    Hey dudes! Welcome back and if this is your first time here, then PUT ON YOUR SEATBELT COS IT'S A WILD ASS RIDE!! HAHAHA This weeks video is some rad amazing found footage of a VH1 Van Halen Documentary from the mid 2000's. It basically says what needed to be said lol. But of course, In natural dad fashion, he stays humble and nice. (My dad rules) I positively adore when he shrugs it off lol.
    BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG NOW...... I'm a girl after all, lol so don't think I don't love the shit outta some David Lee Roth hahaha cos I DO. He's fabulous, even to this day. Shit, I saw something he pulled on my google feed last week that made me laugh til I cried hahahaha Gotta love Diamond DAVE!!
    Cheers kids, until next week.... and as always, PLEASE remember.... Keep the faith! WE NEED IT!!

    I Love how he said, " I Really love him. I love watching him. He's Entertaining to me. " Jim Dandy Mangrum is such a good dude. It has been my pleasure to meet him several times. Some friends and I really got a kick out of watching Sebastian Bach stop his concert in Memphis a couple of years ago and say, " Holy Shit ! It's Jim Dandy Mangrum, right here watching me !! "

    Why does everyone think this is some kind of insult video? If you’d a read the about info on this video you’d see that I love DLR & I’m in no way dissing him.
    Those of you that aren’t hard core BOA fans must not know that this has been a discussion within our community for longer than I can remember. This has NO INTENTION TO BE RUDE OR HURTFUL TO DLR.

    Mentioned it on another video but wanted to make sure you saw it. But I met your Dad on Good Friday 2021. I was nervous as hell because I didn't want to impose. Was on my way from Michigan to visit my Son in Cabot AR. Was going to check out the Museum in BOA. (Closed 🥲). Was ready to leave town after driving thru. And I'll be dawned if there he was. My wife said "Better say Hi or you'll never forgive yourself. I was nervous as hell. I Introduced myself and said I'd been a fan for 45 years and apologized for the intrusion. He said "I was born in Michigan"! He was so gracious and cool. Met and surpassed all my expectations. Just an exceptionally nice man. Unfortunately he was headed somewhere so we only talked for 2 minutes and he was kind enough to take a picture with me. Dream come true. Please thank him for me for being so kind. Best wishes,
    Frank from Michigan.

    Actually, there's a simpler explanation for the strong similarities between Jim Dandy and David Lee Roth. What happened was that Jim got hold of a Flux Capacitor driven Time Machine, traveled to the future and caught David Lee's act with Van Halen, and then went back to his own period and emulated the David Lee that he saw in the future. I hope this clears things up. Go, Jim Dandy!

    I just found your channel by accident while going back to find old Black Oak videos that I watched as a young kid on tv , whatever it might have been at the time, either Don Kirshner or the midnight special with wolfman, but even at that age to me, your dad was the ultimate frontman- yeah we had Alice cooper and mick Jagger and guys like that, but there was something about your dad that helped us all remember that rock and roll wasn't a Hollywood production, and Jim Dandy was always an event!
    Fast forward to when I was in high school and I could tell immediately that David Lee Roth borrowed heavily from your father as far as the way he interacted with the audience, by the time Van Halen was selling out arenas, he became a combination of Jim Dandy, Bruce Lee and rodney dangerfield!
    It was a little different, but anyone who was around to witness what black oak was doing already knew.
    Like chuck berry said, there's nothing new under the sun.
    I love that guy to this day! 👍🇺🇸

    I saw Van Halen at The Golden West Ballroom in Norwalk, California, 1974, way before they were signed. Yes indeed, his image and on-stage persona was lifted from Jim Mangrum, and Black Oak was huge at that time. But David's vocal style sounded nothing like Mangrum, but a keen observer might notice that Roth was trying to sing like Mark Lindsay from Paul Revere and the Raiders. Listen to "Good Thing" and note the similarities.
    And there are bootleg recordings out there of Roth covering the Raiders hit "Kicks".

  • @carljacobson7156
    @carljacobson7156 Před 2 lety +1

    I think David Lee Roth has openly admitted to being a Jim Dandy fan - and patterning himself after Ol' Jim D.
    What's impressed me about seeing old Black Oak Arkansas and Jim Dandy footage, is how athletic and well-balanced Jim was - he was a much better dancer than David AND somehow he managed to never trip or slam into the many guitarists onstage with him. In contrast, David Lee had almost the whole stage to himself.
    AND Jim Dandy was a good singer, David Lee Roth was distinctive, but not a good singer.

    Piper this is such a cool page you have here! Hey I was wondering about Butch Stone and what actually happened with him and the band? Is there any way you could give me some insight on that because I've always wondered.. also it just so happens that I was managed by Butch as well just a few years back and he wound up just weaseling me for about 4 grand and never really did nothing... I'm from Arkansas and I'm a pretty relevant name around the area. I've worked with many many amazing musicians and producers. People from the grand ole Opry and much more. So Butch had me thinking when he came along that he was going to help me make it big... Obviously that's not the case.. But being in a similar position as your father with the exact same man, I was just curious as to what Jim Dandy actually thought of all this? They seemed to be pretty close from what Butch said and from what I can see on these older videos you've been posting... But He was also very vague in explaining why they didn't get the recognition they deserved.. ACDC an Aerosmith both opened up for them along with many more big names and for some reason Butch didnt want to explain why that was? I'm just curious because I have history with him as well... Anyway.. Thanks for your time.

  • @atlantaguitar9689
    @atlantaguitar9689 Před 3 lety

    Anyone around then knew that DLR was derivative of Jim Dandy and I don't recall people getting so upset about it. Sure DLR went on to develop his own "rock star meets bebop Catskills comic" vibe but it's not accurate to think that he originated all those moves and attitude all on his own. No one falls out of the sky fully formed and everyone has influences. Some are more direct about it than others. The first time VH opened for Journey we were like "oh the VH singer (we didn't even know his name then) definitely knows about Jim Dandy". Even the less knowledgeable attendeess were like, "hey the singer acts like that Arkansas guy". It wasn't disrespectful just an observation. Another example exists with Axl Rose whose vocal style was HEAVILY influenced by Dan McCafferty of Nazareth - something Axl readily acknowledged before GnR got huge. But after that it was like "Dan who?".

    4 People thumbed down this video, but I even seen a David Lee Roth video where he himself told that he did and admitted it. So there's that. he also stated that he met Jim Dandy and said he was fine with it. he said Jim was a great guy. I loved early Van Halen, it was great studio music, and Eddie was even great live, but live david lee roth wasn't ever as good as Jim Dandy, even if you hate Jim Dandy's voice you would have to agree with this, because Jim sounded pretty close to the albums live, and every time that I've seen footage of david lee roth, he was either to out of breath to sing, or was to busy shaking his ass and not even attempting to sing at all. Van Halen, great band in the studio, I wish they could have at least played one concert with integrity, but nope, not that I've ever seen, at least through the David Lee Roth days. and that's so sad for them, but Jim can hold his head high. because he sounded good live, and he wasn't a poser, he was, and is all original.
    back in 89 I worked at a nursing home in Lafayette Indiana, and I was working in housekeeping, I was the only guy that worked in housekeeping, and I used to talk to Cozy's grandma every day. she was a resident there at Lafayette Healthcare. on union street. I seen Cozy one day, but he was in a hurry to leave, so I never got to actually meet him. his grandma was a sweet lady who was very proud of him. he was a great drummer. Peace Piper..Thanks for all your video's. I love ya girl. Peace..

    David Lee Roth puts on a great show. I've always like him as a performer. Jim Dandy, however, puts on a great show, and he's the kind of person off stage, when he's Jim Mangrum, not Jim Dandy, that I would love to hang out and be friends with. He's a real person who always puts out a good positive vibe, and you can easily see he really does love and cherish his fans. I don't get that impression from David Lee Roth. I get a vibe of arrogance from him.

    David Lee Roth and Van Halen were grossly overrated. Your dad was the real deal.
