Absolutely they could have. I’m going to assume the absolute _best_ of this man for a moment, say he really wanted to celebrate that win with his wife and kids; he went about this in the _worst_ way possible. Sending the kids out right before the finish line, while everyone is running as hard and as fast as they can with a motorcycle following alongside them; some of the runners may not have been paying the most attention to anything that wasn’t the finish line. Those kids could have very easily been mowed over by anyone trying to finish the race; hell, he could have hurt his wife or another runner along with his kids, especially if he’d lost his grip on them and they ran onto the track and in front of someone. This is one of the dumbest things he could have possibly done in this moment, and that’s barring the fact that all he had to do was walk about 20 feet over toward the finish line so as to not disrupt the race.
Not only that, he put both his wife and his kids in a terrible situation, where his wife had to pick between finishing the race and not hurting her kids feelings in that moment. Again, this is assuming the absolute best of him and that he wasn’t intentionally trying to sabotage her. This was still absolutely dumbfounding behavior on his part.

Oh that is SUCH a sore spot with me. So many married men hate when their serf escapes the house and has interests that don't center around making HIS life easier, and they do crap like this.
I vividly remember two separate incidences in my younger years. 1) I was preparing to take a small 3-day road trip with a married friend. We'd anticipated this for months. She'd prepared dinners in the freezer (so Hubby and Teen Boy wouldn't starve over the weekend). Two HOURS before the trip, she cancels, because Hubby started pouting and whining that he couldn't find something and didn't know how the microwave worked and he had laundry that needed doing and and and... 2) Another married friend sharing a hotel room with me at a sci-fi convention ditched me halfway through because Hubby called and demanded she come home at once because I dunno, he couldn't find the kitchen, or one of the kids asked him a question.
...And then they wonder why women see and experience stories like this and resolve never to let a man have that kind of hold over her.

Okay nobody's talking about this, but as someone who used to do long distance running in school. First of all this could have fucked up her Personal Record due to a loss of seconds. Second of all it obviously could have cost her the race. Third of all by the end of the race there's usually a mix of coasting and dropping all the energy you have left, so putting a kid in front of a runner at the last leg is like putting a kid in front of a moving train. They're running on momentum and all their remaining energy, she really got lucky she didn't injure her kids, same with the other runners.

Hell when the covid restrictions were a thing I barely managed to change course towards the alternate chute (passed someone and then had to go to the chute on the left isntead of right because the right had been used last) and I knew the system existed ahead of time PLUS had about a 10 second warning on the change (when I passed her).

I try not to ascribe evil intentions when stupidity can justify things. But at some point, stupidity stops being blameless and becomes evil in itself. If you're too dumb to understand how your actions are undermining your loved one's goals, in such an obviously clear way, then your stupidity is morally reprehensible.

When he should have thought, "gee, this is such a nice spot to watch the race... Why is no one else over here? There must be a reason, and it might involve safety of the runners or the safety of those watching... Maybe I shouldn't stand here with the kids. Also, if I send the kids out into the race if adult runners they might get trampled... So let's not do that. Also, she is the lead, so let's see her win, and then greet her after she crosses the finish line."

Even if this was done with the purest of intentions- if he just wanted to celebrate her accomplishments with the kids- he went about it in the worst way possible.

I wondered that too. There are usually a bunch of volunteers at the finish line to do crowd control, hand out medals, and herd finishers off to the post race snacks or medical tent. Every race I’ve ever run, spectators aren’t even allowed in front of the finish line. I’ve also been a finish line volunteer for several races, and we received specific instructions to keep people away from the home stretch.
The only exceptions I’ve seen are the historic races (1776, Marine historic half, and MCM) where service members will find runners like 100 yds out and run with them to the finish. But they only do it with the regular runners and not the elite groups.

I know the rules are different everywhere, but still...
If so...and he SOMEHOW expected her to pick up one or both kids and run with them across the line...he would have basically been telling her to forfeit the race, right as she was about to win...😬

My husband was an athlete and now a coach. And I honestly can't understand the mentality of #1 pushing your kids into oncoming runners potentially hurting them and/or someone else.
#2 why you'd want to possibly cause your wife to loose the race because she got 2 kids around her legs.
#3 why you want to upset your kids by saying "oh look its mummy, go give her a big hug, she'll be so happy to see you" for them them to basically get pushed aside.
He absolutely must know the time, effort and hard work that goes into nit just running a race like that but winning one. Yet for some reason at that final few steps to winning he wants to destroy her chances of winning somehow. She's not in the mindset to entertain kids, her mind is solely focused on the finish line. He needed to respect that.
And if he can't take the waiting at the side lines, the kids get bored, feels inadequate only being able to watch go do something else. My husband raced like super long races and no way with my ADHD can I just wait around. So I'd stay home, or take our kids to do something else. Then be back in time for the finish.

its because of the time and effort needed to win a race like this that he did this. she was putting all this effort and hard work into preparing for this race when she could have put that same effort and hard work into caring for him and the kids. its most likely that he is resentful of the fact that she's not 100% 24/7 all about being a wife and mom. as for the kids and the danger he put them in? i don't think he really cares. he has them right there in the road to begin with and then he pushes them into the road. that isn't a sign of a careful parent, but of a careless parent.
as for why he does this? well, if he resents his wife doing this the whole thing is a win-win situation for him. either she stops and hugs the kids and thus destroys her accomplishments and invalidates all the sacrifice she did to get this far or she ignores her kids and wins, thus giving him ammunition to call her a bad mom and hurt her and the kids. because again, he doesn't care for either her or their children, its all about him and his feelings.
plus, its possible that he is jealous that his wife can do this when its likely that he can not.

Keep in mind that Target specifically doesn't train their employees at all. Their idea of "training" is showing an anti-union video and showing you how to use the register for half an hour and then you're considered immediately ready to work. I've seen far too many people who seem incapable of thinking through even the simplest of problems, or predicting or noticing even the most obvious of consequences of their actions. There is often seemingly little to no benefit to themselves in failing to do that (so malice wouldn't seem to make sense).
I'm also autistic and (related or not) I used to be oblivious to way too much of what's happening around me in my youth. Although I see the world much more clearly and analytically now (even if I still miss many things other people would consider painfully obvious).
Incompetence isn't much of an excuse, and one can criticise someone for that all the same, but it would be counterproductive to assume malice if it isn't.
In any case, how did you even get to the conclusion of malice? "It would be painfully obvious to me, with how my brain works, therefore it was painfully obvious to them, therefore they knew that they were doing"? Can you see the problem there? Other people's brains simply don't work the same as yours. Do you see how hard is it for me to live with her? I take care of kids and the only important thing for her is winning this stupid competition. Again, he receives all the attention.
In any case he will have the reason to sting her (and trust me, he will use this opportunity multiple times) to make himself look better and to show people how difficult it is for "good" him to live with such a "bad" wife

I've been repeatedly sabotaged like that. It takes years to realize that yes, it is 100% deliberate, it's planned, it's intentional, it's abusive.

He's definitely reaching for an excuse to be able to accuse his wife of being a bad mother.

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he does specifically push the kids farther out as she approaches. It would have been a heartwarming moment if only it happened 30 ft away, on the other side of the finish line.

It’s not HIS race, he doesn’t care, he wants to trip her up and is willing to put his kids in danger - crazy

It could have been an oversight on the husband's part. "Hey kids let's greet your mum at the finish line, she'll love it!", but somehow missed where the finish line was. I hope it was a mistake, but going by his reaction, I can almost hear the argument afterwards. She was in her zone, reaching that finish line. It was completely thoughtless on his part. A few extra feet was all that was needed.

No, he knew exactly what he was doing. That finish line is not subtle, he couldn't miss that.

Some men (2 ex’s of mine included) simply cannot stand that their female partner might actually be successful in something, marathons, a career, and consciously or not will sabotage their partner. It is as if their partner’s success somehow makes them look bad or diminishes their own image of success. I see it a lot but can’t understand why.

@mo.ka.9661 obviously because you can manipulate them into doing whatever you want: the chores around the house, making food, having sex, caring for and raising the consequences of that sex, etc. men have done it before in the past. i’m not saying this particular man hates his wife, i don’t have enough information on the two of them, i’m just generalizing to answer your question.

This is the kind of situation which illustrates the old saying that "You just can't fix stupid" perfectly.
