- There are a significant number of different large calibre anti-materiel rifles in use in Ukraine. One of the largest is the Monomakh, a 14.5×114mm semi-automatic, box magazine-fed anti-materiel rifle from the Ukrainian company Snipex.

In the technical specifications for the development of this rifle, the military specified a minimum weight of 25 kg. (not maximum!). Minimum weight requirements are related to dampening the recoil phenomenon. If the weight is less, then there will be not “back pain”, but a fracture in the shoulder!
Ah yes, the "your back-pain is not service-related" class of weapon weight.
47 inch barrel and 55 lbs dry. Insane.
Not when you factor in that this thing fires a round with more energy than a 20mm. You need that mass to get something like reasonable recoil, it will probably still kick like a mule😂
The muzzle brake has a lot more to do with reducing recoil than the reciprocating barrel does. The barrel recoils backward primarily to cycle the bolt and operate the semi-automatic function of the rifle. That's why it wasn't cycling properly and going back into battery when the barrel bushing was loose....for some odd reason.
Mhmm, thanks for watching.
Kinda. You're right about the brake, but the reason the barrel reciprocates partway with the bolt is so that the chamber pressure has time to bleed off before the casing is ejected. It's called a "delayed blowback" design. I'm not sure if he's the inventor or not, but Browning was using the system in his shotguns in 1898.
Ah, finally. The Halo SRS-99.
True modern successors of the PTRS and PTRD rifles!
More like the Type X# chinese knock off, PTRS already evolved into KPV.
@@abdou.the.heretic KPV is a machine gun, not a precision/anti-material rifle
@@Shuulleecho and you are and anti-understanding person 🤓
@@Shuulleecho KPV (and tank KPVT) have a very good high-precision barrel, which has quite sniper accuracy. However, the implementation of everything else and the automatic firing mode completely neutralize this accuracy. For the prototypes of this rifle, the original barrel from the KPVT was taken, and new ones were made for the production ones.
The Alligator was bonkers enough. Semi auto makes the monomak mega bonkers. You’d give a BTR or BMP-1 crew a terrible day with these. Even a BMP-2 from the sides or back.
yeah because the BMP ain't got an autocannon on top - and, usually, plenty of angry russians inside
@@decespugliatorenucleare3780 It depends. BMP-1 has a low velocity cannon that fires rounds somewhat similar to the SPG-9. Semi auto with API rounds would definitely give them a bad day. You could be a decent distance away from it too and fire from cover and concealment.
It has to be 25 kg, otherwise the gun will hurt the shooter, so that part is a feature and not a bug.
Yeah, I suspect engineering wise it just wouldn't make sense for it to be much less, especially with moving parts.
@@TheArmourersBench The developers stated in an interview that a weight of 25 kg is a mandatory requirement of the customer (military). It is associated with the absorption of recoil energy. They fulfilled it and, in turn, tried not to exceed
Anyone else notice how the rifle with a damaged bushing was kicking cases out inconsistently? At first I assumed ammo issues, but depending on how hard the shooter yanks and how much a semi(?) working bushing helped or hindered things it's probably that; maybe it could cause a headspace issue and even possible case rupture
Same, looks like it has defaults in feedign mechanism.
Its size does seem to be very limiting but an interesting topic.
Can you make a video on the Volodar Obriyu rifle, that was used for that record 3800m sniper kill?
I have been thinking about it. But there isn't much information on it other than a Washington Post article that doesn't ask the right questions haha. I'd love to speak to the sniper!
damn thats a big rifle
A MONSTER of a rifle! 🤩
3/4 meter Picatinny rail. Could fit a lot of red dots on their.
So many dots.

@@TheArmourersBench Do you need a dot for your dot sire?
"the coolest gun you wouldn't want to operate" lol
One would think the manufacturer would make at least one professionally produced video.
The clips here make it seem not ready for prime time.
That said, I still want one!
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Im waiting for more improvised weapons like these frag sleeves for the rpg-7 or mortar rpgs
They basically built the Halo sniper rifle, badass
That reciprocating barrel seems to help quite a lot with felt recoil. How much mass do you think is moving? The failure to load in the training segment without sights seems to be dirty receiver or crappy ammo.

When your rifle is larger than you are tall, you know you have something that packs a serious punch. Wouldn't like to be in the vehicle that is targed by this beast.
You should look up the Anzio Ironworks 20-50 mag-fed bolt action rifle. They even make a suppressor for it.
Great Video, THX A.B. Have been subbed. 👊 😎 💣
Thank you and thanks for the sub! New video next weekend!
You can get as much as 6-8000 joules when firing two barrels of a side-by-side shotgun with Breneke.
Barret can provide as much as 12-20,000 joules with .50 BMG.
Snipex Monomath dwarves both with 32-35,000 joules depending on load.
They beat Brandon Herrera on the ak50 concept
This seems like a great way to keep your armorers busy and not much else
It’s an anti-materiel rifle dude. Nearly every military in the world uses them.
yeah but this one seem pretty useless, the 14,5 doesnt really give much advantage over a 12,7 except its much harder on the gun leading to it ripping itself apart and needing to be much heavier because of it which makes it hard to move and use. Get a Barrett or go all the way and make something like a Lathi
All the issues you’ve listed for the 14.5mm are even more so than the 20mm dude.
a weapon fitting of master chief
As UKR moves to more NATO standard calibers, it would be interesting to see if a 50 BMG variant would become available in the future.
A lot of Ukranian anti material rifles are 50bmg.
Or 12.7x108, I think the 14.5 was designed in recognition that those systems were not quite sufficient for certain applications.
Perhaps the West will develop an even higher calibre anti material rifle.
Modern optics perhaps make the full range of such a system more viable.
.50 BMG isn't as do-all as it used to be.
14.5 has been around almost as long and is a good deal more powerful and effective as an anti-material rifle or heavy MG round.
But...
This Monomakh might be great working from a prepared position and moved about via vehicle.
It's unwieldy nature, however, could be self-defeating.
What's the point of having a rifle that can sort out almost anything on the battlefield....if it almost takes two people and a pet monkey to lug it around and set it up??
This was sort of a problem with the old Soviet era PTRD.
And one reason why they usually were issued to two man "anti-tank" teams.
It's less "the 14.5 isn't a good choice" so much as "50BMG is a standard NATO cartridge that is common in allied inventories"
Or NATO adopting the 14.5, which has double or better the muzzle energy of .50bmg
@@markbecht1420No point in nato adopting it. Heavy and not that much more useful. These large antitank rifles are a relic of the past. Besides, if anything it would make more sense for nato to go back to the 15.2x114 which the Soviets copied to make the 14.5x114.
You're not going to walk off getting hit by that thing. I wonder how practical it is in comparison to a bolt action rifle? The bolt action is cheaper and simpler but can you shot faster with the self loader or does it have some other advantage, simpler to train on?
Rapid follow ups probably preferable for moving targets like vehicles I guess.
@@TheArmourersBench Thanks.
Is there any video or info about the G3 rifle?
Yep, armourersbench.com/2023/11/22/swedish-g3s-in-ukraine/
Not sure if its just me but it looks a little like the M82/M107? I mean it might just be the size or the fact most rifles that chonk tend to adopt similar fetures, kind of like how tons of rifles have evolved into a vagely AR or AK looking configuration, main thing that feels similar to me is the magazine deisgn
What’s the rear flap that covers the butt of the sniper for? Is it makeshift body armor? Been seeing lots of Ukraine troops running something similar.
Haha a lot of guys have them, I think it's just a seat pad rather than ballistic.

@@TheArmourersBench lol that's fun, more direct translation is pretty much "under ass-er", basically anything you can put under your bottom. When you'd go hunt in a tree stand or fish on the bank of a river you'd bring your підсрачник 🙂
Haha I guess Google translate is just too polite. Seems like useful kit!
The great great great great great grandfather of the SRS-99.
Large caliber rifles are not that difficult to make. But it would be a lot better to see some low recoil semiauto version of a rifle in 14.5mm. It will of course then be a lot more heavy. So that is likely the reason why its a bolt action.
Greetings,
Jeff
It's a semi auto Jeff. Thanks for watching.
Given the concussion of firing 14.5mm is a semi auto much faster than a bolt action? I imagine it might take a second to un-ring your bell for an accurate follow up shot anyway
There are videos of guys pre-invasion at the range running them pretty fast, no idea if they're at all accurate.
Makes a big difference if you are in an enclosed space too. Inside, the smaller 50 BMG can be nauseating.
Is it really a sniper rifle? Looks more like light artillery😂
MSBS video when? :)
Two little wheels would be nice then you could pull it .... something like small bicycle wheels.
I wonder where the inspiration for these rifles came from? A mystery I'm sure we will never know
halo
Suprised your brave enough to show your face around here, cat killer.
It's a successor of anti-tank rifles from WWII
the bubba barrett M107A1
In the first clip you can see the spent casing being ejected by the shooter still has to do a manual slide on the right side of the gun before firing the next round. Was there a jam of some sorts? A true semi automatic should not require any such actions.
I discuss that a little later in the video but I believe the barrel bushing has come loose, you can see it bounce around. So the barrel and receiver are out of alignment preventing it from cycling. Shouldn't be firing it really. Thanks for watching.
Could it be similar in operation to the PTRD-41?
The PTRD is a bolt-action, but it has the barrel and receiver recoil separately from the buttstock. This movement, and a steel plate ramp forces the bolt to open on recoil and eject the spent case.
It still requires a new round to be loaded and the bolt closed and locked manually.
cloud of dust to attract return fire from mortars and artillery, a rifle to be used only if it rains?
Ever heard of repositioning?
how does 14.5mm compare to 50bmg?
Considering standard "ball" ammo, it's a roughly 60-70% increase in muzzle energy.
@Killerpixel11 wow I thought it was roughly equivalent. I wonder what the ballistic coefficient is for hot marksman rounds
12.7mm vs 14.5mm.
'50 BMG is 12,7mm
Is 14.5mm still manufactured these days.
Yeah, but mostly for HMGs
Somewhere, they are getting match grade, brass cased ammo for both the 14.5X114 & 12.7X114. 🤠
@@donwyoming1936 Are they? Or is this just delinked MG stuff?

Would you please just say: over 2 METERS?
Or: 205 cms?

Why when you already know ;)
Probably 2-2.5MOA gun, and you have to make your own ammo from the bottom up, there is no accurate 14.5x114.

The ammo they use can't be good for accuracy.
If it's stuff from KPVs perhaps not

If you want a real longe range platform neck down a 50BMG to acceot the ultra long bullets of 375 Cheytac improved and 375/338 lap mag improved. Probably supersonic speeds up to 2500-600 + meters. Then you can just make custom barrels not different in outward dimensions from the factory 50bmg ones for any if the barrel quick change 50bmg bolt actions out there. AC international, Cadex defense, Ukrainian manufactures etc etc, and just swap the barrel in 2 minutes.
Check out the SS Lightning Bolts on the female snipers hand at 3:01 and shes with Azov . .. .
Yah it’s well known that Azov has neo-Nazis among its ranks, just as its well known multiple neo-Nazi organizations fight for Russia.
Doesn’t change the fact that Russia isn’t fighting to “de-nazify” Ukraine.
Great a gun so large that breaks as it is fired due to the way it’s trying to limit the recoil so I doesn’t break your face….
No idea why it has the failure. Might be indicative of issues with the platform, might not. Hard to tell with so little data and just one video.
That is a cartoonishly large weapon.
