  • "Fever" was written by Cooley/Davenport and recorded by Little Willie John in 1956. The song has been covered by several artists, most notably by Peggy Lee whose 1958 rendition became the most widely known version and the singer's signature song. Lee's version contained rewritten lyrics different from the original and an altered music arrangement.

Very nice, Dan. I always loved this cool jazzy style. It reminds me of the fever I had last week!

    Good Evening Daniel,
Well I think you are trying to warm up studio with that number! Looking at your weather I sure hope that the heat is on in the studio.
I love the sound of that 7 string guitar and the set up with a bit of reverb(?) gives it a really smoky feel. I have been racking my brains to try and recall tune with a similar guitar sound to it and the only thing that keeps jumping to the fore is "Stray Cat Strut" by the Stray Cats. Not sure if they made it stateside but they had a few chart hits over here.
The Peggy Lee version is the one I really know and it became probably her standard. Folks on the Hill might run it a close second though.
Still Freezing here. -3C but no snow thank goodness. I hope you cut enough firewood through the summer as I would hate for you to have to start burning through those beautiful instruments you have! Just play 'em faster to keep the fingers warm👏
Keep Safe, Keep Warm and Keep Playing
    Clive

      Thanks Clive!
Yes, we replaced a fireplace insert a couple weeks ago in my studio. The fireplace company had a 2 month waiting period so we lucked out on the timing. It's still frigid in MN but there are many places that have really been suffering. "It could be worse" is our motto.

Never heard it before, but love the melody. Reminds me of those old school noir movies where the detective is sitting on the café, while it's raining, waiting for the bad guy to show up.

You saoule look up thé Peggy Lee version, I’m sure it’s on CZcams. I’m guessing it’s before your time (it’s from the 50’s) but is, in my opinion, rather the definitive vocal version.

@danbluedeer I should have been more clear: it sounds a lot like that Louis Armstrong song "Go Down Moses"/"Let my people go". Love the music Dan, keep it up.
