    This one is a blurry one, I attempted to clean it up in DeVinci Studio as much as I could, But you can see & hear it pretty good. Dad catching that joint in the beginning of the video is legendary and the killer virtuoso licks of that Shawn Lane solo are nuts! Kid was only 16!! Insane, This is in Detroit, in 1979 after 90% of the original line up had left, & dad was still pushing on. I hope you enjoy! Please remember, every like and view count!! If you enjoy my content, or have a BOA story to tell, smash that like button and leave me a comment below! New videos every Tuesday, & THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!! Until next week dudes! Keep the Faith!!

    I have only seen them in concert twice once in the 70s and once in the 90s but I have always loved them and in the 90s concert I got to talk to Jim Dandy and and shake his hand and I will never forget it he was just so down to earth and talked to me like he had known me all my life and I will always be a fan !

    I remember reading in a magazine that David Lee Roth stole all of his moves from a guy named Jim Dandy! That he stole the sword thing also! Black oak Arkansas?!?! Who the hell is that???? I was pissed because I was a huge VH fan. So I did some research. I found out that Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy's drummer at the time) played for BOA. Asked some older people about Jim Dandy. They said Jim was a badass. Great live act, with a super hot woman singing back ups! Did my homework on them. Total love the way Big Jim controlled a crowd! His interaction with Ruby Star is also great! I was born 10 years too late I guess. But BLACK OAK ARKANSAS ROCKS!

    Hey Piper ! Ask your dad if he remembers playing at an outdoor concert in the middle of nowhere ( Seneca South Carolina) called Charlie B’s Ranch Arena ,I think it was 1972 . I bet he has some funny memories of that one ❤️ I saw BOA at least 15 times and was,still and always will be a fan !!!

    You can definitely see where David Lee Roth drew a lot of inspiration from. I honestly never heard about Black Oak until the early 80s? I think? My best friend in school, who's a monster on guitar along with much of his family, had a cousin that played with BOA. I seem to remember a story about a hotel party that no one showed up for. So the guys in the band started handing out cases of beer in the hotel lobby rather than lug all that beer with them. 😄

    Huge fan of BOA and Jim dandy. So glad to have found your channel. BOA is One of those bands you can’t find very much information on beyond what is already now. Thank you for documenting all this stuff and giving us hard-core fans something new to look at. That being said I would love to hear what Jim has to say about Butch stone and that debacle.

    Shawn could play better than the most well known shredders at 15! He was doing neoclassical before Yngwie even got here. That kid should have been all over MTV in 1980!!!

    I didn't know it was a thing he did often at shows but I commented the time I saw him do that at the Kingfish in baton rouge. It was a great show. Might have been 1978. Ask him if he remembers that show please.

    At 16, the kid wasn't just a novelty, which he definitely was, but was better than 99.9% of ALL guitarists at the time. So that made him even more incredible.

    Music had gone all disco. they really had to reinvent themselves here or stay on the same path. His voice is better here than on the two Black Oak records. Maybe the 1980s should have seen them go like Blackfoot - more harder.

    I always wondered something. You would probably know this Piper. I've seen rock stars get joints from audience members quite a few times at shows and most of the time they've taken them and set them down on stage somewhere. I always wondered, did they actually smoke those joints after the show or do they just accept the joint so as not to be rude, and throw it out later for fear it might be laced with something bad?

    • @TheRealPiperDandy
      @TheRealPiperDandy  Před 3 lety +6

      John Welch well I dunno about ALL musicians, but I know dad will smoke as much as possible and then pass it on. Either to a fan or to a stage hand. ❤️
