Russia's Turtle Tanks 🐢
Two weeks ago, we looked at a curious in-field adaptation carried out by a Russian unit operating near Krasnohorivka. A T-72 had been near totally enclosed by sheet metal to protect it from FPV drones. Various imagery showed the tank encased in a trapezoidal steel structure, giving the vehicle the look of a shed on tracks. Since then several other similar 'turtle' tanks have been seen in the field.

During a recent Russian operation near Krasnohorivka the so-called 'Turtle Tank' made its first appearance. In 2023 Beretta introduced their 'New Assault Rifle Platform' - the NARP. At SHOT Show 2024 I had the chance to examine the initial 5.56x45mm variant of the NARP. Thank you to Beretta for discussing the new rifle with me and for kindly allo...
Ukraine's Handheld FPV Killer?

I guess Australia lost to emus so it stands to reason America would lose to turtles....
Coregulated steel properly welded with with netting, best of luck with drones. But for javelins they have to work a bit to deflect the damage, with rapid prototyping they will figure it out. 😂
Combat Carport !
Ukraine does not lead drone production. You are grossly incorrect
blyatmobile 🤣
Wasn’t it the slow but Meticulous Turtle 🐢 🇷🇺 that outsmarted the Big Mouth 👄Slick Hare 🐰 🇺🇸 and in the end crossed the finishing first? 🤪!!!
I wonder how the tanks drivetrain feels about this addon lol
Could the turtle tank be a remote controlled tank?
In the US invasion of Iraq the US went in with humvee and 5 ton trucks with canvas cover and humvees fiberglass. Mechanic would weld steel on them for protection look awful. Hence to birth of these armor vehicles MTVR, Cougar,JLV. MRAP. The Russian will definitely adapt and return with amor more practical. This is just a test run or what works.
More likely a "tortoise tank" than a "turtle tank" as it is land based and not water based.
Russians are ahead on drones now due to domestic mass production.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It looking non standard is a feature against AI targeting which is used when EW suppresses human targeting. And turtle tank includes EW.
I don't know how prevalent AI targeting is on UA FPVs yet, I recall some tests confirmed earlier this month. Interesting thought, would be intriguing to know if the AI can be spoofed that way.
It also messes up AI targeting, which is especially relevant with EW suppressing direct human control on terminal stage.
I think it's just too little too late.
I wonder if a cover made of chainlink fencing would be better suited for this application. The fencing would give the occupants a better view.
It almost seems to be the same in principle to a medieval seige sow, which was basically an amored shed with wheels sappers used to protect themselves from arrows and projectiles as filled in moats and pickaxed walls. Although I'd presume that the EW devices (the drone jammers) probably do a lot more of the heavy lifting than the shed thing.
it's a mobile tank home 😛
It's great, but funny. Cross of MadMax and Warhammer 40k orc tanks.
It's the killdozer II!
You could raise your own chickens and have fresh eggs
As stupid as it looks this is probably the future of current generation tanks. EW and active defence systems might be a while off and not sure they want to let enemy get a hold of such systems by using on such a battlefield.
So the drones kill the supporting vehicles and now the remaining tank is blind and an easy target for enemy tanks or even anti tank weaponry. afterall, if a metal skirt was still useful to protect from hand held anti tank weapons, all tanks would still use them. they basically turned a turreted tank into a fixed turret tank but without the turnspeed of say the swedish lowrider
That's a convenient way to help align a shaped-charge in an improvised magnetic limpet mine...
Those tracks looks pretty yummy
Russians basically reinvented BMP, except this time turret can't move and can't support infantry.
Shame on the Russian bureaucrats, the tanks should have been fitted with spaced armor plates in the factories a year ago and done right with separate rotating armor for the turret.
Blyatmobiles! 😂
it's look like it was made from recycled cartons
Given the significant heat coming off the engine, it’s going to be toasty in there.
I like the Blyat Mobile.
this is typical russian mind: ie. ad hoc test and try ideas to adapt. It's common in many practical aspects of live, and in this case by guys at the front line. What is used much more by now are nets over tanks (with some additional armor padding) and different types of vehicles, after a directive from general staff, but all kind of ideas are tried by the guys on the ground. Another instance of this practical russian tinkering spirit is the adaptation of the immense stocks of big aerial bombs FAB, originally meant for carpet bombings, to glide bombs. A basic frame in order to add couple wings and a GPS module. Damn simple, cost effective. One can also think of different kinds of photographic cameras, lakes and rivers vessels, cars and trucks, manufactured back in soviet times. Europeans and americans seem to be handicapped by a monolithic technocratic and financial mind: ie. weapons industry is first a stock exchange and shareholders affair, ad hoc tinkering outside R&D engineering offices is not accepted. Two technocratic apparatus have then to be put in motion, the German-like approach of full pyramidal engineering process from advanced design, thorough precise prototyping, etc, until it reaches production and real life , and the financial evaluation of rentability. Meanwhile, Russians empirically cut, solder, bolt and try, tweak, something not perfect, not ideal but that gets the job done and cost effective. Some ideas work well and are pushed up to engineering office for bettering.
Behold the future designs of tanks
I love the Tutle tank .....
Remember when one of the main advantages of the T-series tanks was their low silhouette?
This is basically just Crossout builds when the game first released 😂
Battering ram ( turtle tank) is for fortified enemy fortress to clear wall ( mines) and defense against enemy arrow ( fpv drone) Exactly like them, but modern one
? bring back roman empire
It's obviously a garden shed equipped with shovels
Oi look poor mans energy shield
Tank design will change as well as electronic warfare.
That is not a turtle tank 🤔 !? It is coffin tank 😂😂😂 !!!!
Ans so, in 2024 AD, Ukrainians use Roman road spikes and Russians use Roman mobile enclosed battering rams to fight each other. All while tanks shoot each other with fast metal arrows.
So they can only shoot forward with not a wide swing.
Reminds me of German WWI tank designs 😂.
How fitting, the orcs enclosing themselves in a pig shed 😂
this cannot be real... what reality we are living in?
soon its gonna have 2nd floor and maybe balcony
