Give Kane 2 more years.
2 year/ 5.5
Allow the young boys to get experience from playing with him.
But if he wants a cup contender or money that is his decision
I would give Kane any amount we can afford, for any length of time he is willing to stick around (within reason). The reality is that it probably isn't the team's decision if he comes back or not.
On the one hand, he says that he likes playing in Detroit. On the other hand, now that he has proven that his hip isn't a problem, he could sign with another team for more than Detroit could afford to pay him, or he could sign with another team which has a much better chance than Detroit of winning another Stanley Cup before he retires, or both. The question is if he likes playing in Detroit enough to forgo these opportunities.
Kane referred to the Wings as “They” in post-game interview in Mtl. I’m guessing he’s already on his way…
@@tedsmith7814 Kane will finish career with Bedard, he won't resign.
Kane is gone next year. This year was a good choice for him to come to Detroit and rehab his hip surgery and not worry about playing hard physical playoff hockey. Now he can spend the summer in the gym and sign with a contender next year. Listen to any of Kane's post game interviews, he never says anything about next year with Detroit, he never says "we" or "my team" its always like he's talking about someone else's team. Would I like to see Kane in a Red Wing uniform next year sure but I'm not holding my breath.
I definitely want Kane around Raymond as he grows. I think Kanes presence does a lot for young star talent. Plus, Kane still produces.
I've been saying this.. but yes!
I want Kane around. He might not be a menace on defense or even a crazy goal scorer that he once was, but the man is an assist printer. His puck distribution is what kept this team alive for as long as it was.
I want to live in a world where peoples’ fanfiction is how executives make contract decisions too.
Kane is a genius, but not many Wings are like him. Perron, Valeno, Copp, Fisher, Rassmussen, ALL underperformed and not one of them stepped up when they were needed. The Wings have ONE good scoring line, but it simply isn't enough. The second/third line players are NOT producing. Wings cannot win with this team.
@@mysticone1798 Are you kidding me? At one point during the season the Wings have the most players with double digit goals in the league. They have scoring all up and down roster. At the end of the season they have 13 players with 10 or more goals. That's more than Tampa, Boston, Colorado or Vancouver. I'll agree that they still need more production overall, but to say that they only have one scoring line is just not true.
Copp needs to go. He’s mediocre at everything except offensive ability which he has none. Not useful in the bottom 6, he isn’t hard to play against. Package a pick, keep some salary and make room for Kasper/Danielson.
He’s second on team for face offs. Probably his only redeeming factor
Not worth the cost tho
What is going on with Soderblom? I really liked the way he played in the few games he was actually played for the wings but I haven't heard anything about him this year and I don't hear anyone really talking about him at all. Is he still making the team?
His skating isn’t nhl caliber. Sounds like he had a rough start to the season in the ahl but turned it around some. Doubt we see him full time for a couple years
@@seanr.6596 Soder is a whobbler, not NHL quality.
Not an NHL player.
Soderblom is one of those players who has some extra time on his side. His progression has been suck, dominate, repeat. It makes sense that he is struggling on the Griffins and couldn't hang in Detroit because not only does he need to improve his speed, not just on the ice but between the ears, he is on the small sheet where things happen faster and his reach is compromised by the lack of space. Think of Tage Thompson. This kid still has a ton of potential and he's going to be given every opportunity. In order to earn another shot he has to produce. Realistically I think he has two more years to make an impact before he's written off, maybe 3. Giving up too soon with all of the potential there would be a big mistake.
Perron: 1 x $2-2.5
Ghost: let him walk
Kane: 2 x 5 if he wants to stay
Reimer: let him walk
Veleno: 3 x 1.5
Sprong: let him walk
Raymond: 8 x 8-9
Seider: 8 x 8-9
Fischer: 1 x 1.5 or walk. Great locker room guy and plays hard, but replaceable
Solid comment and I would be happy with every one of these came true
That seems realistic which begs the question how are the wings going to better 91 points with those subtractions? I expect a fall off next year and a lot of disappointed fans screaming for various heads.
@@bassomatic6055 If we are being honest, I think Lyon playing above his level for half the season was truly the reason where we were. Once he came down to earth, we were slightly above average.
So unless Steve Y pulls out something crazy or are young guns move up a tier, I definitely see less than 91 points next year.
Next question, when do we give up on the Stevie Y plan?
Raymond will never not be a wing.
I would love to see debrusk in a wings jersey in place of veleno
Big fan of this idea
I like that idea
Boston would take that in a minute
Man if Yzerman could pull a 1 for 1 deal, that would be fantastic, maybe even throw Christian in on it
He’ll probably leave. From his last interview after the game it didn’t sound like he’s staying. Just glad we had him while we did.
he gave as much of the show/experience as possible wo getting him for like a Cup run and seeing all that.
Ummm, David Perron started and finished the year with Detroit last year. Also, you kind of skipped over Joe Veleno there, and called him an AHL guy, although he has been a full time NHLer for 3 years now.
veleno is not impressive to me. hes just young and fast. berrgren is 2x better than him IMO. kasper and danielson show more potential than veleno. wouldnt be supprised if yzerman packages him and another player for a draft pick or top RFA
Logic says, Kane says nice things about Detroit and the Wings. Then he starts talking to teams around the league. A team like Dallas or Carolina offers Kane more money and a longer contract than the Wings, He will go elsewhere, where he has a better chance to win the Stanley Cup.
I really like Kane. I hope he stays with the Wings. But I don't think it is going to happen.
@@davids9520I think if we keep pretty much the same players we have a good chance of making the playoffs next season. Kane made a HUGE impact this season and I would really hate to see him leave.
Good that they signed Buium.
Losing Berggren is a bad idea.
Not like we got a choice with Bergrion, I cant blame him, we've been blue ballen him for years
The problem with berggren is sprong. If they keep sprong they will move berggren. They play similarly.
@@jackconrad2667 Berggren is a field general. hell bulk up this offseason like raymond and score 50 points. wherever he decides to play.
@@adamoleszkowicz8792 he plays similarly to sprong is all I’m saying.
I don’t think they’ll have enough room under the cap to sign Seider and Raymond and then also keep Kane. I think Kane is gone which sucks.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Just ask Toronto with 3 guys at 10M+ plus 2 more at 7-7.5M. Or Vegas....
They have enough money to sign all 3 for 10 mil if they wanted.
I expect Yzerman to offload a contract or two. Probably why he didn’t buy at the deadline. Keep an extra pick or two to offload the Husso, Holl, etc contract(s).
@@achildr1 I was suspecting the same. Plus, as of now, we have approx 28M to play with. Get rid of some of those bad contracts and we're fine. Even if Ray and Seider get around 8M each that still leaves room for Kane to get a raise.
@@achildr1 I hope you’re right!
You sound like the male version of my old Walmart manager. Keep up the good vids.
This is a great comment
Raymond-Larkin-Berggren (keep him ffs!!!)
Kane-Compher-DeBrincat
Perron-Rasmussen-Fabbri
Sprong-Veleno-Copp
Soderblom Kasper
Give youngsters more chance, keep Kane .
Defense not much to do about, we must wait till some bad contracts end in 1-2 years, so meanwhile give more chance to prospects.
Edvinsson-Seider
Walman-Maataa
Chiarot-Petry (or Holl, whoever is less terrible :D )
Johansson Wallinder
Goaltenders - pretty much set for next year
Husso - Lyon
Cossa
You do realize every one isn't coming back, unfortunately..
I would like Perron back at a reasonable cap hit. Kane I think walks to a cup contender. Ghost is going to get a bigger pay day somewhere else. I think Sprong is gone. He was healthy scratch in the last month of the season until Rass got hurt because he's not good Defense-wise. I'm surprised on your take on Fisher, I really want him back. Good bottom 6/PK defensive forward. The line of Fisher/Copp/Rass worked really well. I think most of the RFA's will be back with the exception of Berggren who I can see being traded. What I think will be more interesting is what we do with the glut at defense.
I agree about Fischer. I really hope we bring him back next year. Great locker room presence, true to himself, and just a grinder. You know when he’s out there he’s giving it his all.
As you spoke, "Alot of these guys are PP specialists". The Wings need strong 5 v 5 guys on their team. Ghostisbere had the worst +/- on the team.
Ghost is not nearly good enough defensively to be back anywhere near his current cap hit
He’s worth his current cap hit. He’s def is worth lower and his production is worth higher
Finally Buium is signed!
If I am reading the Berggren situation right, he played much better in his recent call-up, to the point where he could be an NHL regular next season (same as Edvinson). But they didn't want to play him too many games so that he couldn't be sent back down to Grand Rapids, in case Detroit didn't clinch a playoff spot.
GR had already mathematically clinched a spot in the AHL playoffs. So even if Berggren is ready to be a full-time NHLer, for this spring he is better off playing in the playoffs in the AHL, instead of just watching the playoffs on TV in the NHL.
he is still on his 3 year deal..he doesnt need tobe cleared for waviers. id wouldve played berg over czarnik
@@irvinepoker3187 I thought that they said during his last game that if he played one more NHL game after that, then he would have to clear waivers.
He’s not NHL ready. Too many mistakes in his game. Remnant of that Holland regime.
@@irvinepoker3187not how that works. If he had played one more nhl game, he would have needed to clear waivers
@@workshoptelescope Larkin, Rasmussen, and Veleno are also "remnants of the Holland regime". Holland made a lot of bad calls at the end, but that doesn't mean that everything he did was bad.
Sign: Gost, Raymond, Kane, Seider, (Main Spots) - let the rest walk (Main Spots)
I actually feel like Berggren may stay. Wings won't keep all the guys we have going to free agency and Berggren could fill a hole, and rather cheap. With Raymond and Seider going to be getting the big bucks and all. Berggren was/is unhappy due to lack of playing time, but that may change. If Det doesn't see that changing and Yzerman goes free agent pool, yeah he could be out.
As for Kane, I'm not sure. Sure he could hop to just about any team out there now that he's proven he still got it but he did pick to come to Det. Part of that was Yzerman but a big part was Debrincat as well. Sure he could try to get on a contender but at same time, most of those teams are fairly close to or at cap with their main pieces all in. And Kane most likely wouldn't get any big role like he does here in Detroit. Just not sure he's willing to ditch his friend and one of the few teams that believed in him while he was at his lowest point in his career. Well, that and I don't think he's ready to be just some third line guy either.
Should bring back Veleno, though he'll get a raise for sure. He's worth more than the like 850K he made last year. How much more, I'm thinking 2-3M.
If Berggren stays I would be shocked. Every guy on this list could leave with the exceptions of Raymond and Seider and I wouldn't care that much. Fischer was good for penalty killing and 4th line minutes not to mention that during Larkins absence he was one of the few guys that stepped up beside Raymond but only if he sticks around on the cheap, he will never be more than that 4th line penalty killer. Gostisbehere was good on the power play but defensively he's bad I wouldn't pay him more. Perron if he sticks around for half price maybe for depth but I wouldn't count on it. Same with Kane if he plays a full year for the same price or slightly more but I have a feeling someone else is going to offer him a boat load and I wouldn't go there.
I don't think Veleno is worth 3 million. I also don't think Copp was worth his contract either. I like Fischer, but guys like him are more easily replaceable. I'm in the minority on Ghost. I think we should try and resign him. We didn't bring him here to be a stay at home defenseman. Yzerman knew this. He was brought here to replace Hronik offensive numbers. Ghost was extremely valuable on our PP and is a solid QB who can spring our forwards. I would love to see Kane resigned. Not just because he was a point per game guy, but his presence helps the younger guys and gives them more opportunities. If Kane didn't come to Detroit. Raymond probably doesn't get 30+ goals and 70 points. Kane freed him up. I would keep Sprong if we can't find a better replacement. But I wouldn't give him a long term deal for more than 3.5/4 million. I would keep Perron if he took a pay cut. I think he's a good leader. People are complaining that we will only have the 16th overall pick. We picked Larkin at 14 or 15th overall..I think it was 14th overall. I could be wrong. I would trade the 16th and Rasmussen for the right player though. I believe Yzerman will try to resign Kane. I think Kane believes in what management(Yzerman and Company) are doing. I also believe he could sign with a contender for a cup run. But he came here because of our young talent, he believes in them and Debrincat is a close friend. I think Yzerman will make a trade, I believe he will be active in free agency. I also believe you will see Edvinsson start in Detroit next season. But he desperately needs to improve on his position play. The last couple games he was directly at fault for 3 goals. You can tell he's very hard on himself. But if we are to improve, our young guys like Edvinsson have to step up..like what Raymond did. When Larkin went down he stepped up. But, like I said, having Kane freed him up. We need Kane back and Ghost.
@@Detwhat Veleno yeah, I'm thinking closer to 2M at most. I to would like to see Ghost back. He's our PP quarterback but we'll see, many are saying he could get 7-8M on open market. Is he worth that much, I'm hesitant. I also want Kane and for the same reasons. He's a been there done that solid veteran presence that has 3 Cups. His work ethic and mind set alone make him worth more than the 2.7M he made last year. If he wants to chase a Cup with someone else, I can't fault him either. I'm picturing around 5ish for like 2 more years. Copp is overpaid, Ficher is good for something identical, he's like a classic grind line guy. Edvinsson will be a regular next season and I've overall been impressed with his play in first season. Sure he has made mistakes as all rookies so. But he shows flashes of greatness like how he scored his last goal. Very veteran like calm maneuver where most his age would just try to make a safe play. He takes risks and it did bite us a few times, but he's not afraid and that's what I like. He wants to be a difference maker and make things happen. He'll learn with time and through mistakes how to best manage making those plays.
Just get some defense for a change.
Id like to keep sprong but his defense is a liability
So we even have the cap space 😂Raymond and seider gone get 16 mil combined somewhere around that Perron a lil over 3 mil probably, ghost mid to him high 5 mil, sprong 2.9 mil, Kane probably 6 mil
Do we even*
Ghost should not be getting resigned lol
@@Kyle-Pressley so who’s gonna run the power play ? Petry 😂

Sheep in the Roman Colosseum pay for your entertainment just like all sports pay as you go on pay pay
Perron: Keep, he definitely provides some grit to our lineup.
Ghost: Pass, one-dimensional
Kane: Maybe? I'm indifferent.
Sprong: Keep. Bottom-six scoring is a huge plus.
Fischer: Eh. Pass, but indifferent.
Reimer: Time for him to retire.
imagine being indifferent to Kane coming back but definitely wanting Perron back.
do you know anything about hockey?
Perron is 3-4 steps behind the play ALWAYS. (Kasper)
Kane is the one game changing re-sign - keep him
Sprong is great at shot generation - but totally refuses to backcheck, shot block or take any defensive ownership (Mazur)
Yzerman is going to look to dump some bad contracts this off-season. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets rid of a contract and sends Copp or Sprong to spice up the trade. Kane just wants to play with people he has connection with hence why he came to Detroit to play with DeBrincat he’s not cup chasing.
I agree - there were lots of team interested in Kane - namely the Rangers who were (and still are) in a much better position at winning a Cup than Detroit. Kane knew Detroit wasn't a cup contender this year, but he did believe that they could make a playoff run. So part of me thinks that Kane would like to be on a Cup contender, but he cares about his role, the organization, the coaching/structure - how HE fits with the team. He could've easily walked back onto the Rangers, but chose Detroit. This is the art of negotiation - he's playing his part to get a good, long-term offer - but if it doesn't work out in Detroit, he's ok with walking away. But i think he'd like to stay with Detroit (for all the reasons above) and he knows Detroit will be in the playoffs regularly now on.
Raymond and Seider will be paid the same.
7.5x6
Kane will be 3.5x2
Perron 3x2
Ghost and Reims gone
Will that work with the cap?
@@crossface222 The Wings would have around 8M left in salary cap with 18 players signed (if you count Edvinsson), after those moves.
Why do you talk about Edvinsson like he’s Aquaman? It’s Simon not Sea-Moan 😉
Kane will get an extension I bet a lot of money on it
I do not see Patrick Kane sticking around to play for the Red Wings. In fact I do not see Stevie signing a lot of those players maybe just two I know he’ll try to get Patrick Kane to sign, but I think Patrick Kane will move on.
😢
Wings position themselves to trade for his brother 😂
I disagree we should keep Fischer he can play bottom minutes and cheap contract
Time for the Wings to move on from Perron and SG. Kane would be good at the right price. The Wings need a Bunting like player for that top line with Raymond and Larkin. They need more physicality from forwards and D not named Seider. They need to be tougher to play against. Kasper and Edvinson will help from within. They really need a pest. They may need a new coach too?
Veleno is a no go
Too many mistakes, should be more mature by now I sense. Time to bring up from GRG. Is he an unrestricted FA?
Veleno played c and w across all four lines. He’s young and fast and plays hard. He’s a valuable depth piece imo
3-4c at low price. Keep.
@@williamjlusk7940 He would be good trade bait though.
So disappointed when you said, "a left-handed guy." We're in dire need of right-handed defencemen.
You KEEP Sprong , Veleno has been better and better every year so depending on the demand for $$ keep him,,,Why Stevie does not like Bergermam I don't know,,hopefully they get a good return if they don't keep him,,I would but who am I...I agree with all else you said,,maybe Reimer walks,,you have Husso and Lyon and at one point you need to look at Cosa ??
Trade Kane and get Stamkos!
I hope Kane comes home and plays beside Bedard. That would be insanse to watch.
I was thinking the same thing. When the Blackhawks retire 88 they probably do not want the Red Wings at the party.
Chicago got rid of him, why would he want to go back?
Bring Bertuzzi back, resign perron to a contract of Sprong’s size, and bertuzzi to a 5-6 mil. As a wings fan I like sprong but I don’t see him as a long term fit in the bottom 6. With perron we’ll have a responsible bottom 6 winger and Bert can bring the grit we need on the top 6
Depending on how far Toronto goes this post-season, he Bert might be getting an extended offer from Toronto. And from Bert's perspective, he gets to play with the likes of Matthews, Nylander, Marner - he will want to stay as long as they want him there.
As it currently stands we have no 2nd line. Copp-JT-Ras is probably the most expensive 3rd line in the history of the NHL so its a good one yet none of them belong on the 2nd line. We have to build a 2nd line in free agency. Kane left a bad taste at the end of the season so IDK about him. I don't know how much we can rely on Kasper, Berg and Soder and what their roles are since Stevie perplexly overpaid a bunch of 3rd liners and gave them too much term . Then we have to get a competent goalie on a short term deal. Then we have to cut the dead weight on defense. Mo-Ed-Chariot-Walman are the only ones who should be back and since I don't see us snagging an upgrade in FA we'll have to rely on our young guys who should be ready(Johansson, Wall, Bium). Do the usual Stevie Y and add in some has been vets for depth. Gost probably priced himself out. But first and foremost we need to fire the pitfall Landonde AND GET A REAL NHL HEAD COACH! So 1-Fire Ladonde 2-build a 2nd line 3-Goalie 4-Cut the deadweight on defense= a playoff team next season.
"Kane left a bad taste at the end of the season"
Kane in his last 10 games had 4g/4a/10pts, a game winning goal and a walkoff shootout winner. He had the late 3rd period goal to tie at Washington and salvage a point, the late 3rd period brilliant set up and pass on the 4 on 3 power play to tie at Florida and salvage a point, a gorgeous no look backhand goal to go up 1-0 vs Tampa and set the tone for a huge win, a highlight breakaway goal vs Buffalo to make it 2-0 and help get a huge win, 2 pretty primary assists at Toronto including the game winner by Larkin to keep the season alive which was entirely a world class play by Kane, he literally threw it into the net off Larkin's stick; and then the shootout winner in the final game.
That's just the final 10 games, mind you. And for half of that he was absolutely buried w garbage linemates so Raymond could feel like a star.
Glad to see most Wings fans are less awful and ungrateful.
Deflated COPP needs to go, trade him. Waste of money. Cossa is not ready for net. Husso and Lyon will be our two goalies next season. I wouldn't be surprised if Lalonde is fired and Gerard Gallant finally coming aboard or who knows Sergei Fedorov was not renewed as coach in KHL and he coached well with two Gagarin Cup victories but a first round exit on his third year.
A coaching carousel is a team killer. Teams that have long term success have stability in coaching.
Lalonde is not going anywhere - Yzerman likes him and unless this team goes on a nosedive, i don't see a coaching change happening anytime soon. Last 2 years, the team has improved (albeit half a new roster this year), but i think Yzerman has confidence in Newsy.
@@TheG35coupe Yeah if Wings tank in their first month or so expect a coaching change.
If there’s a will there’s a way and u can’t tell me otherwise, especially when 99% of Detroit wills it.
Paying Perron more than 1.5mil is a mistake
He had 47 points he’s getting at least 3 mil
I’d love Kane back but doubt he wants back.
He litterally wants to play here with debrincat, which is another key reason why he signed here to begin with. We were so close this year , his goal was to help mentor and try and progress towards the playoffs with this club. I see no reason why he wouldn't want to try again
@@gordienumbanine But at the end he wasn't playing with DeBrincat. It was bad enough he didn't get Larkin despite their line being dominant and outscoring opponents by a million and Kane scoring a goal a game w him and Cat, when it got to crunch time they took away even Cat and left Kane stuck w bottom 6 guys.
I wanna see Teuvo play w compher, I feel they could compliment each other well
Not out of the question if other teams try to put an offer sheet on Seider and Raymond. Detroit would easily match but really lock in a bigger contracts they may not have anticipated.
Seider + Raymond will eat more than half their offseason capspace, so bringing Kane back will be difficult. If they do, it will mean Gostisbehere, Sprong, Perron, and Fischer are gone.
Love the Wings, and I'm no expert, but does it really take 20 YEARS to rebuild an NHL hockey team?????
Well, given that it hasn't even been 20 years since our last cup, let alone real chance, you should stop bloviating and get your emotions in check. Also, considering that just 3 years ago we ended the season with fewer than 50 points, I'd say we're doing just fine. You act like your children have grown up and had children of their own since the last time the wings were relevant. Get over yourself.
