into his game.

    WWP, great episode as usual.
    Here's my 2 cents. Overall a very good season, even if my heart can't handle their roller coaster. I'm not a fan of dump and chase hockey, we don't have the players for that style.
    Lark, most impressed by his continued development to improve his two way game. I find it hard not to state that today he shows that he is 1C, impressed. We have known for several years that he is the team's best player.
    Raz, the only thing I can complain about is that he should shoot more. We Swedes are a little like we are trained to be. However, once he gave up, and made his own decisions, it ended with a hat trick. It will be very interesting to see what he and best friend Rasmus Dalin do this summer. Then like many other athletes, he has difficulty maintaining the weight over a long season. He handled the year very well and it was clearly noticeable in the last 3 parts of the season.
    Cat, had no expectations of him. Would like to see him get stronger around the wall. He checks by being there, takes away the first quick pass or surfaces, sure. RW has close to 0 players who can lock the puck in the O-zone, except for Lark and Raz.
    Kane, sign him sure. However, the possibility is small. I entered 40% during his closing press. Interprets it as it is about Term and Who he should play with. Might be a bridge too much for S.Y to carry out. Can improve by moving his feet instead of standing still in the O zone, as the opponents already give him so much space.
    Veleno, took initiative in the first part of the season to become more invisible as it suffered towards its end. He has speed, strength, some IQ. However, he lacks all the tools to win the puck around the wall and he loses pretty much all of them. Hard to say if it's a player question or coaching/system question. Guessing, both here.
    The rest of the team is a mixture of depth players and some surplus fat. The depth we got this year is perhaps our achilles heel as the team still has an extremely difficult time playing defense that keeps the NHL st. There is the occasional gem among these players, sure.

      Red Wings only had more regulation wins than 6 teams in the entire league. 27 regulation wins isn't going to get it done. As close as it seems they were.. they are further away than we think especially if some of the games they won this year go the other way next year..
      Arizona Coyotes had one more regulation win than Detroit for some perspective. Wings were closer to the bottom than it seems

      Could have Atleast 3 gems at forward and need more RH Dmen but we have some that should compete for a spot because why wait 3 years and try for the playoffs and then add the young players and they are going to miss the playoffs and get use to playing and make the playoffs again, just move up the players that are ready and get them playing so we can get to the playoffs and stay competitive longer than wait for them wanting to be traded because every team is playing the young players and we watch them rot in GR

    To me, letting an 8 point playoff cushion slip away coinciding with Larkin's injury takes nothing away from the season and only leaves the season as a massive success because THEY HAD A LATE 8 POINT PLAYOFF CUSHION. The team is BETTER than the final results, whereas a lot of times teams will get hot late when nothing matters and cover up for crap play most of the year. And that with playing 2nd/3rd string goalies almost the whole year.

      They only had 27 regulation wins this year. Only 6 teams had less. Arizona Coyotes had more regulation wins than Detroit for example. I know this kinda sounds lame but I've been looking forward to this off-season because with the results of this season both as a team and individual players performance wise I think Yzerman and the rest of his team really have their work cut out for them to make next season as optimal as possible to make their playoff contention more viable than this year was. Will anyone else be brought up? Who will be let go or resigned? Mo and Raymond contract talks. Will any FAs be signed? If those questions weren't tough enough you have all be compounded by the salary cap and this is where I hope I see some real high IQ Yzerman problem solving and will it be adequate.

    Did the Wings win a single game this year without Larkin in the lineup?

  • @dj4aces
    @dj4aces Před 25 dny

    Lyon, I think, was leaned on far too heavily (out of necessity), but I thought he was fine. Sure, he let in a couple really bad goals, good for a couple squeakers a week, but most of his bad nights, the team in front of him let him down. Husso didn't look great most games, but I hope next year is different? Reimer can go duck pucks for another team.
    Lalonde, I have no major complaints. He needed, as stated, to get this team ready to start on time, and he needs a few fundamental changes (unwillingness to change goaltenders mid-apocalyptic period, unwilling to use a timeout, etc), but Lalonde was good overall. Yzerman filled our ranks with whoever was available while our prospects ripen (and overripen, in the case of Edvinsson, because damn he looked good), but giving Holl three years was bad. I was a defender of Holl too, saying that maybe he'd be a better player for us without eleventy thousand members of the Toronto media breathing down his neck. Man... was I wrong.
    Just a couple thoughts on the roster.

    • @johnnyslokes2712
      @johnnyslokes2712 Před 25 dny

      They didn't have much of choice but to lean on Lyon. I think they fooled themselves thinking goaltending would be fine.
      Lalonde isn't a good coach. He's too soft and laid back and a lot of his comments towards the end of the year just don't sit right with a lot of fans.
      I get they were expected to finish towards the bottom of the division but they had like a 10 point cushion and there were some people, I know me included that had them 3rd or 4th in the division. Just feels like the team gave up on the coach.. I could be wrong though

    Kane puts butts in the seats and as Yzerman said, gives the team "swagger" - 4 years is certainly not out of the question BUT Kane was also talking fit and by that I think he wants to either have Larkin as the C or the Wings will need to find a way to get him one.

    • @nickfury8973
      @nickfury8973 Před 25 dny

    I'd be much more excited if this team looked more like Montreal as far as a rebuild. They have a few core players that they are building around but they are filled in with a whole lot more rookies, prospects - that are getting playing time and are learning the way to play and maybe win in the NHL. Slavkofsky has come a long way these two years and are going to become elite before long. We all saw Lane Hutson play the last 2 games of the year - he will be a great rookie next year - and they have lots of those types or players. Sorry but that is a lot better than Petry, Chiarot, Copp, David Perron. Of course, we have those guys on contracts for a few years still. I don't know what you mean about people not complaining about Petry - it seemed like all year long - they never let up. No way should he be top 4 at this point in his career. Goaltending is the weakest part. I have said it before - imagine what this team would have been like if it weren't for Kane and Lyon - neither of whom were expected at the beginning of the season. Playing with a lead is something that they have to learn to do. So many times they had significant leads - 4-1 early - and let teams back - that is inexcusable - they need to learn how to put teams away early.

    Look I know u cannot just get a full roster of all star players and good players that you want. If u could, every team would be really good. But this entire lineup is underwhelming. Every single player is below 50 pts except larkin raymond kane debrincat. Minus those 4 players ever single player on the team is the definition of meh. I do not see anything changing for a while. We have so much money tied up in these extremely average players. If u look at how good the really good teams are, The wings have a very long road before they will be competing for a cup. Yzerman will be on his 6th year. I look at the good teams and see the puck management and stick handling and how good their defense is and how involved the defense is on the offense. There is 0 creativity on our offense....none. no one knows where to be and when to be there or how to get in tough gritty spots for scoring opportunities and if we lose kane it will be worse. And we bring the younger guys up we will actually regress next season. So I dunno what people think is going to be happening but until we get some actual talented guys who work really hard. We are stuck in this boat of mediocrity for a long time. The offense wasn't actually bad earlier in the season. I have no clue how everyone just forgot how to play hockey since February. No one seems to be able to pass correctly for even handle a pass for that matte. To much bobbling of the puck and turnovers of these ridiculous long stretch passes. I do not know what this team is going to do or what the answers are. I have no solutions in sight. I wish I knew. But the fact that yzerman has been here 5 years and we only had 2 of his drafts playing (3 finally when they brought edvinson up) since he got here in 2019. A complete rebuild should take no more then 4-6 years, by the 6th year u should at least be making playoffs. Considering how bad holland left things inhave given yzerman my patience and benefit of the doubt. And seeing them blow a 9pt lead and missing playoffs was a disaster. They have got to set the goal and expectation for playoffs next year. It will be 6 years next season and they have got tonat least make playoffs next season. If they do not, I will be questioning what is going on.

    It kills me to see how Tampa, Boston, and Toronto - even Washington and Pittsburg to a lesser degree - lose good players but are able to reload on the run while Detroit languishes in constant rebuild mode. Also, although he made the playoffs in his rookie year, I fret that Dylan Larkin - even though he’s in his prime - might be one of those higher-end players that won’t make the playoffs again. I hope my feeling is dead wrong, but even if he and his Red Wing teammates are able to make the playoffs in his era, as far as a Stanley Cup is concerned - IMPOSSIBLE.

      Those teams have stacked top end talent and/or an elite goalie. We don’t have multiple 100 plus point scorers or multiple 40 plus goal scorers. That is the offensive side. Think our scouting overvalued the 200 foot game too much and undervalued scoring in offensive players that needed to develop on defense. Prospects could be “not a net negative” but they didn’t have the game to be a net positive offensively IMO.

    • @pjpredhomme7699
      @pjpredhomme7699 Před 25 dny

      those are completely different situations. Those teams that you mentioned - are built around very high end core players - Stamkos, Kuch, Hedman, Vas - in Tampa, Marchand, Pasta, Mcavoy, Lindholm in Boston, Marner, Mathews, Nylander in Toronto - those are all elite talents that are the core of those teams. The rest of complimentary that the teams are built around . Detroit does not have those types of players - It is hoped that Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson are going to be those types of players so far they certainly look as if they could be - but they are not in that category yet. Those elite players on those teams are core -and the rest they fill in around. That is what Yzerman is trying to do - he still needs a couple centers and a goalie. If they can get those three players - I think you can consider Larkin as one - of those - so they are another really high end center and goalie away. You get those two - and then they will be much more in the same caliber and they will be that for a much longer time because they are younger obviously.
