Why Does Allah Burden the People He Loves? | Dr. Shabir Ally

  • Dr. Shabir Ally addresses a viewer's concern about the notion that "Allah only burdens the people He loves," which the viewer says may deter people from seeking closeness to Allah due to fear of hardships. Dr. Shabir clarifies that life's challenges are universal, affecting both believers and non-believers, but for believers, these hardships are not punishments but opportunities for spiritual growth and drawing closer to God. He illustrates this with a scenario contrasting believers and non-believers' perspectives in a godless world versus one governed by God, where calamities serve as tests of faith and patience, offering chances for divine reward. Dr. Shabir reinforces this with references to the Quran and Hadith, and a couplet by poet Iqbal, emphasizing that every situation, good or bad, allows believers to rise higher in their faith and closer to ultimate happiness in the Life Hereafter.

    I've heard it said that I prayed to Allah for greater strength so Allah gave me heavier weights to lift.

    If there is no God, there is no world in the first place.
    35:41 Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease. And if they should cease, no one could hold them [in place] after Him. Indeed, He is Forbearing and Forgiving.

    This is a variation of the infamous Problem of Evil, that has been examined by theologists for all of written history.

      It's not a variation; it's the exact same issue. You've put it in capital letters, and given it a neat name, but it doesn't change anything. It's a matter of faith. You either have it, or you don't.

    • @KAZVorpal

      @@shefalichow7917 First:
      No, it's a variation. This is important because the expression of it that they are talking about is actually somewhat different then the standard version. For example, they essentially say the bad thing specifically happened to good people. That sets up a higher bar and a different explanation.
      And no, I didn't put it in capital letters and give it a fancy name, it has had that fancy name for centuries, it has been specifically discussed as if a proper noun for millennia. This is a specific thing that extends beyond simplistic faith.
      Second, it absolutely is not a question of simple faith. Islam has a long of more analytically addressing theological questions then just some kind of charismatic blind faith.
      As they demonstrate in this discussion, people can reasonably expect that there is a good explanation, and part of The Struggle is the effort to learn and understand the reasons four things.

    • @shefalichow7917
      @shefalichow7917 Před měsícem

      @@KAZVorpal No, they didn't say bad things happen to good people. They specifically made sure to mention both believers and non-believers will face adversity, and made no mention of good or bad, but rather those who maintain faith and those who do not.
      When I said "you" came up with a fancy name, I was speaking generally, about philosophers. After all, it takes two seconds to look up the term and find its lengthy history. It seems like English and its linguistic context are not your primary method. Lets end this conversation here.

    • @KAZVorpal
      @KAZVorpal Před měsícem +1

      @@shefalichow7917 Actually, the question was specifically about the adage "Allah only burdens the people he loves", which is what I was referring to.
      This is definitely a very specific spin on The Problem of Evil.
      You seem to be trying to evade my points and pretend yours were not in error from the beginning. But this just makes you look that much worse. Especially the absolutely pathetic "I decided not to talk to you any more" trope.
      Even more funny is the awkwardness of your wording when you try to say /I/ don't have an adequate command of English. Methinks the lady doth protest to much.

      @@KAZVorpal You're a contemptible individual, and that alone is enough to warrant me discontinuing our conversation, much less your lack of understanding and sense of nuance. Those are empty and transitory rewards. Temptation to test the faithful, and ruinous empty hedonism for those who partake. The true gift is in living a moral life, even if you take away any thought of the rewards one will receive in a potential afterlife, after being judged by God.
