I'm from St. Paul, MN USA and have played music since childhood using guitars, lutes and other related instruments.
I was a dentist for 32 years and kept playing during that time because I love music. There's something magical in music and I almost always feel better after playing. Since retiring from dentistry 12 years ago I've been able to concentrate on recording albums and CZcams videos. This is simply the most creative thing I can do at this point in my life. Genres that I currently cover and arrange are classical and popular guitar, renaissance and baroque lute, Irish and latin, video game music, Chinese and ukulele, solo jazz guitar, Beatles and lots of Bach. My other channel Daniel Estrem - Topic has 831 videos
I love to share the songs and I hope you like the arrangements. My performances are strictly virtual these days.
Best Wishes,
Daniel Estrem

"Midnight at the Oasis" was made famous in 1973 by Maria Muldaur. The song was written by David Nichtern. A music review describes the song as so sensual and evocative that it has inspired many sexual encounters, loss of virginity, and pregnancy. Love the lute and the song, well played
thanks so much!
Dan, this is so well performed. I mean, the notes are all there, but the phrasing is SO GOOD, and the rhythm notes come out so well. Being able to do this is obviously part of your gift of being talented, but, how much time is spent playing through this before you get it just just right? Curious. As a visual artist, I work through a similar process. My acumen might be similar to yours. Just wanted to know your thoughts. (and please don't respond with, "Thank you , Michael.") lol As always, love yer stuff.
Thank You, Michael -🥴 I really couldn't be certain about the amount of time involved. I've been working on the tremolo off and on for decades and this is one of the easier pieces where it's possible to play around with the phrasing and rhythm. I wish there were more pieces like it.
I really enjoyed this!
Glad you did!

Lol, I love how youtube put this video first in a "Mix" playlist and labelled the playlist "Rock" 😅 To be fair the Eagles could be labelled "rock", though I would say this is one of their least "rock like" songs, but the rest of this playlist is not particularly "rock" either; it seems to be an odd mix of cover versions of rock songs on unusual acoustic instruments like handpans, gayageum, harp guitar (and a few of the "opposite": metal covers of pop songs), folk metal, heavy metal, and also ClownC0re... It's mostly rock-adjacent acoustic stuff and metal/metal-adjacent, and strangely _one_ psy-trance tune. I mean it's all my taste in music but I think "rock" is one of the least descriptive names for this mix.

I'm currently tryna figure out the original guitar on the song by ear. What a doozie it is!
yes, if you don't have one, get a machine that slows the song to 50% speed
Do you have a low G on this? TY!
I've tuned in 5ths - like a violin or cello I think the tuning was (low to hi) EB F# C# or DAEB
@@danbluedeer okay, so sounds like no low G. I have a low G on my uk and it seems to work great with this song. But it didn't sound like you have a low G on yours, and your playing of this song is just BEAUTIFUL! So I think once I get another uk without a low G, I will play it on that one. I have been working on this song for a very long time. I've got the whole song down, but nowhere near to the quality of your playing. But I hope to eventually get at least close! TY so much for replying.
where is the heavenly music????? There haven't been any amazing releases for a long time!!! I SUFFER !!!!

For decades, my favorite version of Luiz Bonfa's EBONY SAMBA was the version on the original Verve reel-to-reel 1960s release. The vocal accompaniment by Maria Toledo was hauntingly beautiful. And Stan Getz's tenor saxophone was wonderful. And my lucky day: Wanting another dose of Bonfa, Getz, and Toledo, I turned to the Internet and listened to the Verve recordings. Seeing Daniel Estrem's offering, I clicked on it. Unbelievably B E A U T I F U L !!! Good GOD, Divinely Inspired. My new favorite.

I first heard this song as a junior high student when it was first released and it immediately became my favorite song by The Eagles. it still is. I heard it so many years later as the theme to The Hitchhiker 's Guide to the Galaxy and was impressed that they use that song. I have never heard another rendition of it buy another artist and when I saw this I had to check it out. I am so glad that I did. That is the perfect instrument and you have obviously taken great pains to be true to the spirit of the song. Thank you very much for that and for sharing it
