Met him and Rickey at a club in Florida. Jim was having a beer and gave up his table to us just before the show. Great guy and we all took a photo together!

I can see it now..a reality show, "Livin' a Dandy Life!". The first LP I ever heard was the live lp, "Raunch n' Roll". Fell in love with them..I only wish I had been a sound engineer then. I recently retired from the music biz after 47 years as an engineer.

Years and years ago I saw Black Oak Arkansas in Phoenix at the Celebrity Theater. At some point during the concert I stood up and gave Jim Dandy a button from my leather jacket. It read "Your standing on my hair". Jim had really long hair. He was kinda thrilled to get it. After showing the button to the whole band he gave me some thimbles that he used to play a washboard. Ah when music and fun were aplenty

Jim Dandy is one of the coolest guys in rock. Very diplomatic attitude as well. He loves his weed😁

When I saw this show in a Westport bar in Kansas City in about February/March 1987, Jim Jr. was there. Someone commented that he was 16. Does that seem accurate, Piper?

Amazing how BOA had a following, but never hit big time. Some old rockers are still drawing huge royalties. Millions $$$. Jim is barely getting by. Probably on Social Security or something. Good salt of the earth man. Does he still own property in Arkansas? I'd love to see a "Cribs" version of his house. A friend gave me the " Raunch and Roll" album when I was 16, back in 1979.

As a teenager just learning to appreciate music, I was drawn to southern rock - BOA, Blackfoot, Outlaws, etc. I have fond memories of spinning those records for hours on end. I'm in my late 50's, now, and it's great that I am able to recall those times, watching your daddy on CZcams. He's a positive force in this world, and he's brought joy to a lot of people over the years.

I worked with a guy who had been a guitar tech for BOA back in the day. I'm not sure if he worked for anyone player or all of them, but he had great stories and always spoke so highly of your Dad and all the band. He always said of all the bands he worked for, and he ran the gamut from Tiffany to Ozzy, BOA were the kindest and most down to earth guys one could ever hope to meet. Wonderful to watch this interaction between the two of you.

I always felt Black Oak Arkansas would have have been more highly noted had they not been in the same time period as KISS.

I met Jim Dandy Mangrum in Columbus, Mississippi when he performed at my Princess Theater. I talked about Jim at my Uncle Johnny's funeral in Pocahontas, Arkansas a few weeks ago I first heard Black Oak Arkansas in Johnny's car when I was a kid, so I bought the cd 30 years later, because Uncle Johnny played it when I was a kid.

Look at stupid Jan looking like she just heard the end of the world lol. Anyone who knows anything about BOA knows your dad makes cray cray sounds and just is a zany performer. The song WECTA, is a longer song thats heavily instrumental, so dad was just up there doing his thing during those epic guitar solos ...( That son probably smoked dope and raised hell. Poser!

BOA was before my time but I discovered them randomly - i kept hearing how David Lee Roth copied his entire stage persona after "Jim Dandy '... Well, I'm a big VH fan. Anyway, l looked up some BOA performances... and pretty much watched stunned and .. mesmerized. Oh my goodness, 🥰🥰🥰 Y'all are just so adorable!

I've read people trash David Lee Roth for just copying Jim Dandy . Jim Dandy himself defended Dave saying , yeah its noticable that Dave was very inspired by Jim BUT Dave did his own shtick on stage . He didn't just copy Jim . If you watch Van Halen's US Festival , you can see even f#$ked up Dave and the band didn't just play live they put on a show .

Jim Dandy just comes across as genuine and polite. Of course, his professional contacts, regardless of fame, would respect him accordingly. I saw Black Oak Arkansas in the mid 1970's in Yakima, Washington. Jim Dandy busted up his washboard and threw it out in the crowd. The washboard had suddenly become several broken pieces of memorabilia for the crowd to fight over and it was a fight indeed. The piece that I caught was more out of a reflexive reaction to protect my face than a purposeful catch. Regardless, some crazed, high, young gal bit my hand in her own weird way of "fighting" me for it. I probably would have just given it to her if she had played nice, but keeping it was now a matter of principal. That unsolicited bite was my proper entry fee for ownership of that broken piece of washboard. So here I am, 50 years later, and guess what? I'm looking at the shelf above my computer desk where I keep various oddities that I have collected during the course of my life and right next to the bottle of volcanic ash (labeled Mount St. Helens Ash collected May 18, 1980) is my broken piece of Jim Dandy's washboard. Seriously. I'm sitting here looking at it right now as I type, Cool story huh?
