  • There's a lot for Steve Yzerman to take care of in Hockeytown this offseason, and the top of the list (even higher than Patrick Kane) belongs to Lucas Raymond & Moritz Seider's upcoming contracts.
    Tune in as we discuss what those deals may look like as they come off their ELCs, whether anything other than an 8 year term is advisable, how Dylan Larkin's cap hit may factor in, why Compher, Copp, Perron, & other contracts matter, & more (3:35). We also provide some Detroit Red Wings updates as the likes of Larkin, Lyon, Petry, Raymond, Derek Lalonde, and Alex Westlund are off to the World Championship, and Andrew Gibson of the Soo Greyhounds signed his ELC and will join the Grand Rapids Griffins (27:30).
    Next, we give an update on the start of the Grand Rapids playoff run as Jonatan Berggren sealed the Game 1 win, backstopped by Sebastian Cossa and coached by Dan Watson (34:35) before giving an NHL Draft Lottery update (including Detroit's chances of winning and who will end up with Macklin Celebrini) (35:50).
    After that, our 2024 NHL Draft Prospect Profile series continues with Zeev Buium (Shai's brother) (41:20).
    We then take a look at the Stanley Cup Playoffs (Marner, Nylander, & the Leafs are at it again) (48:25), pay our respects to the great Bob Cole (1:00:25), & lots more before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:03:35) - enjoy!

    I would put Husso on LTIR all next season and buyout Holl. That would give the Wings enough cap space to sign Raymond and Seider to long term deals and should be enough to sign Kane and Stamkos. Trade the other RFAs for draft picks. Danielson and Kasper should be on the team next year too.

    Im always curious about player psychology when it comes to success or lack of. For example the Leafs in the playoffs. I think Detroit has some of that lack of mental discipline as well because a lot of years they refuse to get physical, stand up and be a woe is me team that's not fair. It's just not starting to slowly go away but I can still see exists at times and I've never understood why but it's so damn weird when non physical talent hinders teams/players.

  • @gothaminsanity
    @gothaminsanity Před 21 dnem

    A player who wants to extend max term at his point of rebuilding imo needs to take a paycut already
    The cup window could probably be in that 8 years timespan and if you want to have a competitive team with a good overall game, the team needs money to spend on
    Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa already have that narrow cap space and struggle with contending
    Edit: I think 18mil AAV for both is still reasonable

    A bit of a rant here but, SY/Lalonde have successfully been able to artificially push down Berggren's value to the point where it now is coming in an average of 1.1m AAV on ACGM on Capfriendly. The 2 players I have looked at the closest (and compared) in the past 3 years are Berggren and Raymond (NHL, AHL and internationally). Based on skill level, both offensively and defensively, Berggren should pull 75-80% AAV compared to Raymond.
    I seriously doubt he will be sticking around. Which sucks.
    What kind of AAV / term do you guys think Berggren realistically could get to not leave?

    • @jackconrad2667
      @jackconrad2667 Před 21 dnem

      It wouldn’t take a lot of money to keep him. Probably 3 mil. The big issue was actually playing him. If they offer a bridge deal and a roster spot on the wings. Not rapids. He will probably stay. And by the way Raymond is probably getting 8 ish mil. Give or take.

Does he have a 200 foot game? His entire game is just meh...he is another joe veleno and i would say joe is better. And where is bertuzzi now, on the same Toronto team that is going to have to unload at least 1 if not more of their top 3 to even get past the first round again, stuck on a team that may be rebuilding soon thanks to piss poor management and lack of heart from their "leaders". Yzerman knows what he's doing. He'll get razor and mo resigned because he knows they're an integral part of this team going forward, he's not going after some bloated f.a. at the expense of the future like Stamkos or resigning Kane if he wants the farm because both those players won't likely be around during a cup run, and he'll find a way to off load players that are dead weight combined with draft picks because they have a stable of prospects and they don't have to worry about losing a top pick now that they are on the cusp of getting in the playoffs. He built the prospects, was patient with guys like edvinson and Kasper who I believe will both be up next year and there's plenty of other players who could be up soon, including cossa who continues to look better with each game in the AHL and may be up sooner than people think. You guys are full of paranoia, It will destroy ya.

      @jackconrad2667 Před 21 dnem

      He will absolutely sign Raymond and seider to probably 8 year contracts. Well deserved as well. Stamkos would be a dumb signing. He doesn’t fit what Detroit needs. I can absolutely see yzerman trying to sign Kane but if Kane leaves and signs elsewhere we will find out why yzerman let him walk. As for kasper. I just don’t know. There is a spot for him to come up. But yzerman may try to bring in a second line center vet as well. Edvisson proved he is ready. He’s for sure going to be in the starting line up. Husso and cossa can swap spots lol. I bet cossa can match .892 and not be injured all year. For a fifth of the cost
