Allah is not some 'fictious etheral gaseous thing' far far away, Allah is real and real and real more real than you can even think.

Allah is my friend.
Depends how you define friend. Then see if any of Allah's 99 attributes could apply to that definition. Careful not to forget your role in this relationship you have with the LORD and MASTER. Christians say "Jesus is my friend" and then tend to become nonchalant and relaxed doing whatever want not caring much about the Day of Judgement. Similar those Jewish who say they are "chosen" and then they act as if they do not fear disobeying God.

The context of the words khalil and waliy throughout the Qur'an is not consistent with 'friend'. And by the way, its obvious these two distinct words are not synonymous in the Qur'an. The Qur'an uses these two different words for a reason, so we will be falling short if we simply translate both of them as 'friend' without making a distinction between the 2 words.
Perhaps it would be helpful if you could please elaborate on this. Thanks in advance.

The idea of considering Allahh a 'friend' is in my opinion beneath the majesty, respect, reverence and awe we should have for the creator Allahh(SWT).
The root word خ ل ل (kh-l-l) can be translated as 'through, or 'throughway' and this fits very well in the context of Aayaat of the Qur'an.
According to the dictionaries one of the many meanings of this word is "enter/penetrate or pass through"
So, Allahh taking Ibrahim as a 'throughway" (someone through which Allahh teaches or passes a message, etc.) makes a lot more sense asnd is more practical to me than Allahh taking Ibrahim as a 'friend' and fits better with the concept of Ibrahim as Imaam.
You may wish to go through all the aayaat and see if this meaning fits:
khalil n.m. (pl. akhilla) 4:125, 17:73, 25:28, 43:67
khilal n.m. (pl. of khalal) 9:47, 17:5, 17:91, 18:33, 24:43, 27:61, 30:48
khullah n.f. 2:254
khalla vb. (3) n.vb. 14:31
As for Waliy, its widely translated as benefactor, protector, defender, etc, (among other meanings) and these are more appropriate translations than "friend" in my view.

A protecting friend indeed, not a coequal friend. Means on the side of God.
Spiritual people use Spirit guides or angels for their invisible friend and guidanc and God/ Allah.
My Christian people here they say they use the Holy Spirit.

Allah also says in the Quran:
﴿قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴾[ آل عمران: 31]
[3:31] Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
In this Aayah, Allah (God) gives the specification for those who truly "love" God and, therefore, are "loved" by God. They do their best to follow the path of the prophet Muhammad PBUH, thereby following the path of all former prophets who came before him, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon them all.
God also says the opposite is also true for those who choose to mock the His prophets.
﴿ ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاؤُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ بِمَا كَفَرُوا وَاتَّخَذُوا آيَاتِي وَرُسُلِي هُزُوًا﴾[ الكهف: 106]
"That shall be their recompense, Hell; because they disbelieved and took My Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and My messengers by way of jest and mockery. [The Cave 106]
I think we as a normal human being who are not infalliable to sin, we r sinners, so we have no right to consider ourselves friend of Allah. Allah is pure and he likes pure things. Only Allah has the right to call us friend if he wills. He knows who is pure and whos impure. Allah is our master, we r his slaves, that is correct 100% but in any case, if a slave is very very good then Allah will consider him as his close friend like Ibrahim A.S
Now if its ok to consider us(normal people who r generally sinful) in day to day life to consider Allah as our friend, then there's change we will take him lightly, saying oh well dont worry allah is my friend, chill chill he'll forgive us yo. I have all set with him, he's my friend he's cool.
This would be wrong, we should only consider Allah as our master. If Allah considers any of us to be his friends, then it's ok for us to consider him friend too. But the problem is we will.never know if he considers us friend. Only in hereafter, if we get his forgiveness.

So it's based on fear, you don't pray namaz because it makes you feel at peace and be a better person and keep you spiritual and connected to Allah? You pray because you're scared of going to hell? And because you need to build enough points to get to heaven? So when you tell others they should pray. It's not because you say, look at me I pray and I feel at peace and life us alot humble, life makes sense. I like prsying? You tell people pray or you'll go to hell and if you don't pray to Allah, Allah will send you to hdll and punish you? Sorry I do not believe pray is for that reason and don't believe Allah is like that. I think Allah is unbelievably loving and caring and more friendly. Sometimes you got to read between the lines.

The God of the Bible was willing to humble himself, coming down to our level to be our friend, so great is compassion and kindness. Allah disdains this and is different from the God of the Bible, the God of Israel.
Why is that you cannot speak the name of Muhammad without pronouncing a blessing, but you never think to bless Allah?

Qur'an 44 24-28 thus we caused pharoahs land to be inherited by another people
7:137 bani ISREAL inherited Egypt this my favour upon them was completed
Qur'an 7:137 moses said it maybe your lord will destroy pharoah and make you inherit this land
Isn't it the Torah that calls Abraham the friend of God? Is Islam borrowing from the bible?
