Can I Call Allah "Yahweh?" | Dr. Shabir Ally
Dr. Shabir Ally addresses a viewer's question about whether it is appropriate to call Allah "Yahweh", and if Allah of the Quran is the same as Yahweh of the Bible. Dr. Shabir explains that while Muslims commonly refer to God as Allah in Arabic, they can also use other names that are appropriate for God. The Quran acknowledges many beautiful names for God, and Muslims often recite these names. The term "Allah" specifically identifies the God of the heavens and the earth, the God of the Bible, and the God of the Quran. The term "Ilah," which means "God" in Arabic, is also used in the Quran.
The term "Yahweh" is a Hebrew word found in the Bible, used predominantly to refer to God. It appears about 6,000 times in the Bible and holds a similar significance as "Allah" does in Arabic. Other terms like "El" and "Elohiym" in the Bible can refer to other gods, but "Yahweh" is primarily used to denote the one true God.
Dr. Shabir discusses the origins of the term "Yahweh," referencing the biblical story in Exodus where God tells Moses, "I am what I am," which scholars interpret to mean "He is" or "The one who exists." This interpretation leads to the construction of the name "Yahweh." Despite the name being assembled by scholars rather than directly revealed, it permeates both the Old and New Testaments.
Dr. Shabir concludes that it is acceptable for Muslims to refer to God as Yahweh when conversing with non-Muslims to emphasize that they are speaking about the same one God worshipped by Moses, Jesus, and Abraham. This can help clarify that Muslims, Jews, and Christians all worship the same God.

    Allah is just general. It means God in arabic. It can be any god. As for the Bible God His name is YHWH and He specifically told the world that his prophets would be Israeli. Just by this criteria alone, muhammed aisha pdfile cannot be YHWH's prophet.

    Salvation for Others 1This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. 2Blessed is the one who does this- the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.” 3Let no foreigner who is bound to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely exclude me from his people.” And let no eunuch complain, “I am only a dry tree.” 4For this is what the Lord says: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant- 5to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will endure forever. 6And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant- 7these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” 8The Sovereign Lord declares- he who gathers the exiles of Israel: “I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.” Isaiah 56 The prophet Isaiah declared the word of YHVH and His promise to call foreigners to Himself. Those who call upon the name of the Lord, YHVH and have bound themselves to Him to serve will be united to God's people. This is the promise to foreigners who love the Lord. They will be His people. And they are permitted to draw near to Him. This is why it's important to call the Lord by His name. If YHVH is your God then call Him by His name. Serve Him and be His people. And He will recieve you as His own. This is His promise to those who love Him, obey His covenant and choose to serve Him. This is His promise to jew or gentile. We will be one people together who serve the Almighty God. Believe His word. Stand upon His promises. Call upon His name. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Acts 2:21 This is an invitation to all. Seek the Lord with all your heart and you shall find Him. This is His promise. Invitation to the Thirsty 1“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. 4See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples. 5Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.” 6Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55

      Since the name allah means god and can refer to any god since it is a generic name it is important to use the name of Jehovah or YHVH if you are addressing the God of Abraham Issac and Jacob. Because scripture commands us to call upon His name. Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Psalm 105:1 If you want to be the Lords people you can assert that right that He has given to all of mankind not just the descendants of Jacob but even foreigners who love the Lord. Assert that right. Claim that right that He gives you. Know what God has promised and stand upon that promise. And call Him by His name. And seek His face.

If he was unchangeable then does that not mean we are all unchangeable does that not mean we have no free will? A question I also ask then is if were sent back in time to baby Hitler would you kill him as a baby knowing full well what he will do in the future? The Islamic calendar has years to come too and although we're now working towards the same upgrade as the Christian Calendar, their next Major Tribulation is coming soon and we need to learn from their preparations. If we don't at least give you this tip, it will be harsher to move forward and Islam is the Way of Ease, so here I go: 1 + 10 + 💯 = III = 001 + 010 + 100

    It all makes sense if one simply accepts Quran is a man made book. Whatever info Muhammad thought would bring the tribes together, he would call it as God's word. Example is Satanic verses. Another example is Sahih Bukhari 146 and 402: whatever Umer used to say to prophet to add to Quran, Muhammad would add it as the word of Allah.

    Hello. I am an Orthodox Christian from Greece and although the video is very informative from the muslim perspective, I have a comment about the name of God from an Orthodox Christian perspective. For the Orthodox Christians ( and Christians and Jews in general), the name YHWH is the personal name of God and it has revealed it as such in Moses but also God referred to it or alluded to it throughout the Bible. In the Orthodox tradition we use the Septuagint version of the name ( Ο ΩΝ ) and it's used ONLY to identify God. In every icon ( or almost every icon) of Jesus, there is a crucifix inside His halo and inside there are the letters Ο ΩΝ, to signify that Jesus of Nazareth is the God that revealed Himself and His Name to Moses from the burning bush. Because Christianity is trinitarian in nature, with God being One Being in 3 persons (the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit), the name (YHWH, ΩΝ) belongs to all 3 persons equally.

    • @KenanTurkiye
      @KenanTurkiye Před 4 hodinami

      Here's a different perspective nearly all of you most likely did not know before. Jesus Christ the Messiah (peace be upon him) was taken to Heaven by Lord/God/TheCreator because some wanted him dead, so God saved him (be patient, continue reading, you will see ''the matrix'', upto you to escape it). (extensive detail in folder 3 in my playlists) The word christ comes from the Greek word 'christos' meaning chosen/annointed (annointment is the act of chosing) the word messiah comes from the Arabic/Hebrew word 'messiach', again meaning chosen. Jesus did not speak Greek or Arabic or Hebrew, he spoke Aramaic. John 14:28 “I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I” John 20:17 '‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” John 5:30 "I cannot do anything on my own." Mark 10:18 ''Why do you call me good? No one is good, except God alone.'' (that ''father'' does not mean flesh and bone father, rather TheGuide/God, worship TheCreator/TheGuide/TheGod and not the prophets, peace be upon them all) So, Who chose Jesus? TheCreator/TheGod/TheLord did. To do what? To convey that there is TheCreator/TheGod/TheLord and only ThatSupreme power should be worshipped and prayed to and NO idols/conjured up god/s by human kind, be it a man, a spirit of a man, a sun, a star, a moon, a tree, an animal etc etc be worshipped in any way. Anything that is worshipped besides TheGod is a god, that is false god, hence with a small ''g''. There is one Creator, hence why TheGod, the only One deserving of worship. What does Allah mean as a word? It means TheCreator/TheGod/TheLord. What does ''elaah'' mean as a word? It means any idol or conjured up god or gods that are false and do not deserve worship of any kind, hence why Islam rejects all gods but TheGod/TheCreator/TheLord/Allah. Why are all religions in opposition of Islam? Because they have a god or many gods but TheGod that is worshipped in someway or another. Have you ever read a Quran from start to finish? That you can answer for your self. (I recommend the Sahih International english translation, it's good). Best wishes. ------------------------------- .....btw..... Jesus did preach to worship the OneGod/TheCreator and not anything else, and so did his followers, peace be upon them all. This unsettled the Roman Empire because this idea of Monotheism went against their pagan beliefs where the emperor was both emperor and god. They persecuted the followers of Jesus and even attempted to kill Jesus, even a Roman Empire servant Saul of Tarsus was out to kill Jesus. Saul never managed to meet Jesus in real life but after Jesus was taken up to Heaven Saul said he saw a dream and said he will now preach the teachings of Jesus. Saul of Tarsus is also known in todays christianity as Saint Paul, so todays christians are actually on the teaching of ''Saint'' Paul which brings in trinity and godhead figure of Jesus and rejects Monotheism. -Jesus was commanded to preach Monotheism, which he did and early followers were Monotheistic (Islamic) believing people, which later changed with the Roman Empires paganism spreading -Jesus was commanded to preach ONLY to the Israelites, which he did, but after him Saul of Tarsus aka ''saint Paul'' started to preach to the Gentiles, which is the foundation of todays christiandom. -Jesus was commanded to rule for the circumsicion which he did, but it was taken out after he left -Roman Empire in 325 AD held a council, with empire alligned 'scholars'' to decide and VOTE on whether Jesus was to be worshipped or not, they VOTED that Jesus be accepted as god (in aliagn with the pagan beliefs of the Roman traditions) and ever since the trinity became the 'christian way' (not what Jesus preached), and sinc that time the Church has chronicled how many times the ''Bible'' has been changed, verses removed and verses added to SUIT this altered idea of trinity! Best wishes, life is short. ;)

    Thank you for discussing this sensitive topic Dr Shabir! I know this would make certain people feel uncomfortable who grew up being taught there was only one written down version of the Quran. However, I see this as normal human behavior. Slight variations in what a person writes down for a sacred book does not somehow therefore negate the value of content of that book. All inspiration from God is filtered through human beings. And human beings can make mistakes. While this doesn’t sound great to dogmatic belief, it is a pragmatic approach to us seeking the divine and the divine giving us light and knowledge.

    I used to practice Hinduism but mashallah I did my shahada so I’m going to offer my perspective on shiva. I see shiva as a creation of Allah limited in his creation. Shiva is said to be a destroyer and I don’t see him as a god, but that he is human being who has gone to another realm and humans later started worshiping instead of simply learning about “Brahmin” which is the same as Allah without limits etc the vedas give light on this. However shiva is said in Hinduism in other texts to be a creation of Brahmin. Brahmin/allah/yahweh didn’t intend for humans to later say these creations were gods but Islam labels attributes instead ‘s vs s this is the difference. I respect shiva and all entities within Hinduism, but since I accepted Islam I acknowledge Allah as the one true God, as for Bhuddism I have high respect for this dharma as the bhudda taught to get beyond desire and attachment which was a spiritual teaching that actually led me to Islam, and once I let go of my attachments and desires I discovered Islam in my life and took my shahada. Bhuddists do not see bhudda as a God but simply honor his teachings, I would say Bhuddism is more acceptable in Islam as “Allah revealing messages to prophets of other areas of our world” whereas Hinduism has prescribed divinity to its “entities/heroes”

    Let me get this clear...is he saying that if the bank buys the property on your behalf, then you pay them back in form of monthly rental or mortgage it is halal. But if the bank lends you the money to buy the property and you have to pay back that loan with interest on top then it's haram??

    Can you all comment on Kabbalah. Jews say Abraham wrote the Sefer yetzirah or the book of creation. I would like to see a Muslim commentary on Kabbalah sense it is said Abraham the first prophet in Islam wrote the Sefer yetzirah, I assume the Quran says nothing about this because the Sefer yetzirah’s written form was left in fragments, regardless it’s still interesting in the Sefer yetzirah They explain numerology of Hebrew letters which Arabic also has, it is important to note that the Sefer yetzirah is the only kabbalistic Jewish text that I would consider could be meaningful in Islam only due to its author being the father of prophets Ibrahim

    Mashallah I love your videos. I am a speaker and study of Sanskrit and I would like to raise awareness on the fact that Jesus Christ in sanskirt is Krishta ख्रीष्टः the Greek kristos is even coming from an even older indo European root in India, but yes the names Jesus himself would have used would have been more the ones in the holy land such as the Hebrew Aramaic and Arabic equivalents.

    Then ask Hamas to hide among civilians . If they were not the scared rats they are, they would fight from military bases and no civilian would be killed, instead they prefer to hide among civilians and fire rockets from dense populations. And you’re all too hypocritical and scared to say that.
