  • In our final installment of 30 Keys to Unlock the Quran's Meaning, Dr. Shabir Ally says that the Quran's significance and messages unfold uniquely through personal experiences. Verses from the Quran may initially seem obscure but gradually reveal their relevance and depth in a believer's life. This process is beautifully exemplified in the 54th chapter of the Quran, which repeatedly assures, "we have made the Quran easy," inviting continuous reflection and study. Dr. Shabir emphasizes the Quran's invitation to ponder, reflect, and seek deeper understanding through a combination of scholarly study, personal reflection, and spiritual pursuit. This approach not only deepens our comprehension of the Quran but also strengthens our connection to God.

I think it's important to realize that The Prophet, peace be upon him, received the ability to read and write Arabic whole, so fear not the lack of tools for understanding Arabic for if Allah wills it he can lead astray those he wishes and preserve those he favors all the same. Seek to better your tools to renew your commitment but don't obsess over something being needed to benefit from the Qu'Ran if Allah wills it.
Personally I've found Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran to be an admirable effort in preserving the Arabic meaning of words in the English translation. I am still just dabbling with the translation but I can sense Allah's Will operating through it, which causes me apprehension at the prospect of being Judged and reaping what I've sawn.
May Allah guide 'Us' towards that 'within us' that aligns 'Our Will' and 'His'

Indeed Dr. Shabir, Every Muslim should do their best to understand the Quran. In the prophetic narrations we find:
عن معاوية بن أبي سفيان رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «من يُرِدِ الله به خيرا يُفَقِّهْهُ في الدين».
    [صحيح] - [متفق عليه]
Mu‘āwiyah ibn Abi Sufyān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever Allah (God) wills to do good to, He makes him comprehend the religion."
    Sahih/Authentic. - [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

He prayed: “My Lord! indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me,” So (Allah) forgave him: for He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Quran 28:16) 🤍
