Great show once again. Eric Engles, it's always a threat to have a such well spoken and smart man.
So happy to see Anthony Marcotte. Just love that guy! Having a segment on the Rocket is great!
Thanks for having Anthony on and providing news about Laval. Here's hoping they make the playoffs and give us something to look forward to. On Josh Anderson... he had a really terrible game against Seattle. I seen him not finish his forechecks and there was this one moment when Evans brought the puck in over the offensive blue line and it came to Josh in the lower left hand side and Josh immediately just rimmed the puck around the net even though there was no one near him and he could have skated with the puck towards the goal or made a pass - it was brutal. The puck was like a hot potato to him. His confidence is none existent.
I watched several Rocket games since Reinbacher arrived. I was impressed by the skating of Baron, Reinbacher, MAilloux and Paquet. 4 big guys doing quite well on both side of the ice.
They've only played 3, but congratulations
I have a feeling there is a good possibility that Barron may be one of the D prospects that is involved in trade talks this offseason… not saying he will be moved, But he could be talked about in my opinion… I am so impressed with Logan Mailloux this season he’s gotten better defensively and his offensive game is just getting so good… I knew David Reinbacher would do well in the AHL and he will do well in the NHL… if you look at the type of player Reinbacher is you will notice he covers a lot of ice he’s so rangy and that fits perfectly on a smaller ice surface… This kid is going to be good.
Always great when you listen to that first 5 minutes a few times. What a song. Keep it up! SICK on the run
Tony is right, Anthony Marcotte is lit on the mic
I love this podcast man! Thanks for everything that you and your guest do for us crazy fans!
I hate how much I love the theme song 😭
Running high on this wave of emotions!!!!

Question. Any chance that the sick podcast can have a regular weekly shpw featuring several of the BPM sports journalists regarding the Habs broadcast in English. To say that the habs have a cross Canada following would be an understatement. Fortunately we have more podcasts shows happening and one on the mainstays for Habs information is the Sick Podcast featuring Tony Marinaro. The show tonight featuring Eric who is always informative was taken up a notch with Marcotte
Great show tonight Tony.
Great talk about Matheson.
But in 2026 he will be a 32yo UFA and will likely command 8-9million dollars *minimum*.
It would be foolish to sign him to that amount at that age, even on a short contract.
This means he unfortunately needs to be traded before his contract is up.
Great announcer
Anthony was great
Wait and see if Kent recipe will bring you a cup... you will be able to speak about his moves after... if they are good or bad...
Wow!
Comparison in +++ to -- BETWEEN Mailloux n PK is ridiculous. What was the goals for vs goals against like?
Those plus minus stats are a little misleading. I watched a few Hamilton Bulldogs games that season. They had Carey Price in net. I like Dobes but he ain’t no Carey Price.
Look at that now! +and - are not important because of what??? The player's name?
The best
Sick
Matheson will be a great trade chip next year at the deadline or off season. Sorry, space will need to be made for Hudson, Mailloux and Reinbacher.
Matheson is in Guhle's spot. The fact Guhle plays on the first pair on his weak side to cover Matheson should make it fairly obvious.
About Mike Matheson, gentlemen, I couldn't agree more. I would add that, in my experience, some people don't have it in themselves to appreciate anything or anyone...
Matheson has great abilities which likely accounts for many of his good advanced stats but he does make a lot of boneheaded decisions. I don't think you can say he is excellent defensively. Maybe that is because of the workload he gets.
Glad marty and his family are ok
Plus minus is a representable stats when you're so far off your teammates....
The only problems I have with Mike Matheson are that he bobbles the puck off his stick WAAAYYY too much it’s almost guaranteed to happen at least 3-4 times a game and costs us zone possession… The other problem I have is he doesn’t pass to slafkovsky LIKE RARELY passes to Slaf and these are the issues I have with him… other than that he’s a great player it’s hard to deny he’s not lol… If Habs fans don’t like Matheson because of his defensive game then I have news for you because you’re going to HATE Lane Hutson…. Hutson will be a dynamic offensive D won’t be great defensively, but he won’t bobble the puck like ever lol…. Matheson is on pace for 11-12 goals and 56-57 points and that is a great OFD… he’s almost touching 60 points and scoring 11-12 goals… It’s still very possible that Matheson could touch 60 points if he has some good games coming down the stretch here….
Why do hockey commentators who should know this stuff keep saying NHL rinks are shorter? NHL rinks are not shorter, in fact they are marginally *longer* than European rinks. European rinks also have more space behind the nets so the distance between goal lines is actually nearly 8 feet less than on an NHL rink. The neutral zone is longer too so the defensize/offensive zones are much, much shorter. European rinks are bigger overall but because they are *wider* (by a lot), not longer.
Nobody wanted Drouin last year at the deadline.
Give me a break on the Mike Matheson admiration society. He would be a total liability in the playoffs.
some people?
happy b day engleman!
im upset you say the danglemans name but im just some people .
this could be a good one ill freestyle it .
cant help but notice none of the "prospects " you mentioned ever mentioned houle as a reason they were called up . nor do consider players doing well in laval at 31 prospects .
its incentive to play well ,so they dont go back down there .
i dont want to argue with tony hes an insider now but :
what prospects have they developed ?
primeau was sat all year , was his development due to laval or all year in montreal playing against nhl players . not bag skating .
who else xhekaj? he pouted because he was making 800k less a year down there .did he come back checking and blocking ? no he came back shooting because he saw mailloux .imo
who has jf houle developed that is playing well on the team? what guy? barron ?roy ? armia ?
i would assume armia had the fear of god put into him seeing whats going on in laval .
hes not good with the kids . not good .. i dont want him having mesar or tuch . he will taint them with stupidity imo . no no nonono
anyhoo some people ... the don got cancelled for calling some people , some people . do you mean people that live downtown toronto ? i do wear a poppy ,but they fall off you know ?
some people , rant over :P
gohabsgo
Matheson needs to go.
If ever you decided to trade Mattie ... the teams would be lined up to the door to take him off your hands ... I wonder why. He's a keeper and he ain't going anywhere.
Lol, the only people that think he's good is dumb habs fans and coaching staff. I doubt we could get a second round pick for him.
-31. He's literally spotting the other teams 1 goal against per game. 😅
MSL overplay all his best players to win more games...but at times, these players may look bad because they are not seated on the right chairs. Matheson is not a top pair defenseman even though he is still being overused as one...that's the main reason why he does not appear very confortable at times in certain situations !!!
Trade Anderson to the PWHL
Matheson is the 15 worst in the league in plus minus with -27. Yes he has a lot of points playing on the first power play, but he is terrible defensively.
Matheson plays way more than anyone on the D corps. Plus minus is not a good way to evaluate how well he is doing.
All offensive D men make errors. I bet you Hudson makes a ton of turnovers when he arrives
Jesus Tony..enough ..20 minutes of time spent on sponsorship
This podcast became too much a fan club positivity…
Start your own see how it works
Coffey got very lucky on that play in the 84 Canada Cup. He would have been the LAST defenseman you would want defending a 2 on 1.
