- "Work Song" is a jazz standard by Nat Adderley and Oscar Brown Jr.
The song was inspired by Adderley's childhood experience of seeing a group of convict laborers singing while they worked on a chain gang, paving the street in front of his family's home in Florida.

Always been a big-band favorite of mine - love your solo guitar interpretation! Slow tempo and you make it groove.
Sean - thanks for the comment!
Never heard this song before, but I love your arrangement (as always) going to look up the original now.
Thanks for listening!
Good Morning Daniel,
Nice work! I am used to the more up-tempo version but this works really well. It has a nice smoky feel to it.
I have not heard the original for some time so I guess I will be chasing that version once I finish typing
I am intrigued as to why the pick lead goes through the "f" hole? A "Dan" mod of some form perhaps? It has a great tone though.
Brilliant sunshine here today. Gin clear skies but a chill in the air. A perfect January day. Have you guys thawed out yet?
Keep Safe, Keep in the groove and of course keep playing.
Clive
Thanks Clive,
I envisioned the convict crew working somewhat slower on a 102 degrees F afternoon in Florida.
The Gibson is the same age as I am and has taken a few hits and scars (as have I) over the years, but still sounds terrific
I believe the pickup is a DeArmond. Rather than having to drill holes in the body the wire snakes through the "f" hole.
Our snow is just about gone...today's rainy so that should really obliterate the white stuff.
We're still waiting for the big dump- winter's not over yet.
Beautiful tone from the Gibson, Dan. Any special pickup used to enhance the sound?
the only pickup is the detachable one (I think it's original) it's an L7
What kind of guitar is that, Dan?
Hi Heather - it's a Gibson L 7 archtop - quite rare, made circa 1949
It’s beautiful 🤩
