  • Full 1986 Black Oak Arkansas Concert! (The Black Attack Is Back Album) Did he just do the SPLITS!?!
hahaha This one is great guys, the amazing John Roth is on lead guitar (Winger, Starship, Black Oak Arkansas, Giant) the one & only Mr. Rickie Lee Rynolds is on Rhythm guitar, Magambo is on bass, & it loooooks like Kozy is on the drums.
The year is 1986, Dad's wearing a cropped version of a killer Black Attack Is Back Merch Shirt, (looking exactly like my big brother Jim Dandy Jr. AKA Jr.) and they are KILLING IT. Sorry for the poor quality, I tried to clean it up as much as possible in DeVinci Resolve, but alas, mid 80's recording technology was NOT at it's prime and its blurry in the far away shots. I wish I knew who recorded this so I could thank them, because its killer & shows my family as I remember it as a kid. I was 7 when this was filmed, my mom n dad were still married, and life was good. I'm super stoked I get to share it with you all!
Please remember, liking the video by clicking the "thumbs up" button and subscribing to my channel helps my videos get seen by youtube pushing them in the algorithm!! SO PLEASE LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!! If you're new to my channel, thank you for stopping by! Here I document my life and how I was raised by my family (My dad is Jim Dandy Mangrum & my mom is Fancy Nancy) so I tell stories about my childhood, black oak, and give current updates and videos of dad.
I upload every Tues and/or Weds! and am so thankful for your views! Remember guys, in this day & age, to KEEP THE FAITH.... WE NEED IT!!

I saw them on this tour. 86. They played in an old vacant rinks department store building in this little one horse town I was living in at the time, chillicothe Ohio. I remember that guitar player Michael Martin just shredded the entire time, non stop. We were blown away. I was sad to have learned that he has passed away since. They gained a fan for life in me

Jim Helms I dunno who Michael Martin is, but the guy on stage here playing lead is a fellow named john roth. He also has played for winger and giant. He’s awesome. I’m super glad you enjoyed! They still play all the time and the shows are great! You should catch one if they come close to you!

We opened for them in Little Rock on Halloween, 1986 I believe. The club was called The Cellar or The Wine Cellar. I drank Jack Daniel’s out of the bottle with your dad and Ricochet. I was a long time fan, I still to the Raunch n Roll album.

They should have been on supports for bigger bands even at this time. They should have got gigs supporting Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.

YES HE DID!!! He inspired a generation of blonde hard rock/hair and heavy metal front men. Actually, it is much closer to the truth to say that sometimes David Lee Roth thought he was Jim Dandy... the First... the baddest...the sexiest ( just ask the women)... THE BEST of the 70's and 80's front men. If this was Marvel, Jim Dandy was a cross between Thor and Loki.

Killer version of Lord Have Mercy!
I wonder how many washboards he went through over the years. Just out of curiosity, did your dad ever look into an endorsement deal with the Dubl Handi washboard company? They could have made a Handi Dandy signature washboard. I'd buy one!

I think it's so cool, interesting and endearing videos, that you have done in honor of your dad's career. Really enjoyed his interviews and car rides. I bought a ticket to the Eureka Springs Auditorium, Hope he is able to make the show.

Lots of respect for Jim Dandy and a few others past their peak years that didn’t become bitter asshole bar bands. I’m my production career where I can work with decent people and no longer slug in out in trenches.

Trey Merrill the 80’s were a different time! That called for a different sound. Lol but dad always said, about the guitarists in the 80’s, “I sure am glad I didn’t have to pay them by the note” 😂

Piper Dandy LOL....I never got to see them in their prime. I did have the opportunity to go out as a roadie for them in ‘86 but they weren’t working enough for me to leave a wife and baby at home (although we separated shortly after and I regretted not going - LOL). I had helped with load-in/out out Stan’s Hard Rock on the New Orleans Lakefront and went back to the LaQuinta Hotel in Metairie where I was offered the gig (by Jim Jr, if I remember right). Your dad and Rickie were sharing a room and I sat In there and we discussed it. I got to visit with them the following year when they played at Storyville Jazz Hall (later Margaritaville) in the French Quarter. In fact, the first time I saw them was opening for Ted Nugent at an arena in Baton Rouge in ‘78 on the I’d Rather Be Sailing Tour but you’re dad was the only original member then. My favorite tour was probably the Ready As Hell Tour at the long gone Nemo’s Theatre on the Mandeville Lakefront when he came out swinging that badass sword. My ears bled for a week after that show. The worst show I ever saw though (and I’d love for you to find out the reason for it) was at Chance’s R in Palatine, IL on 6/3/88 when they went on stage as a 4 piece with Rickie playing bass. BOA can do a show with 2-3 guitars but 1? LOL. It wasn’t happening. I think Pat had just gotten busted or something. Oh well. Great memories.

Piper Dandy....in fact, one of my favorite albums by them is the Ready As Hell album that was during that era. A friend of mine from Lillian Axe, Stevie Blaze (Steve Nunenmacher) from New Orleans played guitar on it.

I saw them do the BLACK ATTACK show in York, Pennsylvania. They did the absolute best cover of Sympathy for the Devil that I ever heard. In my opinion, it was far better than the Rolling Stones. In this concert that you posted it begins at 38:00
I really appreciate getting to hear it again, but it is a real shame that the sound quality is so poor. I can assure you that in person, it was other-worldly! ... just off-the-charts fantastic!
Thanks for the chance to hear it again.
Would you happen to know if a clean recording of them doing this tune is in existence?

I caught a couple of these shows and they rocked. I was even offered a slot on the crew (earlier in ‘84 in New Orleans) but they weren’t playing enough gigs to quit my other gig. Roth was a badass shredder OK but he seemed more interested in goofy showboating than in servicing “the songs”. Magambo must have been the nickname for bassist Big Mike Fowler. Rickie had to have rehearsed this lineup because they’re tight……as opposed to what seems to be happening these days. I heard they just did a show of almost all covers at the Whiskey in L.A. How f_cking disrespectful can the new musicians be to the “BOA BRAND” (not to mention fans who may have never seen them before). To not take the time to hone your craft and learn at least 12-14 original songs??? I understand an aging Jim not wanting to rehearse but “the friggin” band (with RLR gone) to not have enough respect for the fans to have their parts down to a T? If I said, “F ‘em”, I’d be called out as an asshat but that’s exactly what this new band just told the entire BOA fan base.
