Does God Forgive Every Single Sin, Including Associating Others with Him? | Dr. Shabir Ally

  • Dr. Shabir Ally responds to a viewer question about Quranic verses that seem to conflict regarding the forgiveness of the sin of shirk (associating partners with God). The verses in question suggest that God does not forgive shirk, yet other verses indicate that repentance can lead to forgiveness for all sins, including shirk. Dr. Shabir explains that the verses from chapter 4 imply an uncompromising stance against shirk, but this stance is conditional upon the lack of repentance. He illustrates this by comparing God's warnings to a friend's angry remarks that are contingent on whether one seeks forgiveness and changes their ways. Dr. Shabir concludes that while all sins can potentially be forgiven if one repents, the sin of shirk requires explicit repentance and transformation to be forgiven. The discussion emphasizes the balance between God's mercy and severity, encouraging believers to avoid all sins, especially shirk, and to live in submission to God.

Thank you Dr. Shabir for this explanation.
Indeed, establishing the absolute Oneness of Allah (God) is the most enduring unconditional of all commandments throughout time. Allah accepts a person's repentance from association with Him, as long as their soul has not reached their throat as it is leaving their body, as it is being taken by the angel of death
For at that moment of no return, the person sees the truth of the unseen realm, and it is too late. Evidence of this is found in Surat Yunus as follows:
10:90 And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, "I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims (submitters to The God)."
10:91 Now? And you had disobeyed [Him] before and were of the corrupters?
In the prophetic narrations, we find:
Indeed, Allah (God) accepts repentance until the moment before the final release of breath. [Narrated by Al-Tirmithi with a good chain of reference]
In the prophetic narration, we also find stringent warning ⚠️ against association with Allah (God), and abandoning the prayers.
The prophet PBUH said: Do not associate anything with Allah (God), even if you are dismembered and burned. And donot abandon the assigned prayers deliberately. For whom ever abandons the prayers, they have no covenant. And do not consume the intoxicant, it is the key for every evil. [The Authenticated collection, Al-Albani]

The apparent contradiction was not satisfactorily addressed. And it is clear from the framing of the question that the questioner may not be fully satisfied with the answer.
The only way to resolve this is to ask the question :What does Ghafara really mean according to the Qur'an? as there are several words that seem to be synonymous with 'forgiveness', not just Ghafara.
I find the explanation proposed by the Marvelous Quran Channel resolves this issue by extracting the meaning of Ghafara from the Qur'an to be "to grant reconnection" Therefore 4:48 and 4:116 can be translated: "Allahh does not grant reconnection to someone while they're committing shirk..." This makes more sense and resolves the apparent contradictions.

Without a shred of doubt, Allah is The Most Merciful (الرحيم) and of "The Oft Forgiving" (الغفور). He forgives those who repent as long as they repent.
In the narrations we find حديث قدسي (holy speech) where the prophet relays what Allah says outside the Quran:

Allah The Most High says: Son of Adam, if you supplicate to Me and have hope in Me, I forgive your sins and mind them not. If your sins reach the heights of heaven, then you asked me for forgiveness, I shall forgive you and do not mind. Son of Adam, if you come with earth's worth of sins, yet you take no associates with Me, I shall approach you with its worth in forgiveness. I don't know why you keep talking of submission to God when it is submission to His Will that matters. I never quite understood the equivalence when it is made clear throughout scripture that submission to His Will is required while submission to God doesn't even mean anything and without the former is squarely rejected if not outright condemned as Shirk in the form of taking the unsubstantiated claims of others on Allah as true, in turn submitting to a will that isn't his own, wronging yourself and spreading corruption in the land as a result.

As for Islam, are you aware that the "being" who appeared to Mohamad the first time never introduced himself to Mohamad but instead he squeezed Mohamad so much that when Mohamad recovered from the encounter, Mohamad was certain that he was being driven crazy by that being? Mohamad's kinfolk also thought Mohamad was going crazy too.
In fact, it was Mohamad's wife (who was nowhere near the cave) who told Mohamad the being was the angel Jibril-- information she got from her Christian cousin who, like Mohamad's wife, was nowhere near the cave either.

The Quran misrepresents Christianity. Christians do not say that Jesus was a partner of God but that Jesus was God himself made flesh. Every physical manifestation of God is called the Word of God or the Son of God or the angel of the LORD. To properly refute something you must first properly define what you are trying to refute, and the Quran fails at that.
