i hate to say it but I agree with every issue you identified. Only thing I would add is lack of toughness/response to other teams' taking cheap-shots at us. We never answer.
Lalonde may have been alright as a assistant coach with the lightning but as a head coach he seems to just lack motivation and coaching skills
Dude this guy hit the nail on the head. I dunno if u remeber yzermans press conference like 10 months about all the UFA signings. And him explaining why he brought all these guys on. None of them are doing what they were brought here to do. We have so much dead weight right now. And I'm sorry I love yzerman but he has signed all these guys. He built this current team. And I know u can't just sign every guy u want, but who scouted these guys and said oh yeah we need jeff petry he will help our defense. Our justin holl? I like what he said about why cant we get these decisions right? Like the rangers and trochek. People were literally laughing at us and yzerman for signing jeff petry and justin holl. Toronto hated holl. They couldn't wait for him to go. Same with petry. Habs and pens friggin hated him with passion. What was yzerman or draper thinking in signing them? Who is identifying these guys and making these choices. Why can't we get these choices correct like other teams. Like he said vegas with hanifen and look at carolina with guentzel. Why are we taking such sub par guys and signing them??? I would have been more comfortable being bad 1 more year and waited for our drafted players to come up next season and then maybe picking up 2 or 3 UFA signings. And I wish these friggin reporters would ask the tough questions. I'm so sick of these friggin excuses from lalonde after the game. Oh I give the guys so much credit they came back and tied it....u lost bro. U friggin lost. There no awards for trying really hard. Why was pittsburgh able to score 5 friggin goals? Why are we even in this picture in the first place when we had a 9 pt. Cusion over everyone? I'm sick of it. When flyers play like ass torts says they played like ass. Sick of lalonde and the damn excuses!
You nailed it...Love Stevie but he has had 5 years to turn this team around to at least get in the playoffs tired of the free pass he's getting he has had high draft picks the last 5 years and where are they at and the FA rentals he has acquired has not worked out..I've seen other teams turn it around in 1 or 2 years and make the playoffs
Yeah we don’t look like a rising team. Lots of misses on free agent signings. Overpriced players. Looks like mismanagement to me but nobody will call it out because it’s Saint Yzerman
This is the most honest review of this current team in its current position that I have heard. Refreshing to hear real hockey talk from a fellow Wings fan.
@@randysaber5220 You do realize it took Yzerman 15 years to win a cup right? You have been spoiled rotten since 1995 just like most Wings fans who have this notion of we must make the playoffs. It's not about making the playoffs, it's about winning a Stanley Cup. The sooner you figure that out, the more sense of Yzermans moves you will understand. Wow other teams turned it around in 1 or 2 years and then never won a stanley cup and became mediocre again. Is that what you want??!!?!

Worst thing that could happen is for them to make the playoffs and then keeping Lalonde because of it.
Hey, I'm a Pens fan and had to put up with a lot crap the way the Pens played for most of the year (although there were some great years in the last decade). But I was kind of hoping to see the Wings make it to the playoffs this year, cuz I know that it's been a tough decade for their fans. I still think they have a shot to make the playoffs. I know they have to play the Leafs this weekend (Saturday, April 13, 2024), but they close out the year with a home-and-home against the Montreal Canadiens, who are so down-and-out.
On the other hand, the Pens (who are only 1 point ahead, although they hold the tie-breaker) have to play the Boston Bruins this weekend, who I think are much tougher than the Leafs. Then they close out the schedule at home against the Nashville Predators (no easy roll-over), and on the road against the never-say-die Islanders.
Washington are at home twice, first against the very tough Tampa Bay Lightning tonight (Saturday), then face the even tougher Boston Bruins on Monday, and close out on the road against the weak Flyers on Tuesday.
Overall, I think Detroit has an easier schedule than either Pittsburgh or Washington. So they could still do it.

I agree with it all except Perron. Perron has a role on any team it’s just having the right coaches to put him in the right spots. I feel he’s being used wrong.

@@joshbillings7290 Mark these words. Fabbri needs to be traded in the summer, not even TDL, in the summer. Why? Look at his record. There is a pattern there. Go look at it. He's 100% going to get a bad injury next season. One of those that keeps him out for like 3 quarters of a season. Trade him before it happens.

You are spot on. I can't disagree with anything you said. Yzerman has not done a good job. Poor coaches, poor development in many cases and ridiculous FA signings.
I trust yzerplan... when we make playoffs again mark my words we have another 25 year run and several cups
"Distributed" scoring separated DRW from most all teams, giving them an edge that few other teams had. When things got tight, Newsy shortened the bench and we went on a losing spree. Larkin and Raymond have willed the team back, but Newsy had ensured that his bottom six can no longer be counted on to contribute. Hard to score and getting in the game playing 8 minutes per game. Shame on Newsy and his lack of experience at the helm.
The problem im having with SY UFA signings, is there either to old or expected to much, we keep brining in bottom 6 centers that played way above heads on there bottom pairs and then SY decides, that's my second line center right there, like go look up JT, Copp and Pius Sutter when they all played second line for us, its litteraly the spiderman pointing meme, you might as well slot Kasper second line cause ya probably would get the same results sadly

I watched almost every other team pickup good players at the trade deadline when we did nothing.
Picking up Kane was dumb, because it gives mixed signals.. This team is not anywhere near the talent needed to be a playoff team. They were the only team to take a risk on 88, so he came here.. But now he's gone making it a total waste of time. Plus bringing him in got fans excited thinking the team wasn't absolute dog meat and the rebuild was nearing an end. Yzerman hasn't done squat except pick up Kaner for jersey sales.. Very confusing
There was no one they needed to pick up. Berggren and Edvinsson were improvements. Too bad they didn't want to trust Berggren.
We definitely need a new coach. I think that is pretty glaring like driving into the sun on your way home from work.
At least when you go on line to trace your package and you see " out for delivery" , you get a little excited.
But this Yzerplan has been stuck in the shipping mode too long. And as far as Lalonde being the driver that finally delivers the package, it isn't happening.
At the least , fire Lalonde and get somebody that can motivate this mediocrity of a team
With two Montreal games to close out the season, they have the easiest schedude. It is very plausable to see the other teams only win one game each, and Detroit winning two games. The problem is Penguins have been so hot lately.

You forgot to bring up Rasmussen which yzerman just gave him a contact extension in the middle of the season a decent defensive centerman but his offensive production to me lacks to deserve an extension in the middle of a season and he also is out of the lineup very often with injuries
his combination of size and skill suggests a higher ceiling I can totally understand why Stevie extended his deal. Plus he’s, what, like 24? Why not keep that guy around
Rasp is a good 6 foot 6 young player that I really like and happy he was extended. Holland took him 9TH overall which was a reach, but he can help this team for a long time!
Raymond, Larkin, Edvinsson are literally the only untouchables in my eyes. Anyone else on the team gets traded I won’t blink an eye. Raymond growing up before our eyes is the only positive this season. Give him an “A” Other than that it’s been another underwhelming season… I’m concerned about our coaching staff, scouting staff, and honestly a little of yzerman. VERY concerned about free agency signings more than anything and a congested roster - now a lot of dead weight. Very concerning. Also Yzerman reading the riot act should tell everyone how soft this team is too.

This is not a playoff team. Coaching, defense, goaltending. All 👎. Maybe next year.
"Simple, predictable game..." says Lalonde. Only problem is that style doesn't work in today's NHL. Too easy to play against. Need bigger, faster, stronger D men and forwards who understand the term "backchecking". The Ghost is a -19 !!! He's supposed to be a D man. Move him up to wing because he can't play solid D. Fabbri, Veleno and Perron are defensive liabilities. I know it's an old stat that nobody likes anymore but when you have 13 of you top 18 players with a minus in the +/- it tells me your system is for shit.
What kind of lines did I see out there for overtime 🤦🏾♂️ David P is a sellout… JT is literally a blank piece of paper… Copp should just not even been on this squad! I mean newsy are playing these guys outta favoritism it has to be and I’m stuck wondering why we are mixing these guys in the second and first line last night was a bad idea for a coach mannn! Ughhh makes me so annoyed..!

I think Lalonde is the reason we collapsed. He screwed the lines when Kane came aboard. We were top offensively in the league before him then crumbled. I get it, a new addition like that will throw a wrench into things and it takes some time getting it right but he still hasn’t got it right. Debrincat was a point a game until the lines got shuffled. I feel Lalonde lost the locker room respect in a way and guys aren’t putting everything on the line for him. The “passengers” as you said it are just going through the motions without any emotions. God bless Raymond, Seider and Larkin. They are giving a 110%.
When your season is on the line .....2nd line looks terrible, checking and blocking shots is dismal. YZERMAN, defense when Crosby skates to net with no coverage f ing terrible. PLEASE, we fans want to see EFFORT and PLAYOFF HOCKEY. THEY ARE PLAYING SHITTY. GOALIE 5 out of 10 games your in the game. LETS GO READ WINGS...TO PLAYOFFS not to GOLF COURSE
Kane has been good but he killed this team. Everyone was a driver before we signed him. Once we signed kane everyone else took a back seat expecting kane to be mcdavid. They sit around and watch in awe. After watching Debrincat the 2nd half of the year i am sad he is only 25% done with his contract. Wish he was 3/4 done.
It wasn't Kane. Try goaltending.

Michigan - Loses 4 games per year for 25 years straight before they decide to cheat. Entire staff, roster, and academic faculty fled for the Bahamas before the feds come knocking. Opening the season as 17.5 point dogs to Ohio State 🏆
Bonus round: Detroit Parks & Rec department - The new "Hollywood sign" along 94 looks like dogshit from Temu. Consolation prize since it hasn't been stolen yet🏆
