Gen X here.. I would not go as far as to say "fear Gen x," I would tell you. Generally, we don't give a flip about anything, including catering to your feelings. We were the last of the merit generation. No tropies for the loser. Failure was how you learned. Actions carried consequences. Group chat was on a bycycle riding around the neighborhood with a gang of kids.

While it’s important to accept rejection and move on, saying that most people won’t like you or that there’s nothing you can actually do to find love and happiness is an extremely defeatist mindset. I think the better advice would be for him to learn to take rejection well, continue to improve himself in other ways and make himself more attractive, and keep trying with other women until he finds what he’s looking for. He’s also showing too much interest too soon which is probably part of the problem. There are men that genuinely are attractive to many women and can find the kind of relationship they want anytime they want though just by being attractive and knowing how to communicate. There are women and other gendered people that can do the same things. Acting like there aren’t general skills that can be acquired and applied in social interactions to find the people who want relationship with you is just inaccurate and again, an extremely defeatist mindset. If other people can do it, why can’t he? Right?

I always go by, It's a reason and not an excuse. I can feel sympathy for what someone's been through, and understand that them hurting others is a manifestation of their trauma, but I will at the same time acknowledge, that it is their decision to continue the cycle of abuse, and their responsibility to unpack the trauma to put an end to the cycle. Basically, anything they do to hurt someone else is on them, and they need to acknowledge it was wrong, and they need to do the work to get better.

I am among the oldest Millennials and I am much more like Gen X, my crew back in the day would go do the same things the older Gen X kids were doing. Just saying that some of us survived their trials, and gave the finger to "this is dangerous" teachers.

This man is lazy and it shows. He is definitely bloody privileged if he got bored while unemployed. Seriously though. When I was looking for a job, I was "working" 9am to 5 pm for five days, finding and applying for a minimum of 20 new and completely different vacancies per day. The longer I was at home, the harder it got, as I kept coming across ones I had applied for already. That was on top of cleaning a small apartment weekly. As for being a stay-at-home wife, it is also a full-time job. You get to replace the 9 to 5 of working, with the 24/7 of running a house. There is no excuse for everything on the endless list of chores not to be done. There will always be more chores to add to the endless list of chores, because the chores never end. If everything is dustless, spotless and fixed, then you have failed. That is not included fetching and carrying children; arranging playdates; taking them to tutors/doctors/therapist/etc; making sure they are eating, sleeping, bathing, brushing their teeth. Again, an endless list of requirements for raising children.
