Pat McAfee Talks Why NFL Limiting Toradol Is A Terrible Idea

  • Toradol was something that allowed many players to recover and play to a higher potential than they normally would have. Some players have said it was a lifesaver. With the competitiveness that NFL players have, I just hope that limiting Toradol doesn't lead to use of other things to feel better.

To everyone saying they can just smoke... weed can help with pain and many other things physically and mentally but if you have a serious injury and are trying to labor through it THC and CBD just isn’t gonna do enough. I’m def pro marijuana and against pain killers but having had some serious injuries in my playing days I can personally say from experience that weed wasn’t enough to compensate for certain injuries. I was an Army InfantryMan for 20 years. I have suffered many of the same injuries as an NFL player be it in training and Combat. Toradal is a friggin wonder drug. I have narrowing of the spine due to bone spurs. The same injury that retired Michael Irvin. 3 weeks ago I ended up in a VA ER in the fetal position and walked out after the shot. When a nerve roles over a spur it's debilitating. Toradal shots are why I don't take OXY after using it for a decade.

Last year I had a kidney stone. This was my third go around with the not so little bastards. It was the weekend and just the start of Covid. I went to the ER. They gave me the strongest narcotic pain killer they had. It didn't even touch the pain. Not. One. Bit. After several hours I finally convinced them to give me Toradol which I had been given the last time I had kidney stones. Within minutes, the pain was almost completely gone. For me at least, Toradol is the pain killer of choice for kidney stones.

Toradol works by the same mechanism as Motrin. It has the same side effects and contrary to Pat's comment, it's no more mood altering than Motrin is. It is not addictive but you can become dependent as in, without it, you're in pain and you don't want to be in pain. It's fair to say that Toradol is the injectable form of Motrin and more potent

Plus Toradol, by its brand name, is no longer available in the US. You would have to be able to get the generic.
If you need an NSAID there are other options out there. Plus things like cold laser.

Funny how I got recommended by youtube to watch this. I rejected toroidal today. Had a horrible lower back injury and a doctor prescribed me 3 shots. One of 3 was toroidal. I said no. I had watched a video who featured Kieth McCants who played for the buccaneers on Vice. That lead me to decline the doctor recommendation.

Toradol just covers up the pain.. By taking it and going back onto the field your body is getting temporary pain relief, and in the process your damaging your body even more. Years of taking Toradol can become addicting, and also becoming reliant on pain killers that you will end up a completely different person than when you first came into the league. It's sad seeing so many childhood heroes on mine end up in a very downward direction, and it becomes a pattern. It's easy for McAfee to get on a high horse, and praise Toradol cause the dude was the smartest one on the field he was the KICKER.

Hey pat and crew, if i recall correctly you like the show dark side of the ring? About wrestling? Theyre now doing dark side of football on vice thursdays at 10:00. The episode they aired last week was all about toridol and how a lot of old players are against it! Theyve had an episode on the bengals and rise and fall of chad johnson. Next episode was the old raiders and bill romanowski. Then bill bellichick and the pats cheating scandals. Now this past thursday was about toridol, jim mcmahon was one of the guys against it cant remember the others. I think youll enjoy it and itll give you more content for the show, for the slow times in this offseason

So pumping players full of chemicals so that they can play injured and risk furthering the injury is a good thing? I love Pat, but this is a bad take, in my opinion. I also find it funny that jabbing a needle into someone is common practice but other guys are getting suspended for smoking a joint.

  • @ruggedmeetsrefined5345

Pain pills bind to opioid receptors which flood the brain with dopamine.
When an injury occurs, your body immediately goes to work trying to heal, it’s also your body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong. Inflammation is caused by specialized white blood cells migrating to that area to do work. This is what causes swelling and most of the pain that one would experience from say a high ankle sprain. You take a couple aleve, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc., and you will experience moderate to minimal relief, as they are mild otc. Toradol is strong AF so it stops wbc big time which prevents the inflammation, swelling which increases range of motion, flexibility, etc.

Toradol is a fantastic NSAID, with very low risk of addiction, or abuse, and very low side effects, compared to a host of other drugs. 4g of acetaminophen can cause irreparable liver damage and over that dose can outright kill you.
Are we just trying to get rid of older players? If guys have played long enough, they are going to have some pretty consistent inflammation that needs to be addressed. Toradol does just that: it addresses those inflammations.

The pain killer makes you feel high and doesn't stop pain that much, it makes it tolerable. I've never had toradol but from what I am told it will lift you right out of serious pain and allow you to play. Someone unnamed told me it was like extra strength Advil times 50
