    I mean the following as a compliment. I'm a southerner who had voice training for broadcasting. As you might know, in the radio and news industries you are supposed to have this generic neutral accent to get jobs. So , with practice, I could "de-activate" my accent. But all it takes is like 5-10 seconds of hearing another's southern accent and my brain automatically forgets ALL that training and I sound like I'm a Hee-Haw cast member. Thanks for keeping it real....

    This is so cool! You'll be so glad you have these video memories one day. My Dad was no rock star but I wish I could go back and film him shooting the shit. By the way, I can't believe some of the Rock n Roll "entertainers" in Hall of Fame and not Black Oak----Depeche Mode, Hauling Oats, Madonna, NWA, REM. It has just become a running joke. I would like to hear how your Dad feels about some of these clowns who couldn't fill up the lobby at their live shows.

    I had a gas mask with a pipe attached driving through Texas and Arkansas in the early 80s lol! I had all kinds of stuff in my back seat I’m glad I didn’t get pulled over. Did some crazy stuff when we were young.

    Jim Dandy just comes across as genuine and polite. Of course, his professional contacts, regardless of fame, would respect him accordingly. I saw Black Oak Arkansas in the mid 1970's in Yakima, Washington. Jim Dandy busted up his washboard and threw it out in the crowd. The washboard had suddenly become several broken pieces of memorabilia for the crowd to fight over and it was a fight indeed. The piece that I caught was more out of a reflexive reaction to protect my face than a purposeful catch. Regardless, some crazed, high, young gal bit my hand in her own weird way of "fighting" me for it. I probably would have just given it to her if she had played nice, but keeping it was now a matter of principal. That unsolicited bite was my proper entry fee for ownership of that broken piece of washboard.
    So here I am, 50 years later, and guess what? I'm looking at the shelf above my computer desk where I keep various oddities that I have collected during the course of my life and right next to the bottle of volcanic ash (labeled Mount St. Helens Ash collected May 18, 1980) is my broken piece of Jim Dandy's washboard. Seriously. I'm sitting here looking at it right now as I type,
    Cool story huh?

    Went to one of the Summer Jams here in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium....July of 1977...it was Peter Frampton headlining....my friend that I went to the show and he snuck in his WWII military gas mask that had a pipe bowl fit to it.....we took turns wearing that thing and walking around the stadium floor through the entire concert.........good times back then for sure.....

    I am listening to I'd Rather Be Sailing at the moment and its not as boring or weak as it seemed to be back in the 1990s when i last listened to it. Actually some of the songs are passable and would be filler on something like Balls of Fire.

    • @sinclairwhitbourne2090
      @sinclairwhitbourne2090 Před 3 lety +1

      Agree and would add that Wind In Our Sails is a fantastic song that alone makes the album worth it. I think it is the weakest of the 70's studio albums but there is a tendency to write off all their albums post- High on the Hog, which is really mistaken. X Rated is a terrific album and I actually rate Race With the Devil very highly. Balls of Fire has enough good material to be worth owning (I Can Feel Forever is a magnificent, evocative track). I also love the latest album - Arkansas Medicine Man especially.
