  • @firepaulmauricealready8452

    Not sure who the yelling dude is, but he's completely off. 2-3 seconds late? Nah, Evans was still trying to wrap the puck around. It was a perfectly timed hit, but just unfortunate that Evans wasn't prepared. As for charging 150 feet? Again, no. Scheifele is backchecking hard, and with about 10 feet left to go, he realizes that he's not going to be able to stop the goal, so decides to plant Evans firmly on his ass to make an example for the next game.
    Scheifele's hit was maybe ill-advised, but it wasn't illegal. He keeps the elbow down and drives the shoulder through the chest. There is incidental head contact/whiplash, but the head wasn't the principal point of contact. He doesn't leave his feet until AFTER the hit when he loses his balance.
    Evans has to expect a hit in that position. He didn't have his head up and got blindsided. If Evans head is up, and he's aware that Scheifele is about to steamroll him, he would have bounced off of Scheifele, and that would have been the end of it. There wouldn't have even been a penalty on the play. It's the playoffs! Evans has to be more aware than that.

    • @ajlambros
      @ajlambros Před 2 lety +3

      Imagine if Scheifele let up and let Evans score? He'd get killed by local media for not competing on the play, it was a 4-3 game with 55 seconds left, he had no choice but go full speed to try and save a goal and bring the puck back for a chance to score, this is playoff hockey.

    I couldn’t disagree more with ya Gabe, this was a 4-3 hockey game with a minute left to play. If Scheifele is able to stop him from scoring he’s rewarded for his 200 ft game and endless hustle. The hit as it stands, was completely legal he led with his shoulder and just so happened to catch Evans in a vulnerable position. The 5 minute major and a game in my personal opinion is enough. Now a days, hits are so far and few that we automatically put them under a microscope and judge whether they are legal or illegal. Trust me, we all know when an illegal hit happens. This to me was a hockey play that was unfortunate for how injured Evans seemed to be. As far as old school hockey goes, I do believe their still is a code for men, especially in hockey to police themselves. Regardless if Scheifele gets 1 game or a 50 game suspension he will have to answer for that hit and it will be solved on the ice. And that to me is why this is the greatest sport, but when we start putting every hit and every fight under a microscope I feel like it takes away from the integrity of “the code” and what goes on in a professional hockey game. Just my opinion

      @@kevinmunguia7381 I agree with you on the frustrations, the game was 100% getting chippy and it was evident with him and chariot 10 minutes prior where he came away with the penalty. I just feel like it was a bang bang play. The worst case scenario happened, Evans gets taken off on a stretcher and that sucks, but if he breaks up the play with that hit or if Evans gets up after the goal I don’t think we’re having this conversation or it blows up as big. I think because of the momentum he had and since he was coming from center ice it would have resulted in a penalty, roughing or charging. But overall I think it was a hockey play with a very unfortunate outcome. Like I said I Mark will have to answer the bell when he comes back and I think he should it’s what makes this sport great. But the microscope were putting some of these hits under I think is just ridiculous. I know as a huge fan of the sport every time I’ve seen a really dirty hit I’ve felt it, but with this is one I just didn’t idk.. like I said just my opinion man

      @@jeremybrouillard you want him to spear tackle him? It was a little high because of his height and Evans stretching out so his head was lower. The only way to hit him lower he would have had to go into a full squat? Scheifele had the choice to give up on the play or do this. Evans equally had a choice to not try the wrap around with a guy coming full speed to the same spot.

      @@badgertrav6415 The only way Scheifele was preventing a goal was some form of a poke check or stick lift. He realized he wasn't getting there with his stick in time to disrupt the wrap around and decided in a moment of stupidity and frustration to barrel right through him. I don't think Scheifele is dirty but he is competitive. However, in that split second, he released his frustration on Evans without thinking. He could have and should have let up. He nor any Jet player was preventing that goal.

      @@jeffreyrosenblad566 i agree with 75% of what you are saying. However we as fans also complain that athletes don't give enough effort or hustle.. had he "let up" yes the conversation would be different.. but I think he would have been killed for "lack of effort" to try and prevent a goal. His mistake was going for the hit WITHOUT also attempting a poke check. Had he kept the stick down and still collided... might have had an injury still.. but less severe and definitely more defensible in terms of playing the puck and that being shown on film.

    It's a clean hit. It's the playoffs. Dudes are literally diving in front of rubber projectiles traveling 100mph+ to block shots.
    Needless to say that it is unfortunate that Evans got hurt, but you can not go around skating with your head down like that.
    The league wants to go away from "this", but is okay with 2 guys trying to injure each other in a bareknuckle competition to see who can score a concussion?
    Had Evans protected himself I doubt he would have gotten injured, and no one would be talking about this hit.
    For all that needed a "safe space" after seeing this hit and think this is the most brutal/vicious/dirty thing they've ever seen, I'll change that. Look up Bertuzzi vs Moore, that is dirty/vicious/criminal.
    Scheifele's hit was just a check, against a player who momentarily forgot he was trying to score in a close scoring NHL playoff game.
