Pat McAfee Talks Why NFL Limiting Toradol Is A Terrible Idea

- Toradol was something that allowed many players to recover and play to a higher potential than they normally would have. Some players have said it was a lifesaver. With the competitiveness that NFL players have, I just hope that limiting Toradol doesn't lead to use of other things to feel better.
This is a clip from The Pat McAfee Show live from Noon-3PM EST Mon-Fri.

The Bengals have to inject their Toradol outside in the snow.... thoughts and prayers...
This is still my favorite running joke.
Wouldn't they have a place to do it I'm Australian so I just assumed that being an NFL franchise that the Bengals would have some sort of indoor facility possibly to practice in and etc.

To everyone saying they can just smoke... weed can help with pain and many other things physically and mentally but if you have a serious injury and are trying to labor through it THC and CBD just isn’t gonna do enough. I’m def pro marijuana and against pain killers but having had some serious injuries in my playing days I can personally say from experience that weed wasn’t enough to compensate for certain injuries. (I am a medical marijuana user and against the painkiller epidemic but you can’t just replace painkillers with weed in some circumstances)
So tired of the Marijuana folks acting like it's a cure all.
I love Marijuana. It's It's amazing drug and medicine.
But come on. It's not a true pain killer.

I was an Army InfantryMan for 20 years. I have suffered many of the same injuries as an NFL player be it in training and Combat. Toradal is a friggin wonder drug. I have narrowing of the spine due to bone spurs. The same injury that retired Michael Irvin. 3 weeks ago I ended up in a VA ER in the fetal position and walked out after the shot. When a nerve roles over a spur it's debilitating. Toradal shots are why I don't take OXY after using it for a decade.
Happy you found something that works sir. Glad you are off those oxys, those things are the devil. God bless you big man, thanks for all your sacrifices.
FDA Black Box warning on Toradol. In every hospital I’ve worked in there’s been a 5 day limit on dosing.
I’m not for a total ban, but there would definitely need to have a watch on it. One of those “If a stupid rule exists, there is a stupid person that caused it.”
I take Toradol(Ketorolac) regularly for a nerve condition. I have to space out when I use it as repeated use of Toradol in short periods of time does intense damage to your liver & kidneys. Football players using it like they historically have just adds one more possible ailment to a sport that already leaves it's players a potential broken wreck.
Effects on kidneys from toradol use can be offset with milk thistle (off the shelf) or some other cleanser they can be prescribed
@@randylynch4330 and what are your credentials?
NO TORADOL........ THAT MEANS INJURIES ARE GOING TO GO UP ESPECIALLY FOR OFFENSIVE LINEMAN IN 2021.

AJ Hawk is so understated it's bordering on genius! (Ronnie Lott 2.0 staying on the field with all those injuries)
Loved watching him play at Ohio State and for Green Bay.
Lol Lott was an all time great who cut off his finger to play. They aren’t comparable. Especially 2.0? Hell no. Lott hit so hard.
This dynamic is absolutely bloody awesome.
Last year I had a kidney stone. This was my third go around with the not so little bastards. It was the weekend and just the start of Covid. I went to the ER. They gave me the strongest narcotic pain killer they had. It didn't even touch the pain. Not. One. Bit. After several hours I finally convinced them to give me Toradol which I had been given the last time I had kidney stones. Within minutes, the pain was almost completely gone. For me at least, Toradol is the pain killer of choice for kidney stones.
Glad you’re having these conversations. The truth is much needed in today’s culture.
Did not know AJ was such a real badass. Bravo to you sir, you officially receive the two feet driving pass!!!
Anything that takes pain away is addictive. Who doesn't like being pain free especially when you live every day in pain.
You can't strip them of every thing. These guys put their bodies on the line for our entertainment. They have a legit need for pain management.
Toradol works by the same mechanism as Motrin. It has the same side effects and contrary to Pat's comment, it's no more mood altering than Motrin is. It is not addictive but you can become dependent as in, without it, you're in pain and you don't want to be in pain. It's fair to say that Toradol is the injectable form of Motrin and more potent
Preach.
took toradol while I had a kidney stone in the hospital, god that shits a miracle drug all the pain was gone in minutes
Don’t let this distract you from the fact the bengals still don’t have an indoor practice facility
Yeah, that's actually the reason why they never have a winning season Lol
Watch the Vice doc on Toradol they interview nfl vets like Marcellus Wiley
Lol..... " this may be something "🤣
Hawk you're an absolute beast!
AJ seems like an action movie character at some point. This and the tooth turning into dust story. I also liked the finger injuries are not injuries commentary. I guess we know why Miller lite and Coors light have had him in ads over the years.
the NHL had a documentary come out about the use and after effects of toradol use. Featuring Ryan Kesler. Good documentary
Im a little worried. Ive taken ketorolac orally every few days for nerve damage for the last few weeks.
"Small town, white guy, grinder" 😂
Haven't heard the name Andy Studebaker in quite a while. Had a two interception game with the Chiefs against the Steelers. Always an underdog.
Really glad Pat brought up the opioid Epidemic/Pandemic 🙏🏼 RIP to those lost
Toradol is a prescription strength NSAID...it’s not an opioid like Vicodin.
Toradol is a life saver for intense migraines and they don't treat you like a junkie when you ask for it.

Toradol is THE pain medicine for dealing with kidney stones. Yes, bleeding and stomach/kidney issues arise with repeated use. But few work better as a short-need pain reliever.
I am on Protonix for the rest of my life to keep my stomach some what sane because of Toradol.
They gave me Toradol in the ER and it shut down my kidneys! Like any drug there are risks!
"Small town white guy grinder" classic
2:48 LMFAO

Like any NSAIDS Toradol can effect the kidneys, stomach, and cardiovascular system, and can cause bleeding. It's a great drug if used correctly, but in the hospital we weren't able to give it for longer than 3 days. So I do have concerns with people using it frequently like it sounds like happens in sports.
I’ve been taken Percocet for 5 years . I have 2 new knees & blown out both my Achilles . I wake up walk down my stairs to let in my dog & I can barely make it down & back up . Then I take 2 Percocet & an hour later I have no virtually no pain going up & down the stairs . I take another at night once in a while if I’ve pushed it playing around with my Grandkids that day. I have never got high , never abused them , only take them when I need them yet I have to run through hoops to get a prescription for them because some people abuse them. They are a life changer for me making me able to work out my grandkids & play catch with them. But all because some people aren’t responsible I can’t even get sleeping pills right now because they won’t let me if I take Percocet. These drugs do wonders for responsible people!!!
That stuff takes a toll on the cartilage, you can get to a point were its bone on bone. Its their body tho, and they are trying to power thru the pain.
I’m pretty sure there has been players on Sunday who took aderrall mdma or xtc to just get even more explosive
Addiction to painkillers is a lot worse than legalising weed for players
Legalizing weed has nothing to do with painkillers. When you get fucked up you need morphine, not marijuana.
@@tyronewilliams1984 actually it stops when prescription drugs aren't pumped into athletes systems at a whim. Much better ways to reduce pain aka CBD products with no lasting effects
Sounds like I need some Toradol right now.
Limiting the risk of internal hemorrhage is rarely a bad idea.
It's a bad idea if that side effect risk has never caused harm to a NFL player.

I'm all for THC and CBD being a part of pain regimen, and Toradol I assume is a short blessing to these guys post-op. Is tramadol a better alternative? Wasn't there a study that indicated the pain management was better and side effects weren't as severe? I'm not a sports medicine guy, but that's just my two cents from research.
Some guys take it before every game just because of how bad their feet hurt from running so fast and hard with a higher than average BMI compared to most people/athletes.
The label says for short term use for acute post operative pain. No wonder players want it.

Never have I seen one of these 'pros' address the thousands of injuries to Pop Warner, middle school or high school players that will never have legitimate access to any specialized treatment. A lot of these kids have had to deal with lifelong injuries before they even hit double digits in age. I had my jaw nearly dislocated in high school, kept playing the rest of the game and decided after that was not worth it. It still pops funny 40 years later.
Cool story bro.
I broke my fibula in half in a high school game. And then I went on and played in college. No bodily side effects haunt me and I feel like I am a better man for being a part of those teams.
Show some receipts on your flame that thousands of kids have life long injuries before age 10...
4 am talking points = narrative v. real investigative journalism
In February 2020 I had COVID and the doctor had no clue what to do. She gave me toridol. I was laughing.
"I believe Toradol works different than the painkillers." Pat McAfee, certified genius. Lol. Toradol is intramuscular injected fast acting advil, boys. The painkillers are opiates. One treats the cause of pain, one just totally blocks it (and becomes addictive).
Plus Toradol, by its brand name, is no longer available in the US. You would have to be able to get the generic.
If you need an NSAID there are other options out there. Plus things like cold laser.
@@1packatak Thats wild. Ive prescribed it probably hundreds of times as ketorolac but I never realized they dont even sell it as Toradol anymore.
Funny how I got recommended by youtube to watch this. I rejected toroidal today. Had a horrible lower back injury and a doctor prescribed me 3 shots. One of 3 was toroidal. I said no. I had watched a video who featured Kieth McCants who played for the buccaneers on Vice. That lead me to decline the doctor recommendation.
I wish people realized how awesome cannabis is for people. I wish I could smoke out with everyone from the show!!
get somebody that looks into your eyes the way pat is looking at the camera in the thumbnail.
Toradol just covers up the pain.. By taking it and going back onto the field your body is getting temporary pain relief, and in the process your damaging your body even more. Years of taking Toradol can become addicting, and also becoming reliant on pain killers that you will end up a completely different person than when you first came into the league. It's sad seeing so many childhood heroes on mine end up in a very downward direction, and it becomes a pattern. It's easy for McAfee to get on a high horse, and praise Toradol cause the dude was the smartest one on the field he was the KICKER.
Look, I love toradol as much as the next guy (I have chronic kidney stones), but there have been too many GI bleeds caused by it.
That can be said of any anti inflammatory nsaid aspirin ibuprofen etc
Hey pat and crew, if i recall correctly you like the show dark side of the ring? About wrestling? Theyre now doing dark side of football on vice thursdays at 10:00. The episode they aired last week was all about toridol and how a lot of old players are against it! Theyve had an episode on the bengals and rise and fall of chad johnson. Next episode was the old raiders and bill romanowski. Then bill bellichick and the pats cheating scandals. Now this past thursday was about toridol, jim mcmahon was one of the guys against it cant remember the others. I think youll enjoy it and itll give you more content for the show, for the slow times in this offseason
Closing in on 1.5m subs :)
Darius just said players who wouldn't be playing and coaches would get the Toradol shot.. wtf
Yet they want to add games
Toradol is a NSAID and has similar negative long-term effects as the myriad of others in the same category.
So pumping players full of chemicals so that they can play injured and risk furthering the injury is a good thing? I love Pat, but this is a bad take, in my opinion. I also find it funny that jabbing a needle into someone is common practice but other guys are getting suspended for smoking a joint.
Lmao pat’s the retired stooge
Pain pills bind to opioid receptors which flood the brain with dopamine.
When an injury occurs, your body immediately goes to work trying to heal, it’s also your body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong. Inflammation is caused by specialized white blood cells migrating to that area to do work. This is what causes swelling and most of the pain that one would experience from say a high ankle sprain. You take a couple aleve, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc., and you will experience moderate to minimal relief, as they are mild otc. Toradol is strong AF so it stops wbc big time which prevents the inflammation, swelling which increases range of motion, flexibility, etc.
Call Dr. Zahorian or Dr. Phil Astin for pain medication.
Toradol is a fantastic NSAID, with very low risk of addiction, or abuse, and very low side effects, compared to a host of other drugs. 4g of acetaminophen can cause irreparable liver damage and over that dose can outright kill you.
Are we just trying to get rid of older players? If guys have played long enough, they are going to have some pretty consistent inflammation that needs to be addressed. Toradol does just that: it addresses those inflammations.
One bite everyone knows AJ doesn’t feel pain.
The pain killer makes you feel high and doesn't stop pain that much, it makes it tolerable. I've never had toradol but from what I am told it will lift you right out of serious pain and allow you to play. Someone unnamed told me it was like extra strength Advil times 50
Does nothing about concussions
Everyone: how dare you do nothing?!?!?
