Road game octopus toss? Hockeytown is so back.
Tune in as we open by covering the Detroit Red Wings and their loss to Vancouver, including comments from Cole and Zadorov (and Zadorov's attempted Griddy to get back at Walman), Compher's goal from Kane, Petry, Lyon, & more (4:35). Next, a dominant 5-0 win over the Calgary Flames, including Patrick Kane's continued production, goals from Compher, Larkin, Raymond, and Perron, Seider & Raymond's dominant games, James Reimer's shutout, chasing Markstrom, Lalonde mixing up the lines, & the behind-the-scenes story of the octopus toss from one of our Patreon supporters (14:10)!
After that, Red Wings news on Ville Husso and Matt Luff (30:30) before we get into another NHL Trade Deadline discussion: what does Steve Yzerman do on defense, if anything? Can he bring up Simon Edvinsson and move out a contract like Petry, Holl, Chiarot, or others? Would Hanifin or Andersson be an option, potentially Broberg? Does he look to forwards like Mittelstadt, or does he try a goalie move? The debate continues on (32:05).
Next, some NHL news including Jack Hughes' "people pay to watch me" comment, the Devils vs. Flyers walk-ins (vs. the boring New York version), & lots more (56:00) before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:00:00) - enjoy!

Exactly. His first half his offense was so good so I think it hid his defensive warts. He has slowed down the second half offensively and when that happens, he looks abysmal. I'd b fully onboard trading him at the deadline

Evan has been stepping up more recently and seems to be able to identify good play. I think Ben C has been solid, moving the puck, blocking shots, tough play that no other Wing can do. He did give the puck away a couple of times in the past 3 games. I thought watching the game at ice level in Edmonton he was great. I told some Detroit fans Ghost was small but they all said he is really good. He has picked up his defensive play. I sat to the right of the net with Detroit shooting twice at my end and the puck hit the glass where I was sitting 5-7 times. Skinner also made some off the shoulder saves. The Wings were in the game until the 3rd. At ice level I think the Oilers scored 6 goals that were either lucky or preventable. I could break it down no problem. In Vancouver, Compher should of scored 3 goals. If you listen to some of the Wings they didn't play that bad as what people are saying.

  • @wingshockeyfan

Let ghost walk or trade him, give Holl away or buy him out. Next year hope to see Edvinsson and Johansson. Ghost is really bad defensively and Holl is just not working out.

Dude, when I saw that Octopus hit the ice in Calgary I thought it would be hilarious to make an adult cartoon about a guy trying to buy a full grown octopus in 1 piece from a fish market and the shenanigans that would ensue but the real story is 10 times better! Let's make this into 1 of those Brian Burkie cartoons, great story! Great cause for the funds in the end!

I'm going to the 2 Griffins games in Winnipeg on March 19th & 20th...I'll have Edvinsson and Kasper's O Pee Chee Retro rookie cards blown up to 8x10 for them to autograph..I also know where they have to walk to get to the morning skate. Kinda hoping they're not called up...Cuz next year one will likely be on the big club...and they don't take a public route when they play the Jets.

Re: the Mittlestadt discussion, I cannot get behind overpaying for that guy, that whole thought process seems crazy to me. The Wings already have two overpaid long term middle six centers in Copp and Compher and so why advocate for another in Mittlestadt, particularly when it'll acquire a bunch of assets on top of the money and term? With Danielson and Kasper probably not far off from earning NHL jobs I cannot fathom pursuing another center unless they are a bonafide star that will challenge or outright take that 1C spot, I don't see Mittlestadt as anything close to that.

To Calgary: Ghost, Shai Buium, Dylan James, 2025 2nd, Emmitt Fennie [] To Detroit: Rasmus Andersson
To Ottawa: 2024 1st, Justin Holl, Eemil Viro, Anton Johansson, Brady Cleveland Cross Hanas, 2024 3rd [] To Detroit Jakob Chychrun
To San Jose: James Reimer, 2024 2nd, Red Savage, Carter Gylander [] To Detroit: Kappo Kähkönen
If Yzerman wanted to be aggressive to make the playoff.. Chychrun and Andersson are major upgrades on D. Also send Petry down for Edvinsson as well. And getting Kähkönen over Reimer would be a major upgrade in net to help Lyon. Both are Pending UFA's. Let Husso rest for the remainder of the season and hopefully play well next season.
Detroit has one of the best prospect pools with insane depth. Obviously the teams might like different prospects than others, but that seems fairly realistic trades imo..

It is a lazy answer to pick Larkin for which Red Wing is best at anything? Kane is clearly the better passer and stickhandler, Sprong has a better shot, Debrincat has a better one timer, Rasmussen is better at deflections.

Hanifin (extended), Chychrun a d along those lines and younger would be meaningful upgrades. But I agree, depth adds are pointless right now only thing this team should look into that is realistic right now is an upgrade on defense. With term of course.

Keller’s NTC does not kick in until next year. 25 years old, making 7.150, would be a solid add in my opinion. Obviously wishful thinking but on the topic of getting meaningful upgrades this could definitely be one.

Brad's hate b-own-er for Reimer makes me think he actually has a huge crush on him. I'd rather have Reimer let in a goofy goal here and there rather than Husso consistently letting in a touchdown.
