"You can't be young and wise at the same time." The greatest quote ever. Thanks.
You can’t be in love and wise at the same time !
You can if your a great soul or a Saint. They don’t make the same mistakes regular people make .OAA
Judas Priest said you don't have to be old to be wise.
@tearexxy5799 *you're
I'm old, and still a fool. But whatcha gonna do?
"Everything goes through me, not from me." A little spirituality from Jim Dandy himself. Love it
Being from Arkansas I was always proud of Black Oak and Jim Dandy
Jim Dandy is one of the best frontmen ever
God bless you Jim ❤️ You know what life is about.
David Lee Roth owes Jim Dandy a huge debt of gratitude.
Saw Black Oak Arkansas in October 1971.. supporting Grand Funk Railroad at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.. on 10-17-1971 and never heard of BOC. It was loud as Hell and they kicked total ass.... then, GFR came out and did the same, finishing us all off. My very first concert... I was turning 13 on the 27th and this was part of my birthday present. I was a HUGE GFR fan so, this was one special treat.
My first concert was BOA opened by Peter Frampton and Montrose in Portland Oregon back in 1975. Those were the days my friend.
Jim had a way of pulling you in. I didn't dig all of BOA's music but watching Jim strutting and singing had me grinning. He seemed like he was having fun
and isn't that a big part of rock & roll? I'm digging the philosophical Jim Dandy here.
What a great performer. Run, Jim Dandy!
I met Jim Dandy with a good friend in a parking lot during a load in at the FedEx Forum. My friend had known him for years. We sat in my friend's Trailblazer and laughed at things that happened to him in the past years. He was extremely nice and kept us in stitches. As of last year, that friend has passed. RIP " Chief". I'll never forget everything you taught me. I still think of Chief everyday.
Seen jim and the boys many times none better love them jim is humble down to earth keep the faith
This guy has ROCKED a few arenas;
A rock n roll lifer.
J D to da rescue!!!
Adore🤩💕. I mean. Look I can't tell you how much I love this guy❤️‼️ when I was 4,1975.. my mom took me to a Edgar Winter & Black oak concert. Was Outdoors-- I said I wanted a...washboard. and we actually found one at a rummage sale I mean dude I love Him🎼🎤🎤⭐
Always genuine. What you see is what you get with Jim. I met him twice in the mid-70s and he was never arrogant or rude. Love me some BOA!!
I absolutely love that man.
david lee roth modeled his persona after jim dandy...two of the greatest frontmen ever...but you can't beat the original!!!!
Dave ripped Jim off
so did Axl Rose
@@grumpyolddude439 Axel rose has never acted like a male stripper.
Jim Dandy, and David Lee Roth both did.
There’s an absolute shitload of bands that copied these guys. Van Halen, Kiss, Monster Magnet, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, etc..
@@thebluesrockers Axl's whole sound, was an almost direct copy of Jim.
Jim is such a friggin awesome dude, a true rockstar!!!!!!
Jim is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Around 2000 I had the pleasure of helping out with a couple of gigs in Pensacola and Birmingham. Such a good time that I'll never forget. I hope he's doing well.
Jim's grown into an awesome old coot. Going to watch some more of these!
I saw Black Oak when I was 15 years old at Rickwood Field in Birmingham and they blew Aerosmith off the stage. Jim Dandy is the real deal.
Anen
I saw the at a club called the Harbor House in Lynn Massachusetts in 1981
One of my favorite bands. Loved Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas.
Always a favorite 8-track in my Craig power-play stereo in my old Chevy. back in the 70's/80's. .With my crew. Finally got to see them play live at Sturgis at Buffalo chips in the mid 80's Jim Dandy hit
The stage shirtless wearing white fringed leather pants with 2 strippers
Wearing nothing but white fringed go-go boots. Singing Hot and Nasty.
Best concert I ever saw. Favorite songs Backdoor man, Gravel roads, older than Grandpa,
Good Stuff, just a few. There's many more. When I was a teen I had to steal my B.O.A records back from my Mom she loved Jim Dandy's voice. God rest her and God bless Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas!
You'll never forget that gig !!! 😘 🤣🤣🤣
Nothing but respect for your father! I grew up listening to his music and legendary voice!
Love them great music 🎵
Jim Dandy what a humble and real guy .Thanks for sharing !
My absolute pleasure!
He is so genuine , you can feel truth when he speaks
Hes exactly like that in reality, they played my birthday party a few years back, we had a great time , he is so funny
Fantastic front Man. Never be another like him.
Saw them in greensboro early 70s first of the 3 guitar bands that came along after
What are you talking about we already had David Lee Roth or did you miss that
"You can't be young and wise at the same time." So so true. Go Jim Dandy!
Jim Dandy is the original David Lee Roth, but better! When I was a kid back in the 70s your dad waved at me and said "HEY" at a concert! Man that made my whole week.! 45 years later I still remember his kind gesture.
In 1974 I was a young Philly girl hooked on this band straight out of the sticks. It was Jim Dandy's charisma then and now that makes me a fan. Go Jim Dandy!
Hey hey !!! ..philly in the house !! ..😊
I am 63 y.o. and still listening your dad's songs and Black Oak Arkansas albums, since I was 17..:))
I'll never forget seeing him with the late great Ruby Starr..! I heard Elvis wanted to do Jim Dandy to the rescue but negotiations fell through.. I got a few Black Oak Arkansas albums back in 76 and I used to really enjoy hearing that voice..! I'm kinda glad Elvis never covered it because no one on earth could have done it like Jim & Ruby..!:)
I have some great memories with Black Oak Arkansas music . Seen them once at the Lake of the Ozarks . It was Awesome !
Wow!! The great Jim Dandy!! What a great entertainer. I remember as a kid watching him on TV , I don't know if it was Don Kirshner's rock concert or the Midnight Special, maybe somethin else, But I was fascinated by the way he preened and patrolled the stage. At the time he was the Southern version of Mick Jagger and over time he was the prototype to David Lee Roth. The GREAT JIM DANDY!
I could listen to him talk all day.
Love your dad - thank you, Piper!!
No group could bring it like Black Oak and Jim Dandy strutting like a fighting game rooster👍
These clips are great. Please make more of them. Thank you, Piper and Jim!
Amazing! Jim still has ALL his blonde hair! I am in my early 50s and still have all of mine too! & NO grey yet either thankfully!
Real gentleman! Rock on Mr. Dandy!
I love the fact that Jim Dandy always has a smile on his face and that contagious giggle of his makes me laugh! Go Jim Dandy!!!
Saw them in the ozarks when I was 12, tore my head off happy music happy times. Had all their albums, I am so happy to see Jim's genuine smile! A true living legend THANK YOU.🏆👑💪🎸
I only had the pleasure of seeing BOA once, and it was one of the best shows ever. Thank you Jim!!
My first big-time concert was seeing Black Oak Arkansas at the Omaha Civic Auditorium In November 1974, I remember it like yesterday and what a great memory.
I saw some great shows at Civic, too bad it's gone now...
Just started watching videos of Jim and BOA again. Saw them in 1976 and always fascinated, then life intervenes. His personality and stage presence are hypnotizing and I remember again how I felt when I was 16.God Bless. 🙏
Saw Black Oak so many times, always blew me away. Big Jim was a classic Rock Star front man. What a showman. I wish I could have been him. Thanks again for the best times of my life 💖
Brother Jim Dandy “thank you so much, for your creative contributions, to the musical arts” over the years sir…rock on n God bless you bro!
Howdy,
I saw Jim Dandy and BOA in a small bar in Indiana a few years ago,I got to see one of my " heroes " in Jim Dandy. He was so kind and caring,it just made me wonderful, that someone I thought was so cool, was ALL that, and even more. What a great person. ❤️ me some Jim Dandy. Peace and love your way.
Jim “Dandy” Mangrum,
I grew up on BOA’s music.
Great band and way ahead of their time musically. I thank Jim daily for making the world aware of legendary drummer Tommy Aldridge! Just how big of an impression does “Dandy” have on the music world………Look no further than Van Halen & David Lee Roth. Diamond Dave owes a debt of gratitude to “Jim Dandy” for sure!
Cozy is a bad ass drummer and one hell of a nice guy. I used to work at a nursing home, and I spoke to his proud grandmother every day. I was lucky enough to meet him once. he sure loved his grandma. A true class act.
I am from Montreal and back in da day BOA was like underground here
Only got my hands on one album (balls of fire)
Lemme tell you I listen to that album thousands of times and i am so happy that cause of the internet I found it again and more of yer music
From Montreal thanks fer the memories

My dad was also in the high school band at the time and told me his guitars got to jam with them Pat Daugherty Harvey jet and and Jim dandy
He’s a beautiful soul . Humble .
Go Jim! Ive loved you boyz since Raunch and Roll. And I will still take the occasional break to re explore my mind. Does a body good. Keep on a Rockin Me Baby!
I am a fan of BOA, I have almost all their discography. I think it was a very underrated band. Jim has always been wonderful.
Your dad's awesome Piper. He just never stops smiling. 🎵
Great guy. Thank you, Jim!
I always enjoy watching and learning things about your dad. I need to go say hi one day he only live 30 minutes from me.
Just found his band today. Great stuff. What a unique human. Cheers from Canada!
I skipped school to go to a BOA concert in Oklahoma City at the State Fair Arena circa 1975. Awesome show from one of the greatest and surely the most underrated rock groups of all time. They should be in the R&R HOF.
Hey Piper I allways love watching your daddy talk he is one good old boy take care love yall from NC
I was in the military in 75 and I remember playing the shit of their live album. jim Dandy was David Lee Roth before David Lee Roth. I also saw them Live at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and they put on a great show.
I was there . Just a kid
Been a Fan of Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas for as long as I can remember. Such a talented and wholesome all around nice guy. Always love to hear him talk and sing.
Piper Dandy, you are a lucky girl, I have enjoyed your father's music for years, I always will.
Not only is Jim a great singer he is a great entertainer. Watching old and new concert footage he is always genuine and enjoying himself. He shines bright like the star that he is. Thanks for sharing Piper...love you Jim.
One of the greatest front men in rock and roll.. Love Jim Dandy!!
I can't think of anyone who wouldn't be terrified to share a stage with him.
I LOVE JIM DANDY.....HE'S THE KING !!!
God provides always. Been a fan since the 79’s. Saw y’all in Kansas City, Mo your dad signed my lapel on my jacket. My friend gave birth to her son 2 hours after I left the show. What a night that was.
Before david lee roth there was jim dandy
The one , the only , Jim Dandy ♥
I had a liver transplant 8 years ago. And when I was in the recovery room the song Lord have mercy on my soul was playing in my head and that song has stuck with me ever since rock on Jim Danny you magnificent son of a B$#&h
I can't WAIT to tell him this!!
Jim Dandy - Champion & Legend
Love this band, no idea how many times I saw them
If I ever actually got to meet him in person I would cry and probably really freeze up. I could tell you every song on every album I mean I'm such a fan... 45 years.... Since 1975 🌎😁🎼
Am a dude Kelli and I did get to meet him, had him sign my raunch and roll album, but I well tell you this he's a very humble man. And told us about how the picture on the front of the album came about. In other words he made you feel like you and him were friends. I been listening to this man since I was 14 years old and am 63 now and I haven't looked back. Even after Aldridge talk $hit. As far as am concerned Aldridge should be on his knees thanking this man and the band after writing this, I feel I should say. Am not gay. I just really dig boa!!
I had the honor of sharing my moonshine on his tour bus! I was about 23 at the time and he treated me like his best friend! I've never met a more real, honest and humble person. I'm 55 now and that is in the top five great memories.
I met him in the mid 90's, about as nice a person as you'll ever know!
1973 BOA & JoJo Gunne, Tampa FL. Wow, what a show! These were some young guys from the hills doing what they loved best. Jim is like no other performer I have ever seen live. White magic with a washboard! Those thimbled fingers really told the story of when electricity came to Arkansas! Thanks Black Oak & thank you Jim Dandy. I still rock with yall's albums!
He cheers us up. Bravo!
I saw Black Oak Arkansas in 1979 , it was one of the best concerts Jim Dandy you were are the best. ✌🎤
Thank you for sharing the interviews. He was always a showman.
Rocked hard in the 70s. You had to be there to know. Go Jim Dandy!

Thank you so much for sharing your dad on here...... I had heard about your dad & the band for years, & it’s great to see your dad & learn about him & his life. I’m now going back and digging into the old albums & enjoying them. Jim seems like such a good old soul, would love to meet him someday!
Big BOA fan, saw them several times in concerts in the seventies and get to meet them in a bar in Wichita Kansas in the late eighties, great people and your dad was so cool and down to earth, one of the greatest front men ever. God bless you all
I saw them with Jethro Tull mid seventys, Tommy Aldrich on drums, they kicked ass. First record I bought actually 8 Trac tape, Keep the Faith, still holds up, knew an American Indian in the Navy, huge BOA fan
Man you are wonderful you made me feel alive at 64 god bless you brother
Cant be in love and wise at the same time. Never heard that. Good food for thought. I liked Jim Dandy to the rescue.
Omg as a kid growing up and mostly familiar with the Motown sound. B O A band name resonated with me more than any other band at that time. I just wish we were able to afford cable in those early 70's
Love Jim Dandy since first hearing the album RAUNCH AND ROLL
Jim Dandy one of most down to earth ,superstar, ever...we will love you and your wild bunch forever. 🙏 RIP Rockies Lee Reynolds. Miss you brother!
Rickie

When BOA was young they did a lot of living in a short amount of time. Even tho they were screwed by the “suits” it’s hard to be regretful for the amazing ride they were on. Lord have mercy on Jim’s soul, he’s just dandy. Another Dandy video Piper, thanks!😁
Piper i love what your doing with the old man,he's always had such a big personality,my hippie buddies turned me on to BOA and i been glued ever since, uncle lijah....i know he lived to be 105...haha just like to hear more,i love that song my ex hated it i played it so much...thanks love!! yall b safe! Jim is still looking good and healthy. It's nice to see a rocker from back in the day who still has his brain intact! Thank you for posting!
I saw your Dad and Black Oak Arkansas at Canoga Park high school 4th period they played the boys gym! (1hour)
Cost $1 AND No 4th period class !!! 😘
I said directly in front of your dad's mic stand and was fixed on Tommy Aldridge I was drumming then in a band with a bunch of guys in their 20s /30s cover band we played bars and little clubs I'd always have to get snuck in but Tommy Aldridge the whole band just kicked my ass it was an epic life-changing experience I kid you not Piper! 🌟
A friend played bass guitar with Black Oak Arkansas, the legendary, George H.
George is one of the most solid bass guitarists ever.
Used to see BOA on Dixon St in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Fun times!!
Jim Dandy rocks like no other. Still remember his silver star belt buckle. Thanks for the great times.
"...Can't be young and wise at the same time" I can relate. Jim sounds spiritual and, of course, I knew that although I never met him. But, reflecting on my own Christian upbringing as a child, I could tell the signs through the BOA albums and lyrics. "The Halls of Common" was one, "Keep the Faith" with the album cover of the Bible on the shelf another. I'm sure there's more I missed or can't remember. I rarely missed a BOA show when they came to Charlotte or a nearby raceway. I had my own Halls of Common experience, but it was during an Allman Bros show in the early 70s. Lord, have mercy, I took some trips in those days. How I survived to this day is a miracle, no question about it. My mother kept me out of trouble the best she could, so I can thank her for that. We all go through our trials but you don't have any secrets safe from your mother or your Father. You know what I'm talking about, Ms Piper?
He’s EXTREMELY spiritual.
Great stuff, thanks for uploading. Jim set the bar for many that were to follow. True legend.
I love these videos of your dad. I was hooked on BOA when I saw my first concert in 74 at the California Jam and then saw them a few weeks later on Mothers Day. It is so nice to see how down to earth he is. Your dad and Rickie make a great team.
SKAY Strong they are the goddamn it duo! Ding and dang! Yin and yang! They’ve been best friends for over half a century. ✨
I saw them at a outdoor football stadium in KC in the 70's😁they were awesome.rode up to the stage on horseback .jumped on the stage straight into Jim Dandy👏👏👏 fantastic musicians and singers great performance n high energy 💓
Definitely a legend and a great guy as well. 🤘
Piper, once again your Dad made me smile. He simply tells it how he sees it. "They" say, I have no filter either... Shoot, filters are for engines and vacuums. ❤ truly enjoy these videos thank you ma'am
Jim knows the secret to life.... So wise
This is the result of decades of living, surviving and remembering all the lessons life teaches/forces on us. The sum??.....genius prevails!!!!! God Bless you, Jim Dandy!!!!
