It has been an eventful few days for the Detroit Red Wings, but the two most important things are that Dylan Larkin is back, and Moritz Seider blew up Filip Forsberg in his 1st career fight.
Tune in as we open by discussing the Red Wings win over Patrick Roy's New York Islanders, including the captain Dylan Larkin's triumphant return, the Copp - Rasmussen - Fischer line dominating, DeBrincat finding Kane, Simon Edvinsson's huge plays, Fischer's "sorry mom" moment, Reimer getting the win & Lucas Raymond not having to carry the team as Lalonde's squad won a huge playoff matchup (5:00). After that, the close 1-0 loss to Saros and the Nashville Predators, including Moritz Seider's big left hand (to the delight of Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels) and its similarities to DeBrincat - Josi, Alex Lyon's strong performance, the playoff feel to the game, and more (19:15).
Next, we discuss Hockeytown's playoff probabilities, with the Washington Capitals running hot, the Flyers and the Islanders still in the mix, and what Detroit has ahead to earn its way in (33:10).
After that, updates as Michigan State beat Michigan for the B1G Championship, with Trey Augustine winning Most Outstanding player & Red Savage being another Red Wings prospect to lift the trophy, as well as Sebastian Cossa's hot streak with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins (40:50).
Finally, NHL news including Tom Wilson's suspension, Ovechkin chasing Gretzky's goal record, McDavid chasing MacKinnon & Kucherov for the Art Ross, the Hart Trophy, & lots more (44:10) before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:00:30) - enjoy!

Quick note/addendum: In/around the playoff race section, a section was lost due to the audio being spoiled by some noise around the studio (🏎🏎🏎) - what we discussed was the Philadelphia Flyers also being extremely relevant in the event that the Washington Capitals passed them in the standings (which they have the games in hand to do). In that case, Philly losing would throw Detroit a lifeline even if the Red Wings lose to the Capitals. The Flyers sit at 81 points in 71 GP, 3 points ahead of the Red Wings (& 3 more RWs).

The Seider-Forsberg fight was incredible. It was a solid fight by players who aren't just a couple meatheads, and I'm absolutely here for it.

It was a good hockey fight. Mo's never been one to back down but who knew he could actually fight? Not I boys! We had Tony Mantha try to fight but each time he did he broke his hands. I was hoping the Wings would hire a boxing coach for the pre-season to teach Mantha how to throw a punch without breaking his hands, but that never did materialize did it? Oh well, Mo won't be needing any lessons along those lines.

If there was a game where DeBrincat needed to wake up, this Caps game is it.

Actually, the game where he needed to wake up was probably forty games ago. This is who he is, not as good as advertised.

I’m with Brad. I want Larkin with Kane and DeBrincat. Raymond has shown that he can drive his own line and actually upped his game without Larkin

I agree with Larkin being with Cat and Kane. It looks like Raymond was overshadowed by Larkin's return, compared to where Raymond was before. I would love to see him as a line driver on the 2nd line, i dont know who with though. Maybe Peron and Compher or Compher and Valeno.

I'll be at the one on April 9th with my brother, who is, as it so happens (albeit a hockey fan first), a capitals fan. Maybe Tampa Bay will implode and we can both be happy come May, but I feel there's gonna be some tension there. Although I'm 2/2 this season in games I've attended, so maybe there's something to that haha.

Seider would only have to fight about twice a season to scare opposing forwards away from the net and provoke a lot of errant passes.

A couple of proposed changes to the RW:
    1. Give Seider the 'C'. Although I love Larkin and he is integral to the team, Seider's personality as a solid rock is a better fit. This is NOT about Larkin not performing or being punished for not producing, which he IS, but rather that the team needs Seiders calm demeanor as a base mindset.
    2. Have Lalonde step back into the Assistant Coach position to leave the Head Coach position to someone more suitable. He knows his X's and O's but I feel as if the locker room dynamics requires someone a bit more stoic as the Head coach.
    3. Drop Chiarot, Perron, Petry, Holl, Maatta and/or Copp. These guys do have experience, but if (this particular) experience still don't create consistency and result in way too long losing streaks, they have got to go. Preferably to leave room for the young ones.
    4. Focus on obtaining a Nr.1 goalie - Sure the D side is its own problem, but we NEED a nr.1 goalie who consistently can perform without letting in softies or let off too many rebounds.
    Love the pod cast

Yay more McDavid, god I hate hearing about that guy. I love the podcast but you guys work him into like every episode and he's still the greatest loser in NHL history. McDavid has been surrounded by plenty of talent for several years no with no hardware. Dude is not a winner (yet) so not best player in my book. Most of his points come in spurts against weak teams. He is still great but not enough of a difference maker in those big games. He can shut up my hater ass if he wins a cup.
