Yzerman drafts the type players that are most valuable…both in playoffs, in free agency, and in trade. Two way centers, high end D-man, etc. High scoring wingers (Benson), small players unless they have unrivaled skill, and the like go later. Yzerman has missed some picks already (everyone does) but has already done better in 5 years than Holland did in his last 15.
Nazar isn’t really Yzerman’s type of player. This is a similar argument to Danielson vs Benson (or to a limited extent Edvinsson vs Eklund, though that mixes positions). Yzerman has said he drafts for the playoffs.
1 nhl goal=mistake.
Probably think Conor Geekie will be the most productive of the three but I'm not the judge of talent that SY is !!
I’ll admit I wasn’t thrilled with the Kasper pick at the time but that “Tkachuk under your skin skill player” is proving more valuable by the season. I’m excited to see what he can do. Especially with the group brewing around him.
People forget that Casper has an edge to him, kind of Tkatchuk type player.
But he’s not a tkatchuk.
I am thinking more along the lines of Zetterberg type edge. So responsible and able to read the play he foils even the best. Just remember when Henrik lifted Sydney Crosby's stick in the 2008 playoffs, enough to make Crosby attack him after the game. Enough for Crosby and Malkin to attack Zetterberg in game 1 of the 2009 playoffs.
Kasper can some bring grit to the middle six. Kid is an absolute work horse and I do think he can be a perennial 50-60 point player in his prime. It does leave a little bit to be desired at 8OA, and I remember a lot of the fanbase wanting Nazer since he's from Mt Clemens, MI. But I think Kasper will be a fit in Detroit during the contending window.
This video is useless since IT'S TOO EARLY TO TELL. You're welcome.
1 nhl goal, man? Serious?
Kasper is a different type of player.
Detroit need a different type of player.
Excuse my english.
I am from Brazil and share your videos here
Tough to have an opinion on the two neither have played a full season in the NHL. Hopefully it pans out for the wings with Kasper
Red Wings fans are just neurotic
@@walexander8378 trust me IK and I am one
In 2016-17 Red Wing roster (last Wings playoff appearance) Henrik Zetterberg (captain) was leading scorer with 68 points (17g 51a) and only Tomas Tatar had goals in the 20's (he had 25 goals). So if Marco Kasper can get close to what Zetterberg did back then and be a solid 200 ft competitor I would take it. But after all we are talking about the future, who knows? I just want to show that there can be different perspectives about a players ceiling because how they FIT on a team roster and culture is a pretty important factor that is never assessed (and maybe cannot be). Additionally, Kasper comes from Europe which is a different style of hockey that has to be rationalized over a term in the minors for Kasper. Keep it real Lego
Steve should have gone with Kasper. Oh wait, he did. What are we talking about then?
Also kasper would of did very well this year if he played on the team stevie likes to develop guys longer we know this and he is a extremely hard worker him and danielson will be our centers of the future and even can play wing if we need them too
I'd say I'd care more if we wiffed on a top 3 pick and someone like Nazar at 14 gets picked. As I see, Kasper has time to develop and as long as he becomes a serviceable, preferably top 6 or 9, guy then thats exactly what we got him for.
The bigger mistake is the habs trading the Nazar pick if that's what we wanna talk about
We know not to doubt stevie kasper will be a good player he knows how to draft i trust him
Kasper has developed nicely. I think it WAY too early to regret this pick for the red wings.
The wings could use a 2/3C with lots of grit, in a couple years. He’ll fits our needs
Kasper is a way better pick than Zadina . . .
Nazar was playing on the PK for the Blackhawks couple times
Lego, the last Kane tweet could be a decent video topic...
Nazar scored 1 nhl goal.. way to early to tell
Kasper was the correct choice!
Reminds me like seider pick everyone was hating on him now they love him 😂
@@donavanallen1745 Not everyone. My buddy and I watched the draft live and when they picked that big German defenseman (something we've needed) we both high fived. My buddy said, do you know who he is, and I said no, I don't know much about him, but Stevie Y knows and that's good enough for me.
@@moappleseider1699 yzerman built a great team in Tampa they have to give him credit and a chance and let him cook and let the prospects warm up
@@donavanallen1745 Exactly
Remember Kasper was learning to play on the smaller ice.
If we use the hindsight justification logic, then we could make a case for just about anything.
You ignored NHL Central Scouting having him at #5..
I like how you admit the click bait title, lol, you rock, Lego!
Yes, no! Yes, no! Yes, no! Yes, no! Easy to argue the pick after the draft You make a pick, you live with it1
Even if nazar is better. Mazur will probably end up on the team second or third line. If he produces at a reasonable rate at that position then all good.
He’s going to play witvlh bedard obviously
I'd rather have Savoie or Geekie
Lmao let them both play a few more years before we have the conversation
tbh I was hoping for Nazar during the draft but I am happy with Kasper
also the reason why Blashdril posted that is because he's a dumbass UofM simp
Here's a thought, lets wait till these guys have more than 3 games played to judge who is better. I'm sorry but comparing 2 guys, 1 of which has played the same amount of nhl games as I have, is ridiculous.
It's way to early to make that call.
Kasper is going to be a better player than they think. He has a two way game and Chicago has been letting the young players play, SY is not looking at the big picture and should be on the Roster now.
Not Yzerman's mistake what Kasper did just one game in the NHL for 2 seasons, it's Lalonde's misdoing. This season only four players from AHL played in NHL: Edvinsson, Berggren, Aston-Reese and Czarnik. Lalonde needed to call up the entire Griffins trio Berggren-Mazur-Kasper to the RW for practice with big boys and show team's depth, especially when Larkin is out and Detroit team struggles in attack and in need of freshness in roster. I dunno how Yzerman will keep this trio in the team if Griffins will win the Calder Cup and Berggren will request corresponding contract and/or place in the red-white team.
I still think he should have picked Nazar. I'm not trying to hate on Yzerman or Kasper for that matter. I thought Mo was a great pick at the time. I thought Danielson was fantastic. I just feel like Detroit needs a guy like Nazar who can transport the pick across center and create offense. Right now Danielson is the only option I think could be a 2c if he develops well. I saw Nazar as a possible contender for that slot. I don't think Kasper is a bad pick, I just think Nazar is better and I haven't seen enough to convince me otherwise.
I wanted Matthew Savoie
frank "the laser" nazar!!
Maybe Nazar is the better player but Kasper could be the player we need. Who knows this is way too early to say.
Way too early to make that call
Every GM makes plenty mistakes
So Red wings picking #10 ranked Kasper at #8 was a reach and #15 ranked Nazar at #13 was a steal. Makes sense.. 😂
Might aswell wait a few years before making this type of video.
Lego you're a drama queen bud, the wings don't need scoring, they need what Kasper is going to bring them when he's ready next year: sandpaper player who will get under the opposing teams skin, who plays a responsible game, isn't afraid to drop the gloves, and who can score the dirty goals the wings sorely need. You're very wrong on this, but I think you just like to stir the pot brother.
Kasper is just like the friendly ghost, nowhere to be found on the Red Wings roster
I would not be happy at all with 40 to 45 points a season out of a top 10 picks.
Oh wait you'd prefer Nazar or Savoie who will not help you to win cups without a C like Kasper around them too bad... hopefully you're not a GM Lol what a terrible hockey mindset
@@user-ed6nt1ml6p two-way bottom 6 forwards are a lot easier to find than top 6 forwards or top 4 defenseman. Higher draft picks should be used on the latter.
@@UchihaItachi1986 plus you're terrible at scouting lmao worst case scenario Kasper would be middle 6 C but more likely would become a 2C he has more offense that most of so called experts thinks
@@user-ed6nt1ml6p I really hope you're right
Nazar by a country milk
Mile!!!
You're losing what little credibility you! Give it some time you'll probably choke on your words
One mistake was drafting S.Cossa over J.Wallstedt
Still too early to say. Wallstedt has one NHL start to his name and he got shelled. Cossa just had a great year in Grand Rapids and shut up a lot of naysayers.
@@europason2293 Cossa has a slightly better Save % (913 to 910) and GAA (2.41 to 2.70) than Wallstedt this season in the AHL so right now they're about even.
@@swen1208 True, but Iowa is substantially worse than Grand Rapids, so I am curious to see how Wallstedt would have performed on the Griffins had he been drafted by Detroit. Though it is worth mentioning that Cossa posted a slightly worse GAA and slightly better SV% than Askarov, who plays for the top team in the division.
Either way, Cossa had a great regular season, and its laughably premature one to say whether the draft pick was a mistake.
Yes he did. He’ll be another Joe Valeno if not worse and Danielson won’t even make the nhl. The guy can’t even score in the WHL what an atrocity of picks
Do you actually watch WHL games or just stare at stat sheets? Danielson has been a monster for Portland since being traded, and has been one of the most valuable forwards during their playoff run. You're crazy if you think Danielson won't be on the NHL roster at some point. Did you even watch preseason? He was arguably ready to get at least a nine game stint this year if the roster wasn't already overcrowded.
@@europason2293 12 goals in 28 games in an easy league ain’t gonna cut it for a top 10 pick. He simply needs to figure out how to produce and fast. Having heart and being a hard worker isn’t good enough
@@hockeytalk13 Again, have you actually watched the games, or do you just look at stat sheets and pretend that tells the story? He has elite playmaking ability, and that was something that was on full display in the preseason last year.
@@hockeytalk13 If you have such a boner for stat sheets, just take a peek at what he's been doing in the playoffs for Portland. He's gonna win MVP of the tournament if they win the WHL Finals.
@@europason2293 Cool story! Just remember that Adam Erne, Joe Veleno and zadina did all that and even more in the CHL. he should be tearing this league up and he isn’t. He’s gonna be worse than Zadina. Obvious bust. You’ll see eventually I guess
Kasper is the type of guy who can shut down players like Nazar in a 7 game series. Sam Bennett / Marchand style player who prob lands somewhere in between.
NHL GMs value these guys more than they do players like Berggren
