As a lifelong Van Halen fan, I have so much respect for Jim Dandy, his music, personality and his attitude. What a cool dude...what a cool ass dude! There is no argument that DLR took his style. This coming from one of the biggest VH fans on the planet. You you have to respect the original and when you see Jim Dandy perform live, you know there is no emulating him no matter how hard you try. Much respect Jim. Thank you for posting this video, Piper!

Piper Dandy I tell people all the time that “sobriety has to become their #1 priority.” Not no more! They are gonna learn that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing and that’s the main thing! Cause without sobriety, you ain’t gonna have none of it. ✌️

Miss Piper! Thank you for the latest post! I actually saw the other day a Van Halen video during Roth's heyday. He was and is no Jim Dandy! It's like apples and oranges! Your Daddy was very gracious in this interview and nailed it perfectly. Roth is not the consummate entertainer as Jim Dandy. Mr. Mangrum is sincere and is great with people no matter how large or small the venue is! It's like I can't sing but my late Momma had a great singing voice!
'Nuff said! Thank you for your web page and keep on rocking!🤗🤗😊😊

Hi Piper ! Cool short story...I used to date a lady who lives across the street from the city park in Jonesboro. One sunny Saturday I was helping her paint her living room. I kept hearing someone with a clear stereo with Black Oak Arkansas Cranked up loud. It sounded Great. I decided to look outside to see who was jamming out. To my Surprise, Your dad was having a concert in the park ! The park had been empty when we started to paint. Now it was slam packed with the band firing on all 8 cylinders ! So much for painting ...I was GONE to watch Jim Dandy ! That was 2014. Great day !

100% he did and I'm grateful for it. DLR added so much to the performance and vibe of VH. The band would not have been the same had they started out with Hagar or anyone of that style. I like that your dad is happy that someone was inspired by it and put his own spin on it. Both awesome entertainers.. people playing favourites miss the point. Eddie may have brought tapping to the masses but doesn't mean anyone after him wasn't an awesome guitar player or performer. Inspiration is a beautiful thing.

The original in so many ways! The best are the humblest. No exception here. Thanks for sharing, Piper. I knew where the influence came from the first time I saw David Lee Roth. It is a shame that DLR has not thanked your daddy publicly for the obvious influence. Like your dad said, people lose their identities. Never forget your roots. You have good ones, Piper!

I've toured the world with Dave. 4 tour's with VH and a few solo. This shit needs to stop. Shit? Trying to pin some rivalry between the two. Dave has not once said anything negative about Jim. And Jim doesn't have to ride on anyone's coat tails when they're wearing his coat. Dave was influenced by life. Jim and hats off to his coolness is just one of young Dave's influence's. Just like Jim says we all are influenced by other's and other things. It's on my bucket list to hopefully met Jim. It really would be a honor. I also will say. Jim also can thank Dave. Though The similarities I never heard of Jim until Dave and I sitting in my 67 Sunbeam tiger in a in & out parking lot on Sunset and Labrea. Hollywood. 1983 discussion about the next step and leaving VH. He went down the list of thing's in live he liked and how to make it and do it better. That day I learned of a guy named Jim Dandy and though I'm from Detroit. Jim's from The other world of the Mitten (Michigan) and Dave a few hours Directly South In Bloomington Indiana. It's something in that great lake water and soil in that area of Midwest that breeds a certain breed. You relate and connect. Like a John Cougar M song.. Wait. John's from there too. Along with a whole lot of other things that changed the world for that moment in time. Jim was a certain time that I never even knew about even after many world tour's and personal days and night's with Diamond Dave. The man isn't an act. Maybe the moves on stage that's part of the show. F+×king people say it's an act and Dave is trying to act just like Jim. Bullshit! That guy is Dave and Dave all the time. Not Jim. So I say also this. Dave respectively gives a nod to Jim, James Brown, my Uncle Dean Martin and Frank, rat pack, Barnum and Bailey, Cool and the Gang, three Stooges all to name a few influences. Dave also took Kook and the Gang on tour.. I ask Dave who's Jim Dandy? A cool guy that gave it up, I wish he didn't. I'd love to take him and all of those I liked on tour. So. Dave and everyone else is influenced and imitate our surroundings, just as Jim did. Otherwise Jerry Lee Louis, and My Uncle Joe Esposito Elvis Presley best friend and tour Mgr want to know when are the estates of Each going to get the credit for him Stealing there shit? Stop it! Because if you want to compare who did the imitation best? Like everything else, follow the money. Who has more because you know why? They did it the BEST! Since learning of Jim and watching Interviews and performance I love that guy. Jim doesn't need to live on David lee Roth ripped him off. That would be ridiculous. If that was the case, why didn't Jim come out and show who's the man? I mean c'mon. Tommy his drummer is no joke. He's played with everyone. And I personally was influenced by him. Year's before I knew who Jim Dandy is. Not was.. If Dave ripped Jim off, I ask why Jim never put the band together and show who the real deal is. We'd get Elvis and Jerry Lee to open then When Diamond David came out He can do like he did the day he did in my Sunbeam Tiger that warm sunny afternoon in Hollywood.. He'd say Thank you. To Jim, Elvis and all other great things in life. People say thing's out of jealousy. Those who are someone and actually did thing's don't need to. Like Jim. His Jim Mother Fu÷king Dandy. Not The poor guy who got jacked in a parking lot in LA. Jim. If you're alive and I hope you are. You got the music in you. Dig deep brother. Let's do it. Your more then the guy showing his chest dressed in white like Elvis. Blonde bleached hair Jerry Lee or Diamond Dave's teacher. You're Jim Dandy! Just like I told Dave. Who gives a shit if you can't sing like you did once before. Walk out there and just put your band's in the air and listen to that crowd brother.. I would announce Jim the same way I did Dave. They don't need to be announced. People know who they bought the ticket for.. I walk out grab the Mic. The man, NO Myth he really did the shit. Jim Mother F×+king Dandy Mother F×+kers!!! Let's hear it! Jim walks out, goose bumps just as I have now and everyone stands and applauds and Jim holding back the emotions says to himself. I never would of thought, but inside Jim Knew. What the he'll have I been doing? Break into song. Jim. C'mon out, we love you and Your student David lee Roth too.

Hey Jim, I doubt you remember me or my band, Hemp Noose. We opened for you guys in Mayfield, KY back in 2017. It was great meeting all of you. I wanted to pass on my condolences for the loss of Mr Ricky Lee Reynolds last year. It touched my heart when you two did a couple of acoustic songs and you told the crowd how he had stuck by you through all of it, the whole time. I have some life long friends that I can't music with anymore because they had to go on ahead and setup the gear for the music we'll get to make when we see each other again some day. I really learned to respect you that night because you've continued to keep on jamming for all of these years.
I really appreciate your attitude towards David Lee Roth. I don't think that there is any doubt you influenced him. Sure, he took it and made his own thing but a nod towards our influences is always kind . Cheers good sir.

While it’s true that David appeared to be influenced by Jim there are millions of people who are influenced by those they see as heroes In the trade they choose.
John Bonham was influence to many along with Hendrix and Jim Morrison.
The music industry will forever produce these heroes for our youth to copy in some manner but I think its more of a way of saying thank you.
Can Jim Dandy be Jim Morrison no nor can it be the other way around but I believe they share a mutual respect for each other for their commitment
Black oak Arkansas was indeed committed to their music as much as we fans were to them.
The music shall never die nor the memories that came with it as we all grew together.
