It's a byproduct of getting a liberal arts education from a university that espouses a pharmaceutical driven biochemical imbalance that leads to rioting and acting like deviant children when their college teams win or lose. Don't send your kids to college for their education unless you want them to be miserable drinks or drug addicts who have no purpose other than to recruit others into their downtrodden horde. Thank you Mike for expressing my exact feelings on this team. If Lalonde is not gone next season, expect the same results. Not addressing your players in the locker room after games is like a film director not giving actors direction and always using the first take.

@@user-rq1rx9oi8l I watch the games? lol They went 5-15-3 and lost 7 in a row including 2 to the Coyotes when their season was on the line. Petry cost them countless games and he never got sat. Czarnik had one of the worst giveaways in the history of the league and gets promoted to the 2nd line the next game.

Since day one, I said LaLonde was a big downgrade from Blashill. LaLonde's energy doesn't match the energy of the players.

Gallant is a 2 year coach who has been run out of town by the last 3 teams he has coached. There's a pattern that suggests something negative behind the scenes that no one else knows about.
Gallant is know for running prospects into the dirt. Gallant would be the worst option.

Line combos don't matter when the team is trash. One good player doesn't make a team better. We need improvement in multiple positions. This roster is years away from being a legit threat
You're a casual and that's alright. If Kane does leave in the off-season like you're suggesting, it will be to make more money then we're paying him. 35 years old and still getting pay raises. And that invisible Debrincat showed up seemingly out of nowhere last game with 3 assists. Once he was on a balanced line of course, but yeah that probably had nothing to do with it. Sometimes you gotta think about it and not just blurt out random things you've heard other people say.

An debrincat wasn't brought here to be a playmaker. He is supposed to be a sniper. And he has been beyond disappointing the last half of the season when it mattered the most he disappeared. You cant argue this. Stats prove it. This team won't look the same next season anyway. Hopefully yzerman moves some of these pylons out.
I agree. As a coach you need to push your team to be better and show the people who support you that you’re pushing the team to be better… even if the team doesn’t get better you have to push across that you’re trying.

That comment whether he meant it or not was not acceptable. No point in moving on during the last 3 games but Yzerman will hopefully fire him or have him step down in the off-season. There are better long term options. My pick is Larionov but he doesn't have a long coaching record. He's a more stoic Scotty Bowman type coach.
He needs to be replaced, but I'm afraid he is going to be allowed to come back.
First winning season since 2015-16. He will almost certainly be back.

Good points! But Lalonde's deeper failings are that the team continually plays bad fundamental defensive hockey - give-aways in your own zone, failure to back check and pickup your man, poor switch offs, two people chasing the puck behind the net and leaving a man open in front of the net etc etc ... This stuff is taught in pee wee hockey. Get the basics right and you add 10 wins!
Chris Ilitch won't allow Lalonde to be fired. He's so cheap that he won't want to pay him for the final year of his contract if he isn't the coach.

Bottom line for all those people who are maligning yzerman and lalonde is Detroit didn't have a good enough roster last year and they don't have a good enough roster this year. Detroit missed one gem in the draft in 2019 and that was not selecting Quinn Hughes and getting zadina, that's a big miss but aside from that there hasn't been any immediate impact players that Detroit could've drafted since then, and Quinn Hughes alone would not solve all of Detroit's problems, so you're forced to sign free agents who are available and who want to come to Detroit,problem is in this day and age the winged wheel does not carry that much weight for high priced free agents who are the first pick in the litter. Because in order to get those guys you have to prove you're a Stanley cup contender, in the meantime you let your prospects develop instead of bringing them up too quickly and killing their confidence only to turn out like zadina did. Look at what happened to Berggren, he'll probably never be good enough for this team, and most likely he'll be a bottom 6 depth scorer not expected to play defense on another team, which isn't what the wings need. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is at this point, Detroit is not a destination point until they start showing they're worthy again, on the roster they had last year who is an impact player this year for another team? Nobody, if they resigned bertuzzi, a lifetime second line maybe 3rd line player, they lose out on retaining more promising prospects who will possibly contribute much more significantly than he ever would. So it's a catch 22, you have to start winning before you can attract free agents that won't kill their salary cap and who will want to stay more than a year or two, and that's not gonna happen with this current roster, and this may be the same thing next year, that's why I believe lalonde said they may not have this opportunity next year, it's a warning to the veterans that aside from Larkin Seider and Raymond they're all trade bait because they haven't done enough to prove they should be kept. Fans have to be realistic about this but they're not, because they're spoiled by the lions who had one good playoff run last year after 50 years of sucking big time, and for older fans because they've been spoiled with the 4 cups they won from 97-08. Realistically this could take another 2-3 years before they're in the running for a cup, unless they get lucky and Danielson, pellika, and cossa develop within the next 2 years. This is how it works in the NHL, there's not any zetterbeg and datsyuk late round draft picks anymore because scouting is too good and there's basically only 3 positions to scout. But if people want to continue to cry like babies then I welcome them to go support New Jersey, Ottawa, and Buffalo, 3 teams who have underperformed for having as many top 3 draft picks as they've had, and who are in a worse position than Detroit right now. These guys are 🤡 shoes who even admit they don't know anything about hockey and they like to fester hate, which is typical of Detroit media.

I’m 40 and have been a fan since the tail end of the dead wings era/beginning of the glory era, so 92/93 season.
I didn’t suffer the majority of the dead wing era the way many of us are now, and I agree we were spoiled with those four cups.
Life is cyclical, and so are sports.
There’s no reason to get complicated about this. It’s just going to take more time, and they’ve been slowly improving season after season since Yzerman became GM.
All good things to those who wait.
The goal tending is bad. I bet Osgood right now could do better, I mean he still looks 28ish. Maybe I’m reaching, but the Wings collapse is a hard pill to swallow especially since it looks like all I got to look forward to this summer is stranded base runners.

Two absolute facts:
- This team's roster does not have any business being in the playoffs. It's Patrick Kane (who is only in town because no playoff team wanted to risk him not coming back from injury) and a USHL team. The Saginaw Spirit would mercy rule this team.
- In Coach Gru's defense.. That 1 point did absolutely keep the ship from sinking, which is the only reason the team has a reason to go to practice this last week of the season. If they didn't force OT to get a point, the team's moral and odds of making the playoffs would be shorter than a JJ McCarthy pass.

Maybe hire a coach that isn't bald next time yzerman. Or look all over for a coach, not just the tb tree. Blash, lalonde-no difference. they both suck. And wing re-build was hampered by no lottery boosts to get those impact players at the top of draft. No reason as bad as wings were in '19-'20 to get dropped to 4 in draft so rags could get top pick, the highest wings have drafted in the '17-'23 re-build years. Holand blowing it with zadina over q. hughes didn't help as well. Yzerman has put an old roster with small guys that don't play d like kane and cat on the ice because of that. And 8 and 46 need to go. Find some quality d men and a regular goalie. Wings may be in on markstrom in off season.
